Wtf Dewalt for discontinuing the 10” saws… great big FU for those that have invested in high quality 10” blades and get them sharpened.

Other brands had to modify their compact 10″ table saws as well. From what I learned, it basically has to do with updated safety guidelines.

the change was made to comply with recent IEC regulations requiring increased table-to-blade size ratios.

Basically, a table saw needs to have a larger work surface in order to be engineered with a 10″ saw blade, or it won’t pass safety approval.

If a saw doesn’t meet the safety requirements it cannot be used on jobsites that follow OSHA guidelines.

The Power-Loss Reset Switch is also a new safety feature.

The 10″ DWE7491 table saw is still available – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F2CGXGG/?tag=toolguyd-20

I bought the 10” model shortly before it was discontinued (from one of your Black Friday posts). I see why they did it – there is hardly any space on the table before you hit the blade.

Dude, seriously. I bought the 10” Dewalt out of necessity after getting laid off and losing my wood shop. The clearance is a sick joke. Good luck putting any safety equipment in there like a simple feather board.

So…if you have a 10″ (DW745) saw, is it safer to put a 8-1/4 in. blade on it?

No – that saw and its safety guards are designed around a 10″ blade.

But, you can ask Dewalt customer service for official recommendations in case their guidance would differ or if they have retrofitting accessories.

I don’t know if this is a sale price or not, but for another ten bucks this looks like a much better deal given the included stand. It looks a lot more robust and has the benefit of wheels.
