A couple of months ago we posted about the Slim Timber wooden wallet, a seemingly simple (but pricey) minimalist wallet. We recently discovered two how-to’s that show how easy it is to make something like this at home.

As an aside, two readers wrote in describing a design flaw that led to the Slim Timber wallet demagnetizing their credit cards. If you decide to make your own wood wallet or card holder in the future, try to avoid magnetic closures if you can help it.

Ben made his wallet from 1/8″ baltic birch plywood and padauk wood spacers. He used a couple of benchtop power tools, but it is also possible to complete the project using only hand tools.

Ethan from One Project Closer also put together a nice how-to featuring a simple wooden business card holder design. A couple of quick modifications to the dimensions and you’ve got a slim card case or minimalist wallet.

“Most business cards, including mine, measure about 3″ x 2-1/2″ so I marked out two of those on the piece of pine.”

This is a mistake, it should be 3.5″ x 2″
