I have made the mistake of assuming that more people would prefer fewer tools, but it never fails – almost as soon as this 9pc tool set starts selling out, the emails come in, with readers and visiting asking where they can buy one.
I can understand the appeal – with a set like this you get a lot of tools and an excellent “bang for the buck.” It’s a good starting point for casual users who have a limited budget and want the most tools their money can buy.
Here’s what it comes with:
- DCD771 Drill/Driver (Compare Price)
- DCF885 Impact Driver (Compare Price)
- DCS381 Reciprocating Saw
- DCS393 Circular Saw
- DCS355 Brushless Oscillating Multi-Tool (Compare Price)

I started with a Milwaukee 16 tool setup akin to this – and I’ve bought a few “starter kits” since: I can upgrade tools and pass the others I no longer need on.

Your second HD link seems to link to plumbing traps – not the tool set.
To my way of thinking the 9 piece set includes 3 items (flashlight, radio and grinder) that might be less appealing for a DIY homeowner. The Acme set also has a flashlight and grinder – and the last set is missing a circular saw – but otherwise seems like a decent balance. Combo sets always seem to bundle a literal mixed bag – but do seem to offer value.

Thanks! I don’t know what’s going on there – it used to go directly to the product, and now I see different search results depending on the browser?
Signed in, I see the Atomic tool bundles. Signed out, I now see plumbing traps too.
As far as I can tell, they have been adding new links and removing the tool listing page for whatever reason. I guess it’s better now than on Black Friday.

any of those kits with the dcd771 would turn me off. the other tools are pretty decent even if the are old school brushed. that drill is kind of a turd. big, clunky, outdated and low power. even less than the atomic line.
