Dewalt is coming out with a new adapter plate, DWST08017, that will allow many kinds of Dewalt tool boxes, organizers, and accessories to connect to ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes.
The Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 multi-system adapter will allow cross-platform compatibility with TStak, Pro Organizer, and ToughCase products.
Additionally, integrated slots on both sides can be used to hang power tools and accessories via their belt hooks.

The adapter auto-connects to all ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes and modules in the same way as a 2.0 tool box or organizer would.
The adapter has clips for small and medium ToughCase accessory kits. It can fit up to 2 medium ToughCases, up to 4 small ToughCases, or a combination of up to 1 medium and 2 small cases, as shown in this product photo.
ToughCases can also be stacked together.
Dewalt Tstak tool boxes and other compatible products can be attached to the adapter via the outer side clips.
As a reminder, Dewalt’s large ToughCase accessory case, which is not shown here, is compatible with Tstak products.
Additionally, Craftsman VersaStack tool boxes and organizers are compatible with Dewalt Tstak components.

Lastly, the adapter also works with Dewalt Pro organizers.
Dewalt’s Pro organizers are NOT Tstak compatible, so how do they attach to the same adapter?
Ah – the adapter appears to be double-sided. Flip it over, and you have side clips positioned to lock Pro system organizers in place. Oh, that’s smart.

I think that brings a lot more realism to their marketing photos compared to the ones where everything is too clean (often including the models holding the tools). However sometimes it can be a bit overdone, I can’t recall the exact tool box but I remember in one of Stuart’s articles the photos looked like someone had wiped a muddy rag all over it and that had the opposite effect.

In fairness, I think DeWalt’s biggest gap is people who use tools indoors. ToughSystem and Packout are clearly designed for outdoor job site users. However, many professionals only work indoors, like many electricians or woodworkers or trim carpenters or just woodworking hobbyists like me.
The extra bulk of ToughSystem and Packout add cost, weight and decrease usable space. We want a well organized tool system that slows rust in a garage or van, but we don’t need to leave out tools out on a muddy job site in the middle of a monsoon.
Tstak was a great idea, but the quality was too low. They’re too narrow to fit a full sized reciprocating saw or hammer drill. They’re too flimsy to fit a circular saw without bending when you pick them up…and some software weather sealing would have done wonders…not enough to be a DeWalt mud model, but maybe to slow corrosion if you’re storing tools in a garage or get sprinkled on when bringing your tools back from the customer’s house to your vehicle.
Also, their biggest sin was availability….I simply couldn’t buy them anywhere. They are often out of stock online and most of us want to actually see the toolbox before we buy.

Couldn’t agree more. Something in between TStak and TS/PO would be perfect in size (constantly rolling through finished doorways, etc.) and disposition (I don’t need it hurricane proof). And maybe an option to start with drawers on the bottom (why isn’t this a thing?). And the TStak 4-wheeled dolly, just a little heavier duty.

Many (all?) TStak 2.0 is IP54 rated, is that good enough?
Off the top of my head here are the less rugged systems I know of:
— Tstak/Tstak 2.0/VersaStak. External ~13″x~17″
— Systainer, MakPac, and such. Can definitely handle circular saws (e.g. Makita track saw).
— Hart. I’ve checked them out at Walmart. Wimpy plastic, but has 2 and 3 drawer units with better specs than TStak, Limited choices. External ~13″ x ~19″
— Husky Connect. I just looked at the 2 drawer unit. Resin construction, limited choices and availability. External ~12″ x 21″.
I think if you want more rigid cases, you’re going to end up with TS/Packout/Ridgid/etc construction in any case.

In the US, Dewalt’s TSTAK isn’t IP54 rated — you have to do an international purchase from eBay/Amazon to bring those in from abroad.

To my knowledge, ToughSystem 2.0 products all attach to ToughSystem 1.0, except for half-width tool boxes and other products that require a 2.0-style lug at the center.

I just want a drawer box that can go on the bottom of a rolling cart from Ridgid. The new cart is removable so it may happen. Bottom layer drawers, upper layer tool chest so I can access everything without unstacking.

This has been a rumor for a while and I have been waiting for a long time. It is a great surprise to see it work with the pro organizers! For me that is a huge bonus. Having bought into all 3 systems, I need this!
I do find myself wishing that their shallow pro organizers were more of the Stanley 25-piece container with the removable bins. Those are still available so no loss to the DeWalt brand. But if I am honest, if they were available and compatible with these systems, I would probably find myself buying those instead (I figure I need about 10 more of each to complete my garage workshop storage).
Another minor gripe I have that I am sure someone with a 3d printer can solve is the different sized removable bins within these system. The Pro-organizer and tstak (and versastak) are the same size. The, tough system is not. This plate does go a long way into addressing this and I will probably continue to standardize on the tstak organizer bins.
One side question. Does anyone know if DeWalt still makes the tstak clear top organizer that is the same size as small box? When the versastak came out, it looks like they switched all of those to the thin style which is great for space efficiency. I do enjoy the slightly larger clear lid for some tools because the top handle on the normal box makes it hard to fit some stuff without going to the larger tstak box. It’s a personal preference but I like them better than the standard tstak I boxes.

You are correct. The older style ones have been superseded by the Versastack-style clear top cases. I have ordered multiple via Amazon over the years and the newer ones are all I have received.

This is a step in the right direction, but only seems useful for people who use the wheeled mounts. I like to use the top handle.
Tstak cases can’t handle weight. That’s why I instantly returned them after I bought them. I put 1 circular saw in and saw the thing deforming when I picked it up by the top handle.
What I really really really want is a ToughSystem version of DT70716 (TSTAK Caddy for Small ToughCase Sets). An organizer for those awesome small toughsystem cases, but you apparently can’t get those in the USA yet and it’s TSTAK only. For some reason, Europe gets all the good tstak stuff.

Honest question: Would it help or hurt individual brands to produce cross-platform mounts (if IP rights/licensing would allow it). Maybe an extreme example: A Ryobi plate that would allow Packout mounting. One might argue that Ryobi is shooting themselves in the foot by encouraging non-Ryobi purchases, but what if someone liked the rolling base of one platform and a drawer module from another? It seems like it might encourage purchases rather than cannibalize sales.

I bought the Craftsman V20 version of the TS radio and though it sounds absolutely amazing, it’s got enough fatal flaws to make it a no thank you…. The radio reception is silly bad and no external antenna to allow you to try and tweak it. The software that runs the stereo is stupid clutzy and slow to turn on and has an annoying looping Craftsman logo constantly while turned on.
I bought it on a deal and figured I’d adapt it to my M12 batteries via a 20v>12v step down transformer with an LED voltage meter to monitor the voltage. That all worked and very nicely and the battery compartment was perfectly suited to the adaptation, but the clunky interface and crap reception made me abandon the entire idea.

I don’t consider anything to be official unless found on Dewalt’s USA page or social accounts or at USA retailers (online or in stores).

Dewalt definitely under-delivers on TSTAK products in the US and there are better versions / additional options you can only get abroad.
Might disagree with you on ToughSystem though…if Dewalt releases a TS product, you can typically purchase it in the US. I can’t think of a single TS product that’s unavailable stateside. That being said, there have been a couple of versions teased for the 3-drawer unit that never made it, but it’s apparently set to make its debut later this year.

I am so thrilled the are finally doing this! I have both Dewalt TStak & Craftsman VersaStack. I have gone all in on the Dewalt Toughcase+ for bits & small tool kits. I love the fact that I can grab a combination of things and they all snap together and I am good to go.
That said. The Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 has some amazing features that I definitely can use. I plan to the two drawer ToughSystem 2.0 on my boat. I am going to try to mount it right over the engine. Still a work in progress.
But I have other setups using TStak/VersaStack. For example, I have Craftsman Mechanic Tools in a VersaStack stack up such that I can roll everything right up to my truck on the TStak dolly. I also have a Dewalt Track Saw (in TStak) stacked up with the Dewalt HEPA vacuum, also TStak, for a mobile Trak Saw Setup. Or I can move the dust collector over to a stack up of TStaks that have all of my sanders and sanding supplies.
I happened to be disabled where I have some mobility issues. So having everything modular and on wheels is becoming essential these days.
The other thing it affords me is I can move workspaces easily or compact everything into storage. With all of my tools in rolling stack, I can know at a glance how many squared feet of storage space I need if I need to stow it all for a period of time. I also can redeploy to any new workspace with minimal effort. And since I heavily invested in cordless options like Dewalt FlexVolt tools (miter saw, etc). I can work practically anywhere. I recently picked up a Ryobi electric start Bluetooth Generator. So I am now highly mobile. Ya know, just in case of space aliens invading.
I am really glad to see this & it will be nice not to have to order it from the UK or elsewhere.

This adapter plate is definitely a step in the right direction. Cross platform and backward compatibility is vital, and the dewalt fans should eat this up. Given the size of the footprint for 2 medium toughcases side by side/4 small cases, this will be able to be half packout compatible with some trimming and some feet added. I made my own out of mdf but couldnt get them to “clip” into the grooves (i used plate hanger springs on the underside and brackets to hold them). This is so much better. I am so stoked.

This has to be the most exciting Toughsystem piece to come out. Almost like SBD read all the customer reviews and complaints and built exactly what people have been asking for. Just took them 8 or 10 years.

There are no consistent patterns between PR announcement, Dewalt.com listing, or retail distribution timings.
There are enough new Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 tool boxes and storage accessories that a PR announcement encompassing all of them might be on the way.
Some of those products might see high volume distribution at Home Depot, in which case I would expect this to launch online at around the same time.
Preorder listing aren’t up anywhere, but it might also ship and be available for immediate purchase.
If I had to guess, I’d say it might at least one month out, but even that’s little better than a 50-50 prediction.

Those ts van racks were selling super cheap on marketplace, shoulda picked up a few sets when I had the chance. But with the ds carrier cart and the two drawer box already available they may not make a wheeled 2 drawer box. (Modded mine to one deep drawer) But with wheels the carrier cart is a 27″ too wide. I still would like a toughsystem worktop like Milwaukee, I guess this is their version,made my own toughsystem corded/ cordless 18v/20v vac. Looks like they are releasing a version of this plate for toughsystem to attach to. It’s being marketed as an adapter for the new HEPA dust extractors. Looks just like this adapter, but has the Toughsystem latches on it and mounted to top of extractor/Vac.

Finally! This took forever to get in there heads. Now if they could just develop the TS and Tstack lines to expand the garage and maybe van options. Not every option has to be water tight. It’s sad Tstak2.0 isn’t easily available for NAmerican market.
A ToughSystem compatible BL vac would be a great addition. However, the self cleaning option could be left out to keep cost down. They could even making it like the rolling box.
What caught my eye are the supposed mounting holes in the corners. What are the holes for?
