One of the other new FlexVolt tools Dewalt introduced at their 2017 Media Event was a 60V dual-handle paddle mixer, DCD240. They designed this cordless mixer for mixing thinset, mortar, and concrete, but there’s no reason you couldn’t use it to mix drywall mud or other lighter materials.
The mixer uses the 60V output of a FlexVolt battery to drive a brushless motor up to 1600 MWO. Keep in mind this is not the same measure of Watts that we talked about in the Dewalt Rear-Handled Framing Saw post, but Dewalt’s own measure of power.

The motor spins the chuck from 250 to 700 RPM, and has a soft-start feature to make the mixer easier to control. The chuck is a 5/8″ keyed variety that is large enough for most common paddle sizes.
The mixer has two outrigger-style rubber over-molded handles. Both the variable speed dial and the dual-action trigger are on the right handle.
Above, you can see the battery compartment has room for the 9Ah FlexVolt battery. A spring-loaded cover seals the battery and terminals, protecting them from any splashback.

Inside the cover, Dewalt has provided a handy-dandy chart that tells you which number on the dial corresponds to which mixing speed.
The FlexVolt 60V Max Dual Handle Paddle Mixer will be available as a bare tool for $400, or as a kit with two 9Ah FlexVolt batteries (DB609), a charger (DCB118), and mixing paddle for $700.
Available: Jan 2018
Price: $400
First thoughts
Here’s a short demonstration of the Dual Handle Paddle Mixer from the 2017 Dewalt Experience media event. I believe that she’s mixing mortar.
Both Stuart and I were able to try the mixer. His comment in the event wrap-up post was: “it’s incredibly powerful while still being manageable to use. The controls were especially convenient to access.” I’d definitely agree.
I can’t remember whether I tried mixing mortar or concrete, but the mixer was smooth and the motor showed no signs of being strained even at the highest speed. Even with the widely spaced outrigger handles, you could feel that there was a huge amount of torque their demos weren’t tapping into.
Dewalt’s introduction of this tool might have you wondering if this mixer is competition for Milwaukee’s mud mixer. While the Milwaukee mixer says that it can mix concrete and mortar, it is called a “mud” mixer, so it’s primarily aimed at drywall guys. Also they choose a more portable and compact design than Dewalt’s paddle mixer.

I’d have to see that mix concrete – not that I don’t think it can. Just I want to see it.
Would be a great rental tool for the DIY guy.
anywho few questions – I notice that they give you a paddle but it looks round – not hex drive. and it has a nifty chuck that needs a key.
1) can you use any other paddles – does it specify a limit (1/2 in shank, etc)
2) does it have a nifty spot to keep your chuck key?
Otherwise looks nice I know I could use one but only about 1-2 times per year.

I have a cement mixer . Weighs 300 lbs.

yeah my thought there was more like my next job. putting down a fence – I want to concrete the posts – now yes I can borrow a real mixer.
but this would be near perfect in that I’m not using alot – I can mix there at the hole and be more potable with my bucket(s).
and cordless power – I can be in the back 40 without issue. which I will be.
I wouldn’t buy one for me – but I’d rent one if the price was right.

I was agreeing with u . The size and weight of the old cast iron mixers make them stationary units or trailer units . Mine is mounted on a pallet . I would also try this for mixing post holes cement rite in the hole

When I did my fence and deck 20 years ago I just put the dry cement in the hole and added water. Still working beautifully and in buffalo we sure get our share of freezing that can mess them up if not right.

Get rapid set (15 min) 30mpa concrete you don’t need to bracce your fence asyou can just hild the post in place for 2minutes and then it stays there. You also don’t need to mix the concrete. Just pour water in the hole before each bag and give it a poke around as per the instructions. Getting a mixer and bracing is unnessecary now days

I purchased a Milwaukee mud mixer and used it to mix some concrete a week or so ago. The unit has no problem or lack of power for doing this, but it does have some annoying quirks when using it in a lateral motion under load, or when free spinning the paddle to shake off excess material.
The issue is that the mixer sets up a resonance feed back that makes it feel like it is grinding it’s way through the material when moving laterally, instead of a smooth mixing feel and is intermittent in application. Sometimes it is smooth and others not. Also when free spinning and flipping the trigger on and off quickly to full speed, it will set up a real bad stutter on the lowest settings, and feel like it is grinding internally on higher rpm, as if the electronic controls are having difficulty regulating speed control and fighting the motor magnets.
The issue was brought to my attention by another user of the tool who had noticed the free spin issue, so this would seem to not be an isolated instance.
Yes, the Milwaukee mud mixer can be used to mix mortar and concrete, but it has other issues limiting it at the moment.

Not sure how accurate this is on April preorder date, I want to get one too asap…

I want to try it with a 10″ Strikemaster Lazer ice auger bit in 24″ of ice on a frozen lake…….

Did Dewalt kill this DCD240 Paddle Mixer?
Was it ever released?
Skip
I just got one from amazon UK. It took about 2 weeks to get to Pennsylvania. It’s a beast. Converting it to an ice auger.
Bill
I guess it was never released in the US. I knew a guy from Canada a few years back and he would tell all about ice fishing and how he would build a little fishing shack around the ice hole so he could fish in relative comfort. Good idea on using the Dewalt Paddle Mixer as an ice auger, we just do have much call for ice augers here in south Florida. 🙂
Bill
Rather “don’t have much call……”
