Dewalt is coming out with a new line of metal workshop storage products and accessories.
The new Dewalt metal workshop storage solutions line is centered around a metal wall-mounting rail to which everything else can be attached.

Everything from metal cabinets and shelves, to accessory hooks and part bins, can be attached to the rail.

The accessories can be added, removed, or repositioned as needed.

The 48-inch mounting rails has holes along its entire length. This should allow for custom sizes and more convenient installation.

There is also a 20-inch rail.

There’s a rail-mounted power tool wall cabinet with top shelf and metal slots for a 5-position power tool dock for drills and drivers.

The front of the cabinet can be lifted and pushed in, allowing it to remain open without doors sticking outwards.
Dewalt says that the cabinet has a 500 lb load capacity when mounted directly to the wall (presumably to wood studs), and 200 lbs when mounted to a metal rail.

The 4-port battery dock accessory is compatible with Dewalt 12V Max, 20V Max, and FlexVolt batteries.

According to Acme Tools’ teaser video, new Dewalt workbenches will also feature the same rail system, with rails attached to the legs on both sides.

There will be new steel tool chests and roller cabinets in 3 sizes – 37″, 41″, and 52″, with each featuring full-extension ball bearing drawers.

The new chests also come with cordless power tool battery holder. There’s room to add additional hooks or accessories as needed.

There are also rails mounted to the side of the base roller cabinets. Mounting holes on the opposite side suggest that you can move the rails – or add up to two more.

The line also includes hooks for hand tools, supplies, and equipment such as air hoses and ladders.

Larger hooks can be used for cordless outdoor power tools, as well as handheld tools such as shovels and rakes.

A tool holster attachment provides a storage space for cordless drills, impact drivers, impact wrenches, and other such tools.

The new Dewalt workshop storage system looks to be broad and well-thought-out.
Pricing has not yet been announced.

Now if Rigid would only develop and market a neutral black version so the actual tools would stand out regardless of brand. Hmmm.
Dennis
I like what I see here. And to me it seems more economically efficient to hang up a couple rails, instead of covering the wall with Packout wall plates. But I’m already committed to a lot of Milwaukee Packout stuff, so I can’t quit now.
Scott
I’m a Milwaukee tool guy myself and I agree the rails would be nice as at least in option for Milwaukee Packout. One thing I do like about the wall plates is being able to put more than one bin etc on one wall plate and having more storage area overall vs the tall system of DeWalt. When it comes to cargo vans or enclosed trailers the wall plates are more ideal in my opinion as well.
Big Richard
A lot of it is up on their website as well – https://www.dewalt.com/products/storage/workshop-storage
I like that they are including some of the accessories with the tool cabinets/chests. Like the battery rail coming with the top chests is a nice touch.
Stuart
Thanks!
Agreed. It looks like thoughtful additions that can be used as standalone accessories with the chest and cabinet, or as part of a system.
Brad
Everyone and there mother already has a generic “system” out now that works with any type of tool.
Way to late for this to be anything shocking or new for anyone but true Dewalt fanboys (which isn’t a bad thing).
Stuart
A lot of people confidentially said the same about Milwaukee Packout…
Franco Calcagni
“Everyone and there mother already has a generic “system” out now that works with any type of tool.”
Actually, not everyone. Everyday, a teen or young adult will be buying their first tools, then tool storage, possibly even taking a stab at being a contractor or other trade work.
So just like everyday someone retires, everyday, a potential new customer enters the market.
Randy
Marketer 1: “We ran out of hooks, but the instructions say we need three more tools in the image?”
Marketer 2: “Oh just hook those over something. No one will notice.”
Marketer 1: “And this level? It doesn’t fit in the frame.”
Marketer 2: “Stop asking dumb questions and balance it on top.”
harrison
Lol if you think that’s bad, check out the image partway through the article with the 8 corded hammer drills in a row. What the hell…
Bevo
This guy drills!
Garrett
Not seeing anything really innovative here. Im pretty invested in the Rubbermade Fasttrack system, and those rails have a plastic cover to keep dust out of the rail. Plus, no yellow! To each his own, however.
Nate
Fasttrack is a good system! I used it for a while and found it to be effective at storing tools and other equipment on the walls of my garage.
Quick reflection: These things don’t really speak to me as “workshop” storage.
I see them instead as “tool storage” to pick tools up take to a worksite, or carry to a work location in your house. Covering a wall in Milwaukee Packout or this DeWalt system doesn’t really make for a place where you quickly find tools and work on a project (for me that’s woodworking). There’s really no replacement for a layout where your tools are set up in a place around some benches, tables, etc. I get that you can do that with this set up. In practice, I usually end up building something to fit in the nooks and crannies I have available in my space.
I think a lot of the popularity in these systems (for homeowners) is the rise of the “content creator” workshop that needs to look good on camera…
Roger
This is a greatly missed opportunity to integrate the Toughsystem racking system.
Beyond that, The cup style holder looks cool. Curious to know if it can be used without the rails.
Jared
I had a similar thought – it seems odd that this came out without Toughsystem integration. I get that it’s metal and not plastic, but it surprises me that it isn’t a crossover product.
It doesn’t NEED to be Toughsystem related – clearly this is intended for stationary storage. It’s just odd in light of Milwaukee and Ryobi’s approach.
Jason Zwaagstra
YEAH- How about at least another run of the Toughbox Job boxes for packout storage!
Michael F
There’s a lot to like here but I have the same main complaint as the Milwaukee PACKOUT storage expansion: who the heck really wants this much yellow or red in their garage/shop? Like damn this isn’t Sesame Street. We’re adults, either give us color choices or give us neutral gray.
Big Richard
Black, black should always be an option.
Robert
Agreed, for this functional reason. I don’t want bright Dewalt yellow attracting eyes to my garage when they drive by, when my garage car door is up. Some percentage of those eye balls may want to come by later and steal in demand and easy fenceable Dewalt tools. I totally get this is not an issue for everyone, but I prefer to keep my Dewalt tools and other tools low keyed in my black Husky cabinet and bench top tool chest. These Dewalt storage actually hint at a lot of useful functionality, but for the security reasons above I’m out.
Michael F
Completely agree, one of the reasons I’m dumping my Packout boxes. I’m not a tradesman so they don’t frequently leave my house but I don’t like all that attention grabbing red in my garage when I have the doors up. Plenty of guys around here won’t think twice about stealing name brand tools. Plus, when I put my tools in my black Husky chests the various colors don’t clash with obnoxious red. Teal, green, red, even lime all look fine in a black box.
harrison
Couldn’t have said it better myself, who would pay money to outfit their personal space like a brand’s retail display?
It’s like the guys who cosplay as Milwaukee tool reps. They’re geared up and accessorized head to toe with Milwaukee branded hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, pencil, coffee mug, etc. Open up their trailer to reveal more red than the devil’s boudoir.
Bro just quit your job already and become a tool rep- Milwaukee will round out your look with a nice red polo shirt.
Mopar4wd
There are ryobi guys too. Lots of picks in ryobi groups of walls of green laid out like an HD display in garges and basements across the country.
Jared
I like the rail inside the toolbox option. Personally I’m not a big fan of wall-based storage systems because they take up too much wall real estate for how much storage they offer. E.g. you cover up the amount of wall space necessary to store one tool versus having 18-24 inches of depth if that tool is stored in a drawer… and I never seem to have enough garage or shop space.
I do have some wall storage, but only on walls with counter space in front of them.
jec6613
This looks cross-compatible with the Craftsman Versatrack system, the accessories look 100% identical, the only difference being metal rails with a much higher load rating compared to the Craftsman plastic rails.
SWobig
I don’t mind all the red in my shop area – probably because most of the “older” boxes were red, so maybe I just am use to it. All the yellow does look strange to me though – I guess if you’re a DeWalt guy, it could be pretty cool. Some color choices would be nice though…
Stan_Dupp
Wait till the French find out their cleats are becoming obsolete.
Jbongo
Not in my garage! I have a stack of cleats I’ve cut to hang on the wall in my garage after I finish putting the trim back up in my basement.
I’ve always struggled with the idea of a wall systems, especially cheap ones, as what’s happens in 5 years if they stop producing pieces? I realize not everyone wants to take the time to build holders, but for me it’s a good way to have small woodworking projects.
BigTimeTommy
What happens in five years? DeWalt launches a new thing and you throw out all your old stuff and buy it 😉
Jeff
DeWalt just can’t stick with one system, can they. Totally lost opportunity to make this a Versatrack system, that way they would already have a built in customer base with existing systems that can expand with new DeWalt pieces.
jec6613
It probably is compatible. At least it appears identical except in the rails and weight rating of the rails.
Phranq
Too much yellow for me. If they offered almost any other color, I’d be into it.
Munklepunk
Looks like bumblebee exploded
Bevo
I like the wall cabinet, but at $250 seems pricey for the size. Looks like you could mount this with or without the rail system.
https://www.toolnut.com/dewalt-dwst82824-power-tool-wall-cabinet.html
Also, to make some fun of the marketing guys, the chargers are loaded back to front and it looks like the cabinet barely fits the small chargers. You would need to take the charger out to load a battery.
MicahMc
I have the Shelving units made by JS Products (dewaltshelving.com), and have been waiting for them to sell those proprietary peg hooks separately…for over three years! And still nothing. You have to purchase the full pegboard/shelf kit for one set of hooks.
I’ll be curious to see how this new system does and how long it’s supported/expanded upon.
Will
I agree about too much yellow. That was a selling point of the Toughsystem to me, it was mostly black. The rail system looks great though, especially if it’s cross compatible with versatrack. Not just for installing on a wall, but on the sides of work benches and racks where you need quick access to tools.
I sure hope they add toughsystem compatibility.
Jronman
I was surprised at how many corded drills the guy had.
Will
Yeah, that’s a little much, but they do seem to stay nice and shiny.
Justin
Overpriced French Cleats? I like DeWalt, but ummm.
Nicklas
I wish they would sell alot of the U.S Dewalt tools and accessories in Europe, its cost allmost the same in shipping as it costs.
Derek
Have you seen the prices for some of these things? Seems incredibly expensive for some of them.
$300 for the Power Tool Cabinet? https://www.acmetools.com/dewalt-power-tool-cabinet-dwst82824/721615315500.html
