Discussion
It’s good to see Dewalt adding to their ToughSystem 2.0 line of modular tool storage products. The full-width organizer joins Dewalt’s previously-released half-width organizers, and outside of form factor and side-latch updates, the 2-drawer tool box looks mostly unchanged from its ToughSystem configuration.
The tool bags are brand new additions. I posted about the 22″ tool bag separately, and hold to my opinion that it looks incredibly versatile. The compact 11″ tool bag looks to be a nice addition as well.
Dewalt says that the tool bags and organizer are available where Dewalt products are sold, and the 2-drawer unit should be available in May 2022.

I’ve been waiting for that half-size bag since, well, I dunno. But I posted on it here a while ago and was waiting for months before that (I think I saw it in the UK last year but didn’t buy it).

Bright yellow liners on the inside of the bags was a nice touch. Lets you find stuff easier in low light situations.
Too bad they didn’t make the inside of the tough boxes yellow that would be pretty cool.
Whatever happened with the 2.0 radios? I heard they had a bunch of quality issues. did they fix the issues?
Stuart
Not yet – I haven’t heard any updates since the ToughSystem Music 2.0 was pulled from the market.

Ditto, when it was pulled, I went with the first version and now see the needed room for improvement that was to be in ver2 that fell short.
The way that radio power supply cable could have been executed better. like the slot for the usb should have been added to the front or the back, that was not the case with the ver1.
James
I emailed dewalt a year ago and they said they have no plans to release another radio.
I cannot understand how the largest tool company in the world that owns dewalt can be so behind with products compared to milwaukee.
Frank
Ditto 👏🏽
They seem to always be trailing “Red”. My shop that used to be pure Dewalt Yellow, now has more & more splashes of “Red”. I get the same comment from many friends. Now that “Red” has invested in a real “made in the USA” factory, I believe we will see some loyalty changes.
Jared
Looking good. I do want an open-top bag too please Dewalt.

What worries me is the durability of the “touch release” system on the 2 drawer unit. It’s the only thing I could see causing problems. The ball bearing slides are a welcome feature, it will make opening a loaded drawer easier than in the usual plastic sliding on plastic construction.
The tiny bag looks great, and the interior is high contrast, so easier to spot your tools.

Don’t all the Dewalt drawer units (old Toughsystem and Tstak too) have ball bearing slides? The only plastic sliding drawer units I have are in the ridiculously expensive Pelican unit (and newer ones have ball bearing).
bg100
Yep, I have both of the other drawer units and they are ball bearing drawer guides.

If they’re going to be showing the stack ridiculously smeared with mud in their advertisements, they’d better be suggesting the entire stack (drawers included) can be hosed off with no worries of water intrusion, otherwise, what’s the point of the silly picture?
MM
The photo reminded me of the time I saw an aerosol can of imitation mud that people could apply to their truck or SUV to make it appear that they had taken it off-road.

The Home Depot listing for the old drawers claims an IP54 rating.

I don’t know about the drawer unit or the 2,0 series but all the tge 1.0 boxes have been through tropical storms in the back of a pickup with no issues. I’ve been very satisfied except once when I accidentally left the air pressure valve open it filled up with water.

I already have both bags. I preordered them from Acme Tools. I like them both. I’ve been doing carpentry trim work out of the large one. I like it. I like the smaller one too but it sags. I have it loaded with electrical/HVAC tools. It is ridiculous that it doesn’t stand upright. I have a sheet of HDPE coming to velcro into it that I hope will stiffen it up.

I am just laughing at the stock photos … lets drop a damp sponge throughthe mud and wipe it over a new toolbox stack so it looks rugged … and then left wondering who in the world is satisfied with that kind of product photography … I guess it is 2022 and I am turning old and grumpy???
Roger
I facepalm when they do that. A little dust for the effect and some small amount of mud step at the base would be plenty. Maybe they’re using interns.
Franck B.
Dewalt used to show extremely clean tools in the product photos and I think people complained, and this is the result.
Still, their work areas are too clean in the pictures where they’re halfway through making cuts in wood… I can see the extractors are not hooked up.
MFC
It looks like someone drew a happy face on the drawer unit.
Frank
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Well, you are not alone in your observations 😂 What’s next? Air brushing with sawdust?
Joshua Morris
Where is the nice open top tool bag with shitloads of pockets inside and out.
I like the craftsman tradestack one but it’s lagging slightly the quality department
Roger
Tough system is still lagging behind. I have two garage racks with a 3rd on the way. There is so much more potential, but it’s like they’re out of touch.
Sometimes the IP rating doesn’t even have to be very high. Corrugated metal drawers would be a nice alternative and they wouldn’t sag so easily.
Still looking out for the fabled three drawer unit. $120 for the two drawer is a little bonkers. It doesn’t even come with containers like ver1.0
Roger
They could also make a TS vac that’s mountable.
Munklepunk
I think the big issue is their mounting design. It makes a slim design hard to make because the latches would be too tall. They decided to make the 1.0 compatible instead of a complete redesign, for better or worse.
Frank
Agree on the ” three drawer” observation. I’ve noticed Dewalt has done that quite a bit. They do a tease of a new product release. Everyone is excitedly looking forward to the new product drop, and then… crikets. No updates, no news, no product, nothing.
MFC
So I can’t find any internal dimensions of these boxes. Seems kind of basic to list the dimensions. I’m guessing it’s the same as 1.0? Stuart? Anybody?
Stuart
I wasn’t given dimensions and cannot find them, will ask.
I would assume drawer dimensions to the same as for the 1.0 model, and the external dimensions should be similar if not identical.
Dimensionally speaking, ToughSystem 2.0 is and 1.0 tool boxes are extremely close. The shapes of things, and the latches are the main differences, and this doesn’t affect overall internal or external dimensions very much.
Franck B.
Most of the Toughsystem 2.0 boxes (the already released ones, not the drawer/organizer) are larger inside than the original versions. It’s obvious as the tray units can fit inside the newer boxes, but they only fit inside the rolling box from the non-2.0 line. Dewalt claims “20%” improvement for some.
Back to the organizer:
I didn’t think I had them, but it turns out that I do have some of the “square” organizer bins used in the 2.0 organizer (I had put them aside because I wasn’t using them). Based on measuring those bins and the older rectangular ones, it appears the 2.0 organizer is slightly larger inside. On the old organizer, they didn’t want the bins to be “under” the folded down latches, because the latches are attached to the base and that would prevent opening the top. Since the new latches always stick up, they used that space and widened the top. Of course as has been pointed out, the new latches make it difficult to stack non-Toughsystem stuff on top (a la Lboxx), or not possible to stack Toughsystem items without them becoming latched.

I’m excited to see a tough system 2 release of the 2-drawer unit, but mostly because I want a price drop on the 1.0 drawers. Looking forward to the bags hitting my local store so I can plan out a new plumbing bag. I do wish the accessories I’ve built up would fit better inside the 2.0 pieces, it’s a real bummer when the boxes and trays just fall in and slide around instead of locate securely.
quattro98
I’d like to see the 3 drawer unit. It was available overseas, but I don’t think it made it to the US.
Kirk
Why no DS carrier slots on the side of new organizer? bags I get it but… looks real similar to my ts1 organizer, half boxes are ok, I converted one into 12v ½” dcf901 impact and sockets case, def grabbing the big bag! hope toughsystem vac is released! I had to rebuild n seal my modded toughsystem vac recently. refurbished the 2.0 radio with a new drok 4.5″ subwoofer, small issues but crazy loud and bass bumps! I have 3 radios to get rid of after refurb them!
Thom
I’m not buying this until they make a tstak adapter!
