Dewalt Tough System Tool Cases and L-Cart Carrier

A little over two months ago I previewed Dewalt’s new Tough System Tool Cases. Although I only spent a few minutes looking them over, I was very, very impressed with the design and construction of the tool boxes.

Since the preview, I have been regularly checking to see if any retailers were stocking the cases yet. It’s been a long wait, but it looks like Amazon is due to receive a large shipment, and will carry the entire Tough System lineup. The current ETA is 3-5 weeks, but this might change.

Purchase Dewalt Tough System via Amazon (individual product links below)

DEWALT DWST08204 Extra Large Tough System Case

Dewalt Tough System Extra Large CaseDewalt’s extra large Tough System case is spacious enough to hold power tool combo kits. It also comes with removable vertical compartments (dividers) that create convenient hand tool storage should you need it.

DEWALT DWST08210 Tough System L-Cart Carrier

Dewalt Tough System Case L-Cart CarrierThe L-Cart Carrier is a compact metal carrier which has repositionable folding brackets that can be adjusted to accommodate different Tough Case configurations. It comes with 3 pairs of brackets, and if I recall correctly, you can purchase additional brackets separately if you want to use the L-Cart to transport more than three cases at a time.

Here are a few sample case-carrying configurations that make full use of the entire height of the cart:

  • 1 small, 1 large, 1 extra-large
  • 1 small, 2 large
  • 5 small
  • 3 small, 1 extra-large
  • 3 small, 1 large
  • 3 large
  • 2 extra-large

Unless the L-Cart is fully loaded, you can also use its flat-bottom shelf to transport construction materials to and from jobsites. The L-Cart has a maximum load capacity of 260 lbs, and also features a central locking mechanism to secure Tough System cases to its frame.

Purchase DEWALT Tough System L-Cart Carrier (~$190, and does not come with any cases)

John, sorry, but you’ll have to check with a reseller, we don’t sell these or any other products.

Cleidson, lo siento, pero no puedes comprar el Tough System aqui.

For those of you who are interested primarily in the “HIGHLY WATER RESISTANT” & “PRESSURE SEALED” qualities….IT FAILED, MISERABLY!!

There’s a product defect that occurred during the molding process, and poor design QA “quality assurance”. The raised lip on my “LARGE” box has a profound “dip” in it. It’s on both sides of the lower half, and it’s found directly above the side handles. If you run your thumb across them, you’ll feel the dip. It’s even more dramatic when you sight down the length of the raised edge, from front to read…on both left, and right side of the box. When the lid is closed, the lip at that low point, will not compress the yellow plastic gasket on the upper lid.

How did I test it? I took a piece of writing paper, about an 1″ in width, and a few inches long, and placed it across the raised lip seal on the lower half of the box, directly about the side handles, so that part of the paper is hanging out, and the remainder, hanging inside…………. closed the lid, and secured the metal clasps. Pulled the paper out, with absolutely no effort/no resistance, which proves that the raised lip was NOT contacting the upper yellow seal. Perform that same routine anywhere else on the box, and you cannot remove the paper without giving it a good hard pull……meaning that the seal is doing it’s job.

So much being water resistant, and pressure sealed. Shame on DeWalt!! Other than those two highly touted qualities…… it’s still a good tote box. Just don’t expect to keep the contents dry in wet conditions. Of course, now it’s a bit hard to swallow the price, since it’s now in a different class.
