Dewalt Magnetic ToughCase Bit & Blade Storage

Dewalt recently released a new magnetic ToughCase with a wide open storage compartment that can hold larger drill bits, saw blades, and accessories. These new ToughCases will initially be sold as part of two bit assortments – a 15-piece fastening set, and a 20-piece Impact Ready drilling and driving set.

I’m a huge fan of Dewalt tool cases, drill bit cases, and their standalone compartmentalized ToughCase, so I have high expectations for this new magnetic accessory case. The new ToughCase has two magnets embedded in its lid and two hooks built into its back to give users a number of ways to keep the case immediately available while working.

As you can see from the above photo, the magnetic ToughCase is slenderly shaped to fit into pockets and tool pouches, but is large enough to hold long drill bits, step bits, and even small hole saws.

These ToughCases have just been released, but you can already find them for sale at Lowes bundled with a 15-pc fastening kit for about $20.

Edit: We have learned that the magnetic ToughCase will be available in several configurations: by itself with an MSRP of $12.97, bundled with a 15-piece fastening set (DWMTC15) with MSRP of $19.97, and as part of a 20-pc Impact Ready drilling/driving (DWMTCIR20) set with an MSRP of $34.97.

I saw those at the store. I didn’t know those things in the lid were magnets. I thought they were just for decoration.

Are you referring to the magnetic bar, or the 2 round silver discs with torx fasteners?

The magnets are the two circular parts secured with the Torx fasteners. That black bar is a rubber pad that helps prevent the ToughCase from sliding once it’s attached to a ferrous surface.

Magnetic attraction is weakest in perpendicular directions, but frictional forces are maximized. Thus, the magnets keep the case attached to a surface, and the rubber strip [effectively] prevents it from slipping.

I am a die hard Dewalt power user for almost 25 plus years. I currently don’t have this Tough Case and I know it would be more than handy to keep all my bits in order and in a safe place. It would also compliment my current DeWalt tool set as I am in the elements all day and night and this is the perfect item for the job. So, yes I voted for you too for that nice tool chest, so it would be great for the return favor! Thanks Partner!

Does the lid have a rubber seal to keep the water out?

I opened it in the store, but I can’t remember if there was a seal or not

There’s no rubber seal, but there is a thin hard plastic lip lining parts of the lid. In other words, while not as well sealed as a Pelican Case or Otterbox, this ToughCase should surely keep out dust and debris. It is not designed to be submerged or used in environments where there is a risk of it being partially or entirely submerged.
