Dewalt has expanded their ToughSystem tool box system with a new dual port charger, model DWST08050.
The Dewalt DWST08050 charger features 2x 20V Max battery ports, storage space for spare batteries or supplies, and also 2x USB charging ports.
It has an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance.

The charger features a half-width ToughSystem 2.0 tool box profile, and can be latched on top of Dewalt’s latest generation of tool boxes and accessories.
It has a large carrying handle that folds down, allowing for ToughSystem 2.0 organizers to be latch on top.

The charging ports are built into the lid, with a lid-stay supporting the open lid.
This is a simultaneous charger, as opposed to sequential.
Dewalt says that the charger can charge, store, and transport select Dewalt 20V Max and FlexVolt batteries. From the images, it looks like the charger should be compatible with all batteries except perhaps the FlexVolt 15Ah battery.

The ToughSystem 2.0 charger can be attached to Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes.

There’s plenty of storage space as well, with room for up to 12 Dewalt 20V Max and FlexVolt batteries, depending on size, not including any connected to the two charging ports.
As an aside, I spy a Dewalt ToughSystem tape measure with LED light and built-in rechargeable battery!
The Dewalt DWST08050 charger has two USB charging ports, (1) USB-A and (1) USB-C. One of the charging ports is internal, and the other is external.
Charging can be done with the lid closed, thanks to active cooling via a built-in fan. The fan provides airflow that helps to prevent overheating.

Discussion
This is a ToughSystem 2.0-compatible dual port 20V Max and FlexVolt charger, IP55-rated tool box that can hold up to 12 batteries not including those being charged, and dual port USB charger.
Plus, it has active cooling so that you can charge batteries with the lid closed.
From what I can tell so far, there are lots of “pros,” with few “cons,” aside from the price.
One might say “I can attach Dewalt chargers to an off-the-shelf ToughSystem tool box for less money, and that’s absolutely true. With this new charger, the fact that you can recharge batteries with the lid closed – at least with reduced risk of overheating – is a big selling point.
Simultaneous charging is expected at this price point, but the USB ports is a nice touch.
Questions that Need to be Answered
What is the 20V Max battery charging rate?
What are the USB charging rates/amperages?
How does AC power enter the charger, via 3-prong extension cord, or barrel jack?
Nathan
wow do we think alike. my questions – what’s the power cord situation and does it detach and is there a cord winder or such.
What’s the charge rate and is that open or closed and does it matter, I assume not.
I wonder if the 15AH big bat isn’t shown or allowed becasue 2 of them on the lid at once is too much weight? Almost seems like there is space for it since I think that might be the 12AH shown in the first pic. (might be wrong I don’t own one).
I like the basic ideas – needs to of course offer USB C PD up to 250W (joking) and it looks like they were smart enough to include the charging indicator lights visible with lid up or lid down.
Again alot to like – might even be enough that a mostly DIY only guy like me would buy one anyway.
Nathan
Nevermind in that top pick is 2 of the 9AH flexvolts. but it might hold the 12.
Big Richard
9Ah and 12Ah are actually the same size, so if it can hold two 9Ah, it can certainly hold two 12Ah. The 15Ah hogs, that I’m not so sure about….
Mark J
There are more details at this site below, but it appears to be standard 3 prong AC cord with charging indicator and carrying handle on the lid. Charging rate is says to be 4A/ea x2 for each bay.

…. Charger with Dual Battery Ports, USB, ***Storag***
Stuart
Thanks! *fixed*
Big Richard
To answer your questions,:
– Charging rate is 4A per port (dual stage like the DCB1106 and DCB1112)
– USB-A output is 2A
– USB-C output is 3A
– The power cord looks to be built in to the back of the unit, but may be removeable
Big Richard
My only wish is that they would make a slightly cheaper non-ToughSystem version. I like the idea of a charger box to store/transport batteries, but don’t want to pay the ~$100 premium for it being ToughSystem compatible.
And as an aside, I thought Toolguyd already had an article for the new ToughSeries LED tape measure, but I was mistaken and that was the Milwaukee I was thinking of. If you want more info on it model number is DWHT35625S.
Stuart
A search for the LED tape measures only turned up a different blog with no indication as to where they’re sourcing their info from.
I can’t draw from reddit, YouTube, anonymous tips via social media messaging, or other means.
Sometimes new tools pop up very briefly at retail sites and are quickly taken down. I can’t draw from that either – it often causes nothing but headaches.
Big Richard
Oh you absolutely cannot believe EVERYTHING you see on the youtube, instagram, reddit, etc., no argument there. But having trusted sources outside of official press releases is not the worst thing.
Are these photos not official DeWalt photos? So does that not corroborate its existence? I can understand not jumping the gun after one pic shows up on your instagram feed, but once you see it in official material you can sorta connect the dots and draw from that. Obviously we don’t have all the details, but a good preview/teaser always peaks people’s interest.
Stuart
I don’t know who runs that site or where they get their images or info from.
That means that, for ToolGuyd purposes, they are NOT a trusted source.
An example of a trusted source would be a social media influencer who shares images taken at a trade show.
I see and receive a LOT of rumors, info, tips, and images, and many turn out to be products that aren’t launching for a long time, products whose details could change, products that never launched, or – at worst – leaks in violation of NDAs.
There’s a grey area where I can make judgement calls on a case by case basis for when information and images are clearly public.
For instance, I have seen credible images of an unreleased cordless belt sander. However, there’s no trusted source, and so that’s not something I can post about yet. One retailer has a listing up, but without images, useful specs, or info. That doesn’t meet my requirements for a trusted source either.
Let’s say I post about that belt sander. How many questions might be asked about it via comment, DM, or email? How many questions will I be able to answer? How many questions do you think I will be able to get the brand to answer?
once you see it in official material you can sorta connect the dots and draw from that.
That’s exactly what led to huge problems with a brand 10 years ago, leading me to create sourcing policies and standards.
Big Richard
Completely understand, and sorry I was not suggesting you consider ToolLaunch a trusted source, I was speaking in general terms.
Since you mention the belt sander, just as an fyi I did receive confirmation from two separate DeWalt sources that it is a go. And additionally, just last week its product page was added to their official ServiceNet website, complete with linked manual – https://www.toolservicenet.com/dewalt/en//Dewalt/WOODWORKING/BELT-SANDERS//p/DCW220B
I’ll try to get more info on the tape measure.

I figured this was full size based on the top pic but it’s awesome they were able to squeeze it into one half. This and the M12 light are some of the more thoughtful new products in both of these lineups vs. just the basic here’s a light or charger.
Would be nice if the fan could activate via battery power to keep them cool. I wonder how hot this would get if the stack was outside in the summer with the sun on it being black
Steve
Not a bad idea – when I saw this, I thought it might be a radio/charger/storage. That to me makes even more sense. I’m a Milwaukee guy myself, but don’t like a separate radio and charger. Put them both into one and some storage if you like – but that’s just me…
Jared
If I ignore the price, it looks awesome! Very convenient way to store batteries and have a nice charger system all at once.
Some dividers might be nice so you can separate charged/discharged batteries, but it looks like it’s designed to accommodate plywood DIY dividers.
So this is ONLY compatible with Toughsystem 2.0 then? That’s kind of a bummer. I don’t know that my 1.0 boxes are designed to accommodate half-size boxes.
Robert
I wonder if the internal fan has a removable filter.
JoeM
I wonder what took them so long to make a dedicated Battery Charger box. I was thinking of getting a TSTAK of some sort, and modifying it so that it’d do this exact thing. In fact the reason I don’t have any TSTAK or storage options done already, is that I’m having trouble isolating how many of each box I might need for my tools and consumables. Hence, I’m having trouble figuring out what I need for a charging/storage box as well.
I do wonder though… Why the favouritism toward the Tough System? TSTAK might be smaller or lighter, but it has the diversity required to customize what you need… If you can manage to figure out the arrangement, of course. I swear, on that, my brain goes blank.
And, yes… I am quite aware that ToughSystem 2.0 is kind of like a hybrid between Tough System and TSTAK now. But, space being a premium, TSTAK saves space. That’s a stupid reason, but I’m more fond of systems suiting the worker, rather than a company favouring a specific system that may not be right for everyone.
Bob
Only IP55 rated but it charges when closed up. I would prefer IP 65 for my expensive batteries but understand the need for power ventilation.
Surprising the charger is only 4amp/hr charging. The old dcb104 four port simultaneous fast charger is 8amp per port. I guess the USB ports take up some capacity? You would think for the price point they could program some logic into the control board to limit charging the batteries if USBs are plugged in.
I already built my own out of a 2.0 large size box with a power strip running multiple dcb118 fast chargers, usb-c wall worts, and storage for a few extension cords for pass though outlets to run the table saw radio. Some space for extra batteries too. I never got around to finding a bulkhead connection that I liked enough and I have concerns about heat build up closed so I have to charge with the box open. I just crack it open a bit with a spacer. It’s honestly a little bulky on its own but it lives on my tough system 1.0 dolly so it’s not so bad.
I think this new form factor/size is better for most folks.
I wouldn’t mind a couple of those half size just plain boxes.
Overall looks like a win for DeWalt.
Jason
I’m no electrician but I don’t think it could put out 8 amps per port. Most household plugs and breakers are only rated for 15 amp draws
Bob
It is indeed 8amp DC charging per port BUT there is a trick: It’s a switched mode power supply not a linear power supply. SMPS literally switch on and off rapidly. They are less expensive to build, very efficient which leads to reduced heat and light weight.
Matt+S
8amp output at 20v, so 160watts. Your household 15 amp breaker / plus are 120v, and can supply 1800watts. All of this is nominal, but you get the idea. Plenty of headroom.
MM
This is correct.
Kirk
Switch one charger out for the dcb1112 12 amp charger, the fan always runs in it as soon as you put a battery on and charges 9ah and 12’s fast
Kev Dunn
The best thing about it is the batteries can be charged with the lid down. If you work on big sites batteries can often get stolen when charging or picked up by someone thinking its there ones. This feature massively reduces that.
MoogleMan3
This had my attention until I saw that it doesn’t charge their 12v batteries…
Plain+grainy
Someone probably mentioned this already. But if you have two items side by side at the top. You won’t be able to open the box cover. You are going to need to remove the neighboring box to open charger lid. That’s the way it looks to me anyway!
MFC
So I have my Portable power station sitting on top my Drawer box and I can hold 20+ batteries and don’t have to unstack anything, and then I have a portable generator to run random things off of it.
If they had made it so that it was a full width box, had a drawer for batteries and the batteries plugged in from one side so that you could charge and get to batteries without removing the box from the stack, then it would check all my boxes. Add a drawer lock and a hatch for the charging batteries that can be locked and you’ve got a winner.
#Drawersforever!
Nathan
I think it’s more portable in this format and since it has to be plugged in then consider that you’d wheel off your truck/van – roll into the site take the box off near a plug grab a battery or 2 – wheel over to where you need to be.
I think it makes alot of sense. I mean another option full size box full of batteries and a 2 port charge – might be rather heavy.
Nathan
you know I wonder if there will be an update to the 4 battery charger/power supply. That might be time.
SamR
I like it! Hopefully, Milwaukee follows the lead!!
trevor
Was exactly my thought when I saw this. A packout version of this would be an instant buy for me.
David White
Your $219 price seems to be incorrect it lists for $400 probably sell for $369
Stuart
At the time of this posting, 2 out of 3 retailers had it priced at $219, 1 out of 3 had it for $369 with a $400 list price crossed out.
Home Depot took down their listing at least temporarily. Tool Nut still has it for preorder at $219.
If $219 was incorrect, Tool Nut wouldn’t still be accepting preorders at that price.
A lot of potential users might balk at $219; $369 would make it incredibly hard to sell.
Ryan+H
YES! Exactly what I need. Even better, my Home Depot near me actually had Tough System 2.0 boxes in stock and on the floor. I like the extra toughness over the TSTAK, which tends to get beat up on rocky ground.
If they added another same-sized box that was a cooler with a powered slot to keep a coffee mug warm, that would be a nice edition that is different from Milwaukees, and would be useful for packing a lunch and coffee for the jobsite.
Ryan
I could swallow $219 if it was packaged with a battery or a little cheaper on sale price. If the Acme $369 is accurate, way out of my price range. If it truly can’t charge 12v, it is worthless for me at any price.
One spot to charge and hold my batteries would be convenient on the job site. It would suck to forget it somewhere like I sometimes do now. Instead of being out a charger and one battery, I could potentially lose all of them. Needs a stobe light and buzzer if you walk too far away.
JJP
I agree, that was my first thought. Leaving probably well over $1000 of batteries somewhere would ruin my day. This would definitely be a great place to store one of those Bluetooth or better yet GPS trackers.

While I like to think of DeWalt as a tool-innovator, they still miss the subtle marks.
Why no Qi charger on the top outside lid? They even show a phone with cord to the back, and it resting on top…why not also do without if you forget your cord? Or a sub onsite needs to charge their phone and lost cord? Most recent phones (last 4 years) have the ability to charge this way. Samsung, Apple, can recharge lying on an induction charger. I keep one in my garage, so I can stream music to my sound system and its resting on a Qi charger pad. If I get a call, either I can set to speaker phone or pickup without worry of cord issues.
Just a thought. I mean, if possible, I’d tap in with a cord and epoxy one underneath.
Bob
I agree not charging 12v batteries is a miss. I suppose if you really wanted to you could buy the USB charger and use that to juice up your 12v batteries. Kind of an expensive work around and it’s slow.
Also I don’t get why tough system 2.0 did away with the locking lug on the back of the boxes that integrated with the metal dolly? Flip a lever, clip on a pad lock and use a cable lock around something heavy and no one can steal your stuff.
The 1.0 with dolly has the added advantage of being able to slide boxes out mid tower without completely disassembling the whole thing. And you could use the two wheel dolly for moving around super heavy stuff.
I wonder if the new form factor would allow for retrofitting of those metal locking tabs?
James Eppich
I have a small bag for just batteries and a charger or 2. Can’t lock it up. And it’s always a tangled mess. I was all in till I saw “half sized”. This one of my biggest pet peave with DeWalt, they have a “system” but won’t stick to it. Like what would the tools be like if there were 3 different battery styles that were not compatible? It would be crap. You would probably buy a tool system that had just 1 battery style or was compatible. Flex volt I can justify because those are a step up heavy duty tools with backwards compatibility. But then we have the tools boxes and it’s just a mess. Tough system, t-stak, versastack, the bit cases that are tough system but only lock to themselves, individual tool boxes that don’t stack with anything, and now this new box that only stacks with tough system 2.0. I guess if you are really successful and every second counts, you are gonna just junk your old boxes and buy what makes that happen.
blocky
I cut my charger power cords down to 6-8″ and resolder them to the circuit boards. Leaves enough to plug them in on site and not enough to get tangled in a bag.
1day@atime
That’s why I made my own Dewalt multi charger out of an old Hitachi drill case. I removed the lid and cut out all the dividers for bits and whatnot and mounted 5 chargers to it using screws and put a hole in the middle of the box for the wires. I then took each individual cord and cut the plugs off and separated the hots and the neutrals and soldered them all together to their respective pig tail coming from a larger gage two wire plug that I cut off from a tool that I didn’t use anymore. Everything is shrink tubed accordingly to form a single cord. I even put a clamp bushing in the middle of the box to hold the wires from straining. It works great. I don’t know about the particular electrical values nor do I care. I do know that the multi charger that I constructed can charge five batteries simultaneously in very timely manner. Smaller the amphour, the lesser the time to charge. I constructed this charger prior to any such device being available from Dewalt and it has served me well. If I need a USB c charger, I go to my truck to charge my phone which shouldn’t need to be charged while I’m on the job anyway because I’m there to work. Not to use my phone. Besides, you should have enough sense to charge your phone and other devices the night before you go to work the next day along with your tool batteries.
M
What’s up with the huge mark-up price from ACME Tools? Showing $369!!!! Tool Nut showing $219, as well as the ToolGuyd write up/review.

https://www.amazon.com/Power8-Multi-function-Armored-Accessories-P8-CP1/dp/B082FQJ9Z1/ . if DeWalt made a table saw box where circ saw is mounted upside down to lid for small rips
Kyran
When the box is fully charged how many batteries will it charge ( I know it will depend on the battery) but don’t want to buy it if it will charge two batteries per charge of the box, thanks
Stuart
The charger does NOT have a built-in battery, it must be plugged into an AC power source.
MC
Does anyone know if this will hold 8 FlexVOLT batteries?
