This Dewalt 130-piece MaxFit drill and screwdriver bit set, DWACMF130SET, is a new Home Depot Special Buy for $30. The set stuffs all of the accessories into removable bit holders and boxes that clip into the large ToughCase+ organizer.
The set includes the following drilling and driving bits:

This isn’t the first high part count drilling and driving bit set that Dewalt has bunded with a large ToughCase organizer. Last year they had a 160 piece set for $30, and while it’s currently priced at $40, it’s out of stock with no indication as to if or when it will be available again. Even though there are fewer components, this 130pc set has a 14 pc drill index rather than spade bits, which might be more versatile for some users.
I was unable to find the previous set last year in any Home Depot around my area, whereas there are tons of these new sets on display at every Home Depot I visit. Evidently this isn’t the case everywhere though, as Stuart says that this Special Buy appears to have sold out at the stores in his area.
Stuart’s Note: I had one in my hands last week, but put it back. I changed my mind and now cannot find it at any of the Home Depot stores I’ve been to. Luckily, it’s now available for free shipping. Naturally, I now have one on the way.
I don’t think the exciting thing about this set is the included bits though, it’s the large ToughCase+ itself. The organizer can serve as an intermediary between Dewalt TSTAK and Craftman Versastack tool box systems, and ToughCase+ accessory boxes that are available from Dewalt, Irwin, and Craftsman. This also enables you to attach medium ToughCase+ boxes on top of the TSTAK.
There haven’t been many options when it comes to large ToughCase+ bit sets, and this 130pc set looks to offer the best bang for your dollar of all the sets available right now. Lowe’s has a Dewalt 100pc impact bit set sold in this case for $45, and while Craftsman also sells a version, it comes filled with pretty much the lowest quality bits you can buy.

I think the very large number of 1″ insert bits pads the “tool count” of this set into a fairly absurd number. It sounds like they’re trying to market purely on having the highest possible tool count, a bit like how some mechanics sets throw in cheapo allen wrenches or hex bits to pad the count.
But that said it look like it’s great value for money. Even if you ignore the 87 1″ tips you still get an excellent case with lots of organizing potential, including the three smaller containers that fit inside it. You get brad point drills, normal drills, a good assortment of hex bits…if you need what’s in that set it’s great value. I think I paid $12 for that set of brad point drills alone last year when I needed them on a job.
It would be a great starter set for someone getting into DIY too, it’s got you covered for just about anything around the house from doing some cabinetry work to driving deck screws out back.

I bought 2 of these Dewalt sets last year, and 1 more now. The case and selection make it worth it (for me), even if I don’t quite need all of the 1″ bits.
Some of these sets really require unconventional thinking. The new version of Dewalt’s right angle adapter + bit set bundle, for instance, is automatically a good deal if you need or want that right angle adapter. Even if you use just 1 other part of the 36pc bit set, it’s worth it. If you toss the bits and keep the case, it’s worth it. The reason is because the right angle adapter sells for $20 by itself. There’s a better one, priced at $25, but the yellow one is decent enough.

If you can’t use the ToughCase, the bit selection might still be useful or a good bargain for individual needs, but there are also other promo accessory sets that might be a better fit.

Move the long brad points from Bay D to Bay B and you can move them up almost 2″, then move the bed drill bits into upper half of Bay D (shift them each one slot to the right). Put the extension with the 3″ power bits.
That adds enough room for another of the tiny cases and then you can pull a devider out of a DeWalt medium case to use any excess space for loose bits

I’m all in on toughcase with a minimal Tstak supplement for my accessory organization perfection. Yet for the life of me I cannot find a purpose for this thing that doesn’t just fill it with the overflow from other indexes. My original thought was blade storage, but you can’t fit 12″ recip blades in it without destroying some bay dividers. I used it for a short while as my per-project hardware case to load up in the bolt bin, but it’s not really rugged enough for several pounds of loose weight. The bottom is Tstak format, so there’s no attaching cases to the bottom of a Tstak, and putting it on top eliminates the Tstak carry hande. Currently it sits upright, on end, with my portaband blades, and is holding all my unused toughcase inserts and Tstak drawer slats. I don’t regret getting it, it’s still handy to physically connect several specific medium and small cases on top of a Tstak or two, to outfit a helper or jump in another rig for a quick task elsewhere. I feel like it’s the unexpected weak link in the system regarding efficiency and integration, despite it being the one necessary component for tool and accessory storage compatibility. Maybe this year we’ll see that random Craftsman variant box top plate adapter hit versastak or Tstak, and I can stop whining about the merely 98% perfect setup I suffer with lol If anyone’s got some tailored use for this thing, or creative applications, I’d much appreciate any suggestions on my quest to find this thing’s purposeš

Get one of the medium cases with deviders. The deviders stick up past the lower section grid and can create a channel that keeps sawsal blades in place. I have one of these set up as an everything accessories kit, so jigsaw, OMT, sawzall, Razer knife, bits. I have a bay full of short blades and about 4 that float over the top of the bin

There’s an idea. I’ve got a bunch of those dividers, and I use a bunch of the mediums and smalls in custom setups. My sawzall blades and jigsaw blades are in a medium right now, with one of those dividers splitting the jigsaw half between metal up top and wood/gp below, and I used that bridge piece the large came with over the sawzall blades on the other bay to stop them from bouncing all over. Got two 50pc wiha terminator sets in another medium plus some 3″ sq2’s and ph2 (electrician special), another medium with 3 sets of Spyder Mach blue drill bits, a medium with wihas 6″ sae nut drivers and an 8 set of stubbies, and a final medium with the equivalent nutdriver selections in metric. I found a good deal on the Tstak “frame” that holds 5 small cases and 4 of the mini single bay things, minis are all extra 1″ and 2″ common sizes, and the smalls are assortments of 3/8 impact sockets, loose steel drills, a wood set, and a bunch of spare nut drivers.

I’ve been frustrated with DeWalt not selling the individual components of their storage systems as well. It seems very strange to me that they launch a line of modular tool storage hardware, yet choose not to sell many parts of it. I contacted DeWalt via their website contact link and asked how I could buy dividers or those black plastic bit holders which fit into the cases. A week later I get a reply which didn’t even answer my question.
I wrote back, another week goes by, and I get a reply they don’t sell them individually.
What is the purpose of offering a modular storage solution if you can’t actually buy the modular parts for it? Idiotic marketing.

A year later this/similar item shrank in size, to “just” 120 pieces, with most noticeable difference in brad-point / regular drill bits being replaced by a smaller selection of hex-shanked ones. But if one’s looking primarily for a ToughCase+ organizer, $29.88 is a rather good price still. These sets are readily available in my local (NM) stores now.
