Dewalt has come out with a couple of new wet/dry shop vacuums.
Shown here is the new Dewalt DXV09P 9 gallon 5 peak HP vac, with built-in tank drain, high performance cartridge filter, 10′ power cord, on-board accessory storage, 1-7/8″ x 7′ hose, and 90 CFM airflow rating.

At the top, the large handle doubles as a cord-wrap, and there’s what looks to be a hose hold-down strap. The caster wheels have a wide stance, which should help to minimize tip-over risks.
Here’s a look at the rear. Hmm – I like the look of what seems to be a canvas accessory storage bag. Hopefully it’s removable or easy to clean.
Overall, the design looks well thought out. Does the US market need another brand of wet/dry shop vacuums? Apparently so. I wonder if we’ll see these in Craftsman branding soon.
It comes with 2 extension wands, a floor nozzle, utility nozzle, and crevice nozzle.

I’m intrigued. I’ve been eying new shop vacs for a while now since i want a larger one. I have a 5 gallon job and it’s a bit small at times. But it still works just dandily.
Matt
Get a large one. You won’t regret it. My Craftsman 20gal one is a beast and the large capacity really helps with larger demo projects.

I’m still using a very quiet (though not Fein quiet) big rear Big Wheel DeWalt that just won’t quit. Maybe bought it locally from a pro vendor in the early 2000’s?
What will this way cheaper (like $300 cheaper!) version have in the way of a dB rating?
Matt
The large wheels on the 16 gal one look quite useful, particularly for outdoor or on really rough concrete floors. It’s just that these vacs are quite pricey – almost double the Craftsman ones. I have a number (2.5,4,20) of them and they are excellent workhorses. Is there a HEPA filter included to justify the price?
Stuart
I did t see mention of a HEPA filter, but maybe there will be an upgraded filter option.
Michael Roach
yes, add on HEPA are available
Tobias
Since these are DeWalt branded are the specifically made to attach to the back of the DeWalt Table Saws and Miter Saws?
Tobias
Sorry hit send to early, attach to the dust ports on both the table saw and Miter Saw, which would make it intriguing to me from that perspective. Thanks!
Stuart
Good question. You might need an adapter. I’ll ask, as soon as the vacs are officially announced.
Matt
Every 2.5″ vac will attach to pretty much every jobsite table saw and most miter saws. So – yes they are!
Stuart
In the product specs, the smaller vac is said to have a 1-7/8″ hose.

Dewalt miter saw ports are not standard. They are ridiculous.
alex
Dewalt uses a proprietary dust port to lock a vacuum hose on their tools (miter saw, sanders, …). You can buy an adapter to make any shop vac compatible with the system DEWALT DWV9000 Universal Connector”. They sell as well adapters to make any non-Dewalt tools compatible with this connector.
The problem is nowhere on their website it is explained. You have to figure out how it works all by yourself. But once you get it, it’s not a bad system.
Stuart
Not necessarily. I’ve connected my Festool 2-1/2″ hose to their roller stand table saw.
alex
Yeah, the table saw doesn’t have the proprietary port and I think it’s the only tool that doesn’t. Probably because they wanted to make it bigger than their standard port.
Nathan
Is it safe to assume these also use the new hepa filter bags the other “shop vacs” use?
Also I like the idea of the hose strap if it works well. Might glue something on to mine to do similar.

I wish that the review sites would test the clearly fake horsepower ratings, or refuse to review them.
There is no possible way for either of these vac to have 5 or 6.5 hp. Calling it “peak horsepower” is a useless statistic (that’s how much hp it makes as the motor welds itself together of catches fire).
2 things that matter to me, as a shop vac user: suction & noise.
Stuart
I treat “peak HP” as an in-brand comparative reference.
Which Shop Vac is more powerful than another Shop Vac? Which Ridgid compared to another Ridgid? And so forth.
Dillon Corr
At 110-120V a single HP motor pulls around 10A (round numbers)…. I never understood how companies get away with saying their “6 HP” vac will work on a regular outlet…. (60A draw from 15-20A circuit).
Roger
Still waiting for Cordless Brushless 20V…
JohnD
I vote for a quiet (<~80db) 60V portable vacuum
Nathan
Ideally all vacuums would be rated by Pressure and Flow Rate measurements at some location. I’d prefer they all be at the nozzle – but that’s a touch more difficult when you factor a vac with a beater brush – there I would probably want to see the measurement at the inlet to the bag/canister.
In the case of a shopvac device – I would want to see it at the end of the standard 8ft tube.

Looking for my first shop vac, for small to medium cleanup jobs and to use on my new Dewalt table and miter saw. There are too many vac options out there in my opinion but this seems like a nice one with good cord management and attachment storage, though I’m not impressed that a Dewalt vac doesn’t work with Dewalt saws without an adapter as discussed above. Just another money maker if that’s truly the case.
Nathan
If you get anything smaller than say a 10gal shop vac you will have that problem with nearly every brand.
The dewalt table saw and mitre saw both use a standard 2.5 inch diameter coupling – and just about any larger shop vac has that style hose. I’m looking really hard at the ridgid 16 gallon deal at home depot right now because the price and accessory set is really good. Happens to also come with a dust collector bag for it. The 2.5 inch hose would plug right into the bottom collector of my Dewalt 7491 table saw.
Joe
Unless your a diehard Dewalt guy, why buy this when there are better options
Yoshivan
I want a stick type like Makita one.
I’ve already bought that and love it.

Its almost impossible to get info on hose couplings for a DEWALT DXV09P since a single 7 foot hose is mostly useless. There website is a joke. Don’t waste your time chatting or calling (Someone other than DeWalt does not know). I will go back to the Dustless Brand where parts are clearly spelled out, HEPA, wall and ceiling sanders, all attachments, couplings, Bags, Filetrs & 20′ Long Hoses – even Double suctions Y etc. This DeWalt website of products is a joke.
