Dewalt’s new magnetic ToughCase is designed to be a highly portable storage case for larger drill bits, saw blades, and other bulky accessories that can be difficult to stow away.
Right away, I must tell you that I absolutely love Dewalt’s various tool and accessory storage cases. They’re tough, well-built, and usually have extremely secure clasps and latches. But does this new ToughCase measure up to my expectations of it?

Dewalt Magnetic ToughCase Overview
While perfect for holding smaller bits and blades, Dewalt’s compartmentalized ToughCase is large, bulky, and cannot hold larger bits. This new magnetic ToughCase compensates for all of those flaws.
Measuring 3 inches wide, 7 inches in length, and nearly 2 inches deep, the magnetic ToughCase provides ample storage space and still manages to easily fit into most pockets, tool pouches, and tool boxes. With its strong magnets and hanging hooks, the ToughCase can be placed so that it’s always in reach during a job.
Construction, Design, & Latch
The case is built rock-solid, and features a strong and secure latch. The case’s lid only opens up to 90°, but I could see no downside to this. While the case is not air-tight, there is a recessed channel and raised lip in the lid that mate together to seal out dust and debris.

When Dewalt says their magnets are strong, they’re not kidding! The magnets both have rubber linings which work with a separate rubber strip to prevent the case from sliding down a steel surface. This features works fairly well, even when only one magnet and half the strip is in contact with the surface.
Hooks (think panels, not pirates)
The built-in hooks on the back of the case are a bit larger than anticipated (which is a good thing), and offers another way to keep the case at arm’s length during a job.
Conclusion & Recommendation
I was able to load this ToughCase with tools that never would have fit in any other small storage case – a hole saw, holding utility knife, large spade drills, 5/8″ silver & demming drill bit, and a few smaller bits. The case is built like a tank, and its magnets and hooks support it very securely.
The magnetic ToughCase will be available separately for $12.97, bundled with a 15-piece fastening set (DWMTC15) at $19.97, or as part of a 20-pc Impact Ready drilling/driving set (DWMTCIR20) at $34.97.
$13 may seem like a lot to pay for a small accessory case, but I think that it’s worth it for the quality and utility that the case offers. Many people will probably appreciate the added value of the bit and case sets.
I definitely highly recommend Dewalt’s Magnetic ToughCase. It feels indestructable, almost like a Hulkified Pelican Case or Otterbox, with the added convenience of multiple hands-free support options.
Thank you to Dewalt for providing the magnetic ToughCase featured in this review!

I’d like to pick up a couple of these to keep with some of my stationary machines to keep the small accessories at hand. Ideal for my wood shaper and the extra collars, arbors and collets that currently reside in a metal index card box. The magnets would keep the boxes attached to the machine cabinets, very handy.

Isn’t the whole idea of the lid only opening up to 90° so that it can still be held onto the side of a toolbox etc while you look at the contents? In that orientation it acts like a little shelf to allow easy access to the bits and blades but it won’t flop down and spill everything on the floor.
DeWalt always impresses me with their designs. I have several of their various bit cases and they are all built extremely well. Sometimes it is the little things that really make a difference. But why do I always feel the need to add to my collection even when I don’t really “need” more??? Is there something about black and yellow color schemes which makes me want to buy them?
