Dewalt has expanded their ToughSystem 2.0 storage system with a new compact deep tool box, model DWST08035.
The new tool box is a half-width tool box, similar to their new ToughSystem battery charger and storage tool box (DWST08050), but taller. Dewalt also has a compact organizer (DWST08020).
Compact ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes and organizers can stack and lock to each other, and to the top lids of standard-width ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes.

Features include metal-wire front latches, weather sealing, removable dividers for interior organization, and a removable compact tool tray.
The Dewalt ToughSystem compact deep tool box has a 5.3 gallon (20L) storage capacity.
The tool tray has a clear lid, a long compartment for hand tools, and a compartment that looks to accept Dewalt ToughCase-type drill and screwdriver bit rails.
The tray can be placed across the top of the open compartment as well. Or, take it out and use it somewhere else.
The molded side handles have integrated slots for hanging cordless power tools or accessories via their belt hooks.
Additional features include a bi-material top handle, customizable content plate for leveling, and an Auto-Connect stacking latch as found on other ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes and organizers.

This looks to be a welcome addition to Dewalt’s ToughSystem 2.0 storage system.
The removable tool tray seems like a good idea for holding smaller tools and parts that would otherwise get lost in a tool box this deep, and it can be stowed in the tool box in vertical or horizontal orientation.
Product photos show the tool box holding a cordless impact driver and oscillating multi-tool – both placed upright for easy access – a couple of tubes of construction adhesive materials or caulk, and the included removable tool tray.
But what else can it hold? I’d like to see more examples of how it can be used. How would you use a tool box like this?

The charger looks to be a different height.
If you wanted to stack anything on top you would need to add one of the 1/2 size clear organizers above or below the charger to make it level.

I have mainly Ridgid 1.0 and lots TStak; only 1 TS 1.0 as part of a “free” with tool buy, so I have not followed the 2.0 much.
I am assuming that regular sized (width) 1.0 and 2.0 do stack together…yes?

1.0 and 2.0 full size lids are interchangeable locking wise. The only time it matters is the 1.0 lids won’t accept half width boxes and bags.
Really I tend to think if the half width stuff as the loose parts, bags, etc. that goes on top. Best use is on -.0 I have to load this in a full size tote bin, which I like better anyway..it fits things the boxes don’t like a Veto LC bag.

OK, so 1.0 & 2.0 are compatible, except with half size boxes, not able to lock on a lid. So if I understand correctly, if I want to place something on top of 2 half width boxes (even if as you say, typical use would be to have them as the top items), it can be either a 1.0 or 2.0 and everything will be able to lock up nicely…correct?
I really like these tall boxes, I might get 2 or 4 for tools and their accessories, and it would be nice if the 1.0 box can at least go on top when necessary.

I’m excited to see the ToughSystem 2.0 line growing. I’m not sure if I have a specific need for this deep 1/2 box, but now I’m trying to think of one….
I’m more excited about the upcoming ToughSystem to T-stak adapter plate, that will open up some more value based storage options for me for tools I use less frequently.
I also saw a 3 drawer box in the pipeline similar to the existing 2 drawer one.

Amazing. This is exactly what I need. I like the vertical organization for drill/driver + a tough case insert for bits. I also really love the hooks for the belt clips. I built some in my workshop for tool storage. It would be nice to have one on a toolbox.
My current system is large ToughSystem 2.0 boxes with insert trays for my tools. It fits things compactly, but gets tedious an precarious to find a safe level spot to pull out the insert trays to get to the bottom. With this, I can have direct access to my smaller tools.
I will also get one of these for home improvement. My workshop and primary tool storage spot is in the basement. When I put together furniture or install something, I have to carry a socket set, a stud finder, some screwdrivers, and a drilll/driver…a small subset. I can carry a really heavy full box with EVERYTHING up the stairs, but normally I just grab a toolbag and throw in it what I need.
With these, I can put the hand tools in the box and clip the drill/driver/light to the sides dangling. It’ll be MUCH lighter. Plus with those clips, I have less of an excuse to leave my tools out.
The price is a bit high, but nothing compared to festool and on par with Milwaukee.
I hope this gets a wide release.

Do those caulk tubes actually fit? From the picture it looks like they stick up out of there by an inch or two.

Looks like they’d have to line up between the ribs in the lid. So they probably technically fit but would be tricky to reliably get in the right spot.

Not specifically for this case, but with all the expensive systems and boxes being released/advertised I wonder how long until contractors are rolling full Pelican cases out on jobsites.

I teach in a recently built school and we’ve had lots of contractors finishing up various areas – I did notice one of the AV techs responsible for some of the higher end equipment wheeling a pelican air around.

Not completely unexpected. If this tech is responsible for hi-tech equipment, he might be carrying around sensitive equipment. His/her equipment is likely sensitive, like for calibration, and is not robust like a drill circular..etc., and probably very expensive.
Pelican has been making these boxes, with padding and mold to fit interiors, for quite some time. They are used more to protect what was inside, like medical equipment, high end camera equipment, and unique tools that are costly and need special handling.

I would avoid keeping sika cartridges and spray cans in a black box. It doesn’t take much sunlight to heat up. I had a can explode inside a toolbox it blew the lid off.
I think it’s too big for one tool and batteries/accessories and it gets too heavy with 2. Maybe something larger than a driver. A belt sander or circular saw plus a plane or a small arc welder with its cables. Also, upright tools don’t give me ease of access. I prefer to have access to the tool handle.

I think the best use of this size of case is to assemble a “kit” for a specific task.
E.g. maybe you keep your electrical tools in one like a multi-meter, some screwdrivers, a wire stripper, linesman pliers, side cutters, tape, some connectors, etc. The idea being to make it a grab-and-go kind of kit.
I prefer my soft-sided open-top bag for that, but I could this being a reasonable alternative for someone who carries more tools and uses Toughsystem boxes for the other stuff.

This could be the best toughsystem component yet. Add one or two half-size organizers on the bottom with fasteners. Drills and hand tools in the tool box. Could be very compact and convenient.

I want to see these manufacturers come out with solutions that don’t require unstacking the box. Vertical drawers, Deep drawers, Folding doors, etc. I want solutions that keep everything on the stack, but give me access at the same time. A box with a lid on it can be found anywhere. Give me something that saves me time and mess.

The original 1.0 system if you used the separate two wheeled dolly (DWST08210) with the fold out rails did exactly that. Allowed full access to all items in the stack without unstacking the whole stack of boxes.
I guess marketing research showed that people prefer the Milwaukee style where you have to unpack everything to get to the bottom box?
But I’m with you I put much prefer not having to disassemble everything to get to what I need quickly. I believe the 2.0 is backwards compatible with the added benefit you can stack stuff on the lids if you want to.

The “separate two wheeled dolly (DWST08210)” you mention, if I recall form people’s comments, it was expensive. It was also a bit cumbersome and unwieldy to move around.
3 heavy boxes stacked on top of each other on a wheeled box moved much better than 3 similar heavy boxes on this dolly.

I like these taller tool boxes. You can store pliers, hammers, etc. vertically, so you don’t have to rummage through tools lying on top of each other. And they’re less awkward to carry than long boxes, especially up stairs and around corners. I’m going to pick one up!

It looks like that new mini organizer is 1/2 or 1/3 of a ToughSystem 2.0 tray? Could fit in a full size TS 2.0 sideways. It’s nice that they clip together as well. There are some other notches and protrusions that I’m curious about as well….almost like it could clip in with ToughCases.

Looks like a nice box especially with the tray and the dividers. I saw a recent picture of the Tough System 2.0 lineup and it included I want to say half a dozen 2.0 products not currently on the market. Looks like 2023 is going to be a reasonably big year for Tough System 2.0.
