Dewalt DW716XPS 12-inch Compound Miter Saw

The Dewalt DW716XPS 12″ dual bevel compound miter saw dropped in price this morning on Amazon, to $269.

  • 12″ blade size
  • 3800 RPM
  • 6-1/2″ vertical baseboard cutting capacity
  • 10″ horizontal baseboard cutting capacity
  • 6-5/8″ nested crown molding cutting capacity
  • Can cut 2×8 in one pass at 90° (or 2×10 with back fence)
  • Weighs 44 lbs
  • Built-in XPS cross-cut LED shadow cut-line indicator system
  • Miter range of 0-50° left and right
  • Bevel range of 0-48° left and right

I’ve been watching this miter saw for a while, flip-flopping over whether my workshop is destined to have one as a permanent fixture. I’m still actively working on reviews of other miter saws, but I think there’s a high likelihood that this is the one I’ll get. (That’s how I saw the price drop; my shopping cart alerted me to the lower price when I checked it as part of my morning routine.)

Its current price of $269 is lower than it has been, although it’s not quite as low as its winter holiday shopping season price of $249. It’s uncertain as to whether we’ll see the same Black Friday pricing for Father’s Day. I don’t think we will, and that $269 is the best price we’ll see on the saw right now, but there’s no guarantee of my being right or wrong.

The version of this saw without the XPS light, DW716, is currently $10 more. The popular value-priced DWS779 is currently $355 at Amazon, and the flagship model DWS780 is $499.

Price: $269 (as of the time of this posting)

Crap. I wasn’t really wanting to get a new miter right now – but this is the model I think I want. I think I talked myself into either a 12 inch non slider or a 10 inch slider.

leaning towards the non-slider. I just don’t need to cut 2×12’s often. or 10 inch baseboards.

Thanks – I might decide between this or a new carseat. (joke)

If not now, then it might be on sale again (maybe at better pricing, but possibly not) in November.

I like the idea of a non-slider because it can handle most of my needs, and would be easier to build a rear enclosure for, for dust collection.

    For $349 ( $80 more ) at Lowes – the DWS779 looks like a good buy too:

Yeah, I’ll be getting a 779 for Father’s Day, assuming they have any left. I’m hoping for a good sale, but if not, I’ll break out the ubiquitous 10%-off coupon and have it; it’s a fair price.

I bought this one a year ago. You can buy the add-on led light for less than $50 handle and all and it’s very simple to install. I highly recommend the light. This has been a fantastic saw for me. Put a good blade on it and some zero-clearance backboard and your’e all set.

What about the DHS716 on sale for $299 at HD? Granted it doesn’t come with batteries, but it has the corded adapter so you still get a corded saw, with a light. And if you aren’t already on flexvolt this could be a first step. Buy some cheap batteries in 5 months during the holidays and now you’re portable.

That’s a thought I had the last time that went on sale. I might do it because the price is attractive. supposedly it has a better motor but that’s hard to say from the specs.

I really like mine, and I did just that about a year ago when I could stack a coupon code with a sale over at Northern Tool. Doesnt look like they even carry the cordless miter boxes anymore though.

Interestingly, it seems to run slightly smoother on batteries than on the AC adapter, but both sources are totally useable. Both seem just as powerful as my older corded model it replaced.

The LED light showing the blade shadow is SO nice and easy to used, especially on compound miters.

Acme has flexvolt batteries on sale right now, so I’m at $550 after tax for the DHS716 with 9.0 batteries. The 9.0s were only $50 more than the 6.0s so that was an easy choice.

Now I just need a charger. Singles are usually cheap on eBay. Or maybe it’s time to upgrade my old chargers to the new 4 port?

I have the four port charger/power pack best decision I’ve ever made.

Is this the same one that Lowe’s will have on sale for 199 for Father’s Day or is it different??

usually that’s the model without the LED shadow line light.

admittedly I also sort of hope there’s a craftsman model of this with a lower price that comes out.

sort of drive the prices down.
