Dremel came out with a new YouTube Webshow, in Europe, and it’s kind of weird, but also good. It’s entertaining, and a little funny, and the project they work on is intended to serve as inspiration for your own projects.
I cannot quite find the perfect words to describe Dremel’s Hammertime show hosts, but it seems to be part Top Gear, part Craig Ferguson, and part Colin Ferguson (from Eureka and Maytag commercials). That might not make sense to you, but I can’t think of a better way to describe it.
It’s subtly goofy, and that’s what makes it a little awkward. I’m much more used to DIY hosts that are either serious or all-out comedic.

Regardless of how I can’t seem to perfectly describe it, Dremel’s Hammertime is still worth a quick watch. It’s a little under 7 minutes long.
Personally, I hate what they did to that poor narrow woodworking bench, but I suppose if it’s not used for fine joinery, then there’s little harm in doing what they did. Right?
But then there are the tractor headlights and skis used for a workbench lighting upgrade. I guess a Big Ass LED Light isn’t for everyone, but couldn’t they have used something more practical than headlights?!

I’m not afraid to mount things to mine, but I cringed when they made the power strip cutout.
The skis are both clever and goofy. I guess that’s what they were going for. I was hoping I’d learn some tricks, but the video was pretty light on content.

That is one weird video. I wonder whether the humor translates differently in Europe.
The drawers were pretty clever.

Drawers are quite a neat idea but not so sure about the humour. And I am in Europe!

Weird, yes. Like you, Stuart, I prefer DIY vids to be either/or on the serious/goofy content. This has the feel of TV commercial production values while pretending to teach the viewer something (although the drawer idea is practical).
What I do like is that the Dremel product was not overly focused on. In fact, they didn’t say the word “Dremel” even once, that I noticed. It acknowledges that the audience knows what a Dremel is instead of assuming we need to hear the name over and over.

Great!! I love this! Where does one subscribe to get the next installment? Not weird at all; the humor was spot on, and the ‘message’ (be inspired? think outside the box? have fun? lighten up? etc.) was well taken. I can totally relate to the humorous and poignant presentation of how we tend to take ourselves a bit too seriously and might benefit by ‘lightening up’ a bit. Better than Sunday’s sermon……
Thanks for posting!

Well I am going to be blunt and good chance this probably going to make someone angry, but oh well. Compared to DIY shows on television, this actually is much better as this is seems Bosch hired actors that at least don’t look similar to hipsters and actually seem to have component with tools. Sure this show is far from perfect, but at this wasn’t 100% product placement and the actors weren’t being overly dramatic either.
Best of the all, they didn’t use a teenage or young 20 something cutesy woman that is just there to get the attention of men. Not trying to be mean, but I’ve seen those DIY shows and I strongly doubt ANY foreman would allow anyone to walk in any jobsite in high heels and no safety equipment.
As for the comedy, this wasn’t that great, but wasn’t full of bad puns and dated references either. Those sometimes work, but require skill to pull them off.
I’ll give Alex credit, he admitted that work bench wouldn’t be universally perfect, but is perfect for him. I’ve just seen way too much shows where guys (mostly) think they are better everyone else and anything they make is always the best.
