They also have a Hammer Drill & Impact Kit with 2 Powerstacks like the Atomic one at HD.
https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-DW-20V-COMBO-KIT-W-POWERSTACK/5012899185
I would be down with the DCF840 as I like the form factor of it over the new Atomic Impact, but including the DCD778 seems an odd choice, given its age.

Keep hoping there will be a Powerstack combo with the new cut off tool.

Big Richard posted links to a kit like that available in Europe in another topic recently so it’s possible that we’ll get that in the US too.
I’m wondering what’s going on with that Cut Off Tool. Last week Acme Tool was listing the bare tool as “in stock” and would ship on the 31st of January. Home Depot’s website had a listing for them but they were marked currently unavailable. Now Home Depot has taken their web listing down, you can no longer find DCS438B on their site. Acme has revised their shipping status from Jan 31 to April 15. I would go out and buy one of these right now if only someone had the stock, as I’ve got a job that it would be very handy for!
Franck B.
Yeah, I’ve been waiting for that cutoff tool and also the 7″ angle grinder that I think was announced at the same time (still using a Bosch corded one).
I’ve considered buying things in the UK and Europe that we don’t get here and bringing them back, but luckily I haven’t put my wife through that yet. The prices with conversion and tax are pretty high though (UK apparently doesn’t do the VAT refund anymore, and why should they?).

FAO has the same deal, priced at $179 instead of $199. https://www.factoryauthorizedoutlet.com/products/dewalt-dcbp034-2-20v-max-powerstack-impact-resistant-compact-batteries-2-pk
Big Richard
Doug is right. Promo code CHAT5 gets you 5% off ($8.95), which covers the shipping cost.

Thanks
Nothing with brushless grinder?
Stuart
Not that I’ve seen so far.

help me out here please. i understand the implications of the new technology.
what i don’t get is the hype. i like using my conventional 2 ah and 3 ah batteries and avoid using the larger ones unless i need the longer run times or capacity for larger heavier tools.
how or what does the new 1.7 ah battery offer that the 2 and 3 ah batteries don’t other than being slightly lighter and or smaller.
there must be something i am missing and i am not ashamed to admit it.
Stuart
Compared to a 2Ah battery, PowerStack is smaller and lighter, and more capable when paired with medium-duty tools that might not be a good fit for traditional compact 5-cell battery.
It’s also supposed to have longer lifespan (charge-discharge cycles).
I like the size, and know that it can drive tools that I might normally power with a 5Ah battery, even for shorter task.
So, I see it as good for tasks where I might need 3-5Ah power but not necessarily the runtime.
These batteries are pricey. Personally, If I’m buying a new tool, I’d rather get more of these batteries than more of the same sizes I already have.
skfarmer
well then………here is my request.
can you pull the specs, dimensions and weights of the most commonly available dewalt 20v max batteries for a comparsion. i have 2 and 3 ah compact batteries and the larger 4 and up ah batteries for comparison but don’ have any knowledge of the new batteries and their weight. also how do they compare in size to the current 12v dewalt battery offerings
i think that myself and others would be very interested to see how they stack up…………..
i know, bad pun.
Corey
Kind of an odd request to make on the internet of all places… Where all that information is literally capable of being found in less time than you and I probably spent typing these comments. I’m still under two minutes, and I found size comparison images between the previous sentence and this one.
skfarmer
odd?
why?
i thought it would be a good topic for toolguyd to respond to. people ask him to compare things and make observations all of the time. then we can have a discussion. it is why we come to this site. if we didn’t ask him questions there wouldn’t be much point of coming here. there also wouldn’t be much point in having this site and it would not be very successful if we all just “looked” everything up on the internet.

I can work on new comparison images soon if this isn’t clear enough.
skfarmer
thinks for the link with the photo. i still think it would be interesting for you to do an article on this.

A powerstack battery can release more current than a traditional battery of the same capacity. So if you use it on a grinder or a circular saw for instance, you’ll have the same power that if you were using a 5ah battery minus the weight and the runtime. It’s really nice if you don’t need the runtime. You don’t have to use a big heavy battery.
MM
This makes the Powerstack batteries ideal for tools that would get used for auto repair, like compact impact wrenches, compact recip saws, or the upcoming 3″ multi-cutter tool. The tool doesn’t get used very long at a time so runtime isn’t much of a concern. However, the small size is huge if you have to reach your arm into a tight cramped space to reach a suspension bolt or to cut off a rusty muffler clamp. And likewise the ability to provide high current is important when you need power to loosen that stubborn bolt. That same combination of light weight and high power would be excellent for impact drivers used in tight spaces, or pruning with a compact recip saw.
Gordon
I agree with that in theory, but I still don’t think the powerstack has the required output, yet. I can imagine there will be a higher capacity, and thus higher output version in the future.
I don’t have a 5.0ah to compare to, but project farm showed that the powerstack can match the 5.0ah in some instances of burst type work. But it just doesn’t have the runtime to hold that power. I think in an automotive setting you would constantly be charging the pack(s) so you can maximize output.
MM
I don’t own one of those tools (yet), but based on what I’m seeing online, if the Powerstack batt can approximate the performance of the old double-row 5ah pack (short term, of course) that’s a big deal, even if it’s just “burst” work. Now it might not be perfect, but it’s still a lot better than what is currently available. I have heard from Dewalt reps that larger size flexvolts are in the pipe so things will only improve from this point.
rob
You are missing that the regular compact battery packs experience a voltage drop and cannot output as much power as a conventional battery pack. Enough so that you will notice a power loss on even a 300 inch lb drill. Meanwhile, the power stack almost puts out as much power as a 5ah battery.
Kingsley
I’m after an impact wrench, so this would be idea… but I’m not in the USA until April. Who knows, maybe DeWalt will bring out a bigger powerstack by then. 5ah would be ace
TimL
Maybe have it shipped to a friend?

Off Topic sale: Toolbarn has METABO 36 volt specials. Buy certain tool kits get a free multi volt battery. Buy certain bare tools, get a free starter kit, which consists of a multi volt battery & charger. Looks like the 36v router is not in this deal. But there is the 36v(120ac) shop bare tool included I think. Vac can run on 1 or 2 batteries, or ac. They seem to brag about the dc suction of this vac. Not a hepa vac. The plunge router 2 1/4 hp multi volt has a free battery deal on Acme I think. Check for yourself.
Plain grainy
Buy a METABO 36v hammer drill or impact kit at toolbarn, Then buy a METABO 36v plunge router at Acme. With the free battery deals you will have 5 multi volt batteries, a nice way to enter a new battery platform.
Plain grainy
The 36v vac is no longer listed as a select tool for the battery deal.

This Lowe’s two battery deal seems better than Homedepot battery, and entry level charger deal. Since I don’t have any Dewalt 20V tools, what charger should I get? Is the DCB1112 the best since battery charger they have currently?
Stuart
In my opinion, if you’re getting the PowerStack battery, the 12A charger might be overkill. You can use it with the PowerStack battery, but you probably won’t get as many speed benefits as you would with higher capacity batteries.
The DCB118 might save you a little money. Or DCB1106.
Or consider one of the 20V Max tool kits that are still promo-priced, such as the 5″ random orbit sander DCW210D1.
Amish Mike
Does anyone have a similar power stack deal with the brushless leaf blower?
LiverBoy
I’ll be waiting patiently for the massive Father’s Day markdowns on DeWalt kits that hopefully will bundle PS batteries. The sales now are ok but I think we’ll be much better in June.
Jon
Lowes has a free 12v starter kit (5ah + 3ah) with purchase of a bare tool promotion. I saw it on display walking through the other day, with a line of serial numbers underneath. The promotion doesn’t appear online, and I can’t find what bare tools it applies to. Anyone have more details on this promotion?
Big Richard
It seemed to be most, if not all, Xtreme bare tools especially the newer ones (recip, band saw, impact wrenches, etc) as well as a couple 12v/20v tools (area light and bluetooth speaker). I plan on getting at least couple, it’s a solid deal.
Ron
The only choice that gives me is the impact
Stuart
Maybe try changing your zip code? I see all of the same options as still available for online ordering.
Big Richard
It might not be that, they are probably on the app or mobile site. When I first saw this deal, it was on the app, and the impact was automatically added with no other choices.
@Ron, try a desktop website if you can.
Stuart
Ah – thanks!
Looking at Desktop and Mobile versions of Lowe’s site, you have to select the free gift first. If you click “add to cart,” they auto-select the impact driver as the free gift selection for you.
I’m sorry – I tested that it worked, but I know see that it is a lot clearer in a desktop browser than in mobile.
SaturnFire
Was able to get the jigsaw deal. (i would have preferred the barrel version, but getting this one with 2 batteries was a way better deal than Home Depot).
However, It was weird online Lowes Site would not let me order from the Lowes next to my house, but the one 10 miles away had them in stock. and let me complete the order.
plus 5% off with Lowes credit card

Can I get the BOGO deal then return the batteries? I purchased the deal once already today with circ saw. I would like to get another tool but I don’t really want more batteries. On the receipt it only list 199.00 bogo deal, so I don’t really know the return value of the batteries or do I have to return the whole set?
Stuart
It’s unclear.
The last time I saw a Lowe’s bundle, they had a clause that all items must be returned together.
H.
Got the oscillating tool yesterday with the pack, XR brushless price tag was 145!
Thanks for sharing this!
MM
I picked up this deal today. I got the 1/4 sheet sander. The timing worked out very well since I’ve been needing a couple more smaller 20V max batts, and I also found myself needing a sander that can get into corners unlike my random orbit. I’ve been holding off on the powerstacks waiting for a deal, and this seemed like a good opportunity.
