This is by no means a unique deal, we’ve seen it over and over through the years. For instance, the last time we saw the DW735X sell for this low was an Amazon deal way back in February 2020. It’s also not the lowest price – that was $475 back in 2016, but $500 is still a really good deal for this Dewalt planer package.
Given how fast the Milwaukee Packout deal sold out last night, I wouldn’t hesitate if you are planning to buy. If you miss it, be patient, because odds are we’ll see this deal someplace else this season.

I have a review sample of the stand, and it’s pretty solid.
Store-bought or DIY, this planer definitely needs a stand or mobile base of some kind, it’s not heavy (in my opinion) to be a “pick up and move around” kind of tool.

Ok that’s what I was wondering since depot rarely has crazy discounts on items. I just figured if I could make a small wood stand for it with casters. It would be cost of a prebuilt unit vs my time. So if the dewalt stand wasn’t worth it then I would just wait for maybe a discount on the 735x w /o stand. Thanks for the input. Better to if it won’t tip easily vs making a wider one also.

Not heavy, or too heavy? I have this planer and I love it but I dread moving this thing. Something like 90lbs and bulky though the handles make it a bit more manageable. I couldn’t find one with the stand when I bought mine and I have limited space for a stationary tool of this size so I picked up the folding dewalt work table at the orange store. Works well enough for my needs and I can fold table out of the way when planer is on the shelf.

I have the stand and I’d say it’s worth it unless you have something similar already. Building something as good as it would cost almost as much in time and materials.

Anyone have any comparisons to the Rikon 25-130H. I know it says helical cutterhead. Figure I might want to compare shop a tad. Even though the dewalt has super high praises without me looking hard for reviews

I have the other, slightly less expensive and usually slightly lower rated, Dewalt planer and really love the wood that comes out of it.
Question for you all: does anyone use one of these regularly indoors? The two issues I’ve got that lead to me using it outdoors are difficulties with placement – planing an 8′ board needs ~20 feet, realistically, and I don’t have that kind of shop space to give a planer, or even any easy way to put enough on wheels so I could rearrange things.
The other issue is that the amount of wood waste that these things can produce is simply prodigious. As a question that looks like a statement, I can’t imagine any homeowner/hobbyist dust control that could really deal with that blizzard of dust and chips – am I wrong? 🙂

The 735 at least has a fan assist for ejecting chips. You don’t need a dust collector, you just need a hose to route the chips somewhere. I’ve seen people just put a hose into a trash can, but you probably want to use some sort of flow through collection bag to cut down on dust.

Well (big smile), the back patio does great for me! I have it on a Bosch gravity-rise stand, which works great. I just get my leaf blower and disperse the mess when I’m done.

This is part of the reason I bought the ✈️ that Stuart posted about – but yeah – it launches really hard and I don’t see why just directing the output into a trash can wouldn’t work.
The stand is almost mandatory for this IMO – as I need to be able to roll it out of the garage or at least to the door to load and unload boards.
There are some Jet jointer/planer combo machines that are similar in price – but I don’t see any excitement over them – wonder why.

You’re correct about the blizzard of chips coming out of it. My solution is a 55 gal Rubbermaid Brute trash bin with a Toro leaf collector bag I had laying around. Too that I attached a 4-foot section of 4″ hose and also have the dollie on the base of the container to move it around. The only waste is a little that comes out under the cutter knives.
