Over at Home Depot, they have a new Dewalt DWAMF160 drilling and driving bit set, featuring the elusive large-sized ToughCase organizer.
The Dewalt 160pc accessory set features MaxFit screwdriver bits, a couple of brad point drill bits, a couple of spade drill bits, and some adapters.

This isn’t much of an assortment, instead featuring bulk packs of Phillips, Torx, square, and slotted screwdriver bits in their onw compact organizers.

I went to 3 different Home Depot stores in the past 2 days, and only one of those stores had these Dewalt bit set and case bundles. They had one open, on top of two closed boxes.
Home Depot is selling them for $30 each. You can’t order it for shipping (yet? – check back), but can order up to 2 for in-store pickup.

The screwdriver bits are said to be impact-rated.
This looks to be a decent value for what you get – a large power tool accessory organizer that you can use with other Dewalt accessory set inserts, and refill packs of insert and power bits in what looks to be the most popular sizes.
I’m sorry, I can’t find any breakdown of what you actually get with this set, but the images should give you a good idea.

Yeah, that’s probably gonna be me. I’m the guy that bought the $20 Lowes 4 pack of bit sets last year on Black Friday just to get the 4 Tough Cases and bit holders within them for $5 each. I tossed all the cheap bits and have all my good bits in Tough Cases now. I’m up to 7 + 1 spare. I also was checking my Lowes almost every week for that medium Tough Case until they stocked it to get my hands on it. I really like these things.

So my question – are the bits as impossible to remove from the carrier as the Milwaukee are from their little red cases? I have to keep a pair of pliers nearby to extract the bits!

Dewalt’s bit holders went from awful to remove the bits from in the old cases to fantastic in the new Tough Cases like this one.

I do love the MaxFIT line from DeWALT, but not in this configuration of just… throwing everything in there… I would, indeed, buy this for the containers. I think this is where DeWALT is losing ground to other brands. They’re doing with bits what Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft do with excess software on their devices.
We buy the products for what they can do, and bring them home only to take hours taking out all the stuff we don’t want or need, simply to be able to use it the way WE want to. In Technology it’s called Bloatware. Can we safely call it Bloatsumables in the Tool industry? I know it’s not a proper word, but… It’s shorter than the explanation.
We’d buy more DeWALT product if it didn’t contain so much in the way of Bloatsumables. From the first set of the old ToughSystem Bit Containers, I’ve always wanted more of the bit holders, and fewer of the bits themselves. But they move on so quickly from design to design, kit to kit, that I don’t even get to contact the Service Center for the individual inserts. I would LOVE to be able to customize my bit containers.
Can you imagine the kind of impulse-buy streaks we could have, if there was just a DeWALT Build-A-Kit aisle? Bits at the end, but you start by a quick browse of what you can build with, then grab the kit box, decide what you want in it with the bits you’re going to buy (and how many), then counting it up and grabbing the inserts in the middle. Everything with a little Barcode/QR Code on one end, you reach the end of the aisle, hand the attendant your parts, it gets tallied up, and any bulk bonuses or discounts get applied to the price. That price gets put on a sticker, your kit goes in a bag, and the sticker, with barcode for the checkout, goes on the bag. You do all the assembly at home. Think a little bit like a Bulk Store, or a Deli Counter… but with Bits and Containers.
Would be good for ALL of the brands to have their own aisle like that. DeWALT really NEEDS it, but I find other brands do their bit sales better than DeWALT does. Doesn’t mean they wouldn’t also benefit from these kinds of customization aisles. And if you go down one aisle, and want to mix-and-match… Nothing is TRULY stopping you from getting your kit bag from one aisle, then going down another aisle and picking up just bits from another brand. Hex shafts all hold the same right? So the inserts that you are most comfortable with, you’re only limited to the box that fits those inserts. The BITS you can just grab from any brand you prefer. The STORE always profits, and shouldn’t care. Though, the brand discounts might be lower if you are mixing and matching across brands.
Still… We need this kind of aisle for AT LEAST 4 of the Brand Families. DeWALT, Milwaukee, Makita, and Bosch/Diablo/Dremel. Wiha, Wera, PB Swiss… Name a brand that makes blades or bits, all you need them to do is sell a bulk pack, and it’ll all work great!
Sorry… Rambling… It’s a random idea, I know something this common-sense won’t go over well with many people, ESPECIALLY retailers and tool manufacturers. That would mean the CUSTOMER gets what they want… Can’t have THAT, can we?

Sorry Kirk… I didn’t mean to get your hopes up, I just had a bit of a brain fart and forgot what DeWALT called their bit boxes and cases for a while… I believe it’s ToughBox or something to that effect. They change its design so often I have no clue what its product name is.
Though… in my theoretical Deli-Counter style buying system, I see no reason why there wouldn’t be ToughSystem and TSTAK boxes at the start, where you’re picking your container and inserts. In fact there’s no reason to think you’d only be buying bits. I’m sure it would be quite lucrative to sell their Blades that way too. Assuming, of course, we figured out a bit-box type solution for Circular Saw Blades as well as all the rest.

Anyone love the humor of manufacturers always putting these stickers on their product telling consumers of “the value” and then pricing it like 90% below that? I see it all the time. Dumb.

When I was young they used to fill out (to get the part # count up) cheap tool sets with lots of allen wrenches (hex keys), drill bits and hacksaw blades. Usually all were of dubious quality.
In this kit – the brad point and spade bits may not have equivalent counterparts in the Dewalt line-up. They plus other components may be made especially for sale as part of the kit and perhaps are of lesser quality than what might expect from a Dewalt product that is sold separately.

I’d like to know the same thing. Lowes supposed has this same case I. Craftsman red but I would prefer Dewalt yellow to go with my Dewalt Tstak cases.

The craftsman cases are not the same quality as the Dewalt. I have both and the Dewalt looks and feels better. My craftsman box is wearing and breaking in places that the dewalt is not, and they are always connected.

i am a dewalt guy and that is the most worthless assortment i have seen from them yet. well worthless may be a stretch but the only things in there that interest me are the spade bits and the small container of 2 inch bits.
i don’t buy the impact rated part either. show me any other dewalt kit that contains natural metal colored bits. they are always black coated or colored. i think that is pretty much an industry standard.

Only getting this for the case, I’ll strip the inserts out of the other cases I have, but really the bulk bit holders are completely unneeded.

I suspect that Phillips #2 might be the most widely sold single bit.
I also suspect the they get damaged in use fairly often – and that some folks keep using damaged ones beyond their useful life. Hardened drywall screws and just a wee bit of camout can bugger-up a bit.
We’d buy bits like PH#2 in bulk – and encourage the crews to toss ones as soon as they noted damage.
