Dremel Multi-Max Oscillating Tool Universal Adapter

Dremel has come out with a new universal adapter that allows its tool attachments to be used on all current oscillating multi-tools. This means that you can use widely available Dremel Multi-Max blades and accessories on Fein, Rockwell, Bosch, Craftsman, Ridgid and Masterforce branded multitools!

Since Fein’s patent expired, many brands have come out with their own oscillating multi-tools. Each tool had a different accessory attachment system, so tool users had no choice but to purchase like-branded accessories. Oscillating tool users will now be able to use widely available Dremel-branded accessories with their compatible tools.

Dremel offers a wide range of oscillating tool accessories and blades for cutting, scraping, removing grout, sanding and grinding. Aside for sanding pads, all Dremel accessories utilize their Quick Fit system, which features a slotted accessory connection instead of an enclosed blade, for quick and easy changes.

The Multi-Max universal adapter is now available at around $5.

It’s far easier to find Dremel accessories locally rather than Bosch, so this would do well for me and my PS50. The Dremel pieces tend to be cheaper as well, I wonder about their longevity in comparison.

It’s hard to say which brands’ accessories are “better”, but it looks like local availability for both are increasing. I spotted relatively large displays of both brands’ accessories at local hardware stores recently.

Bosch has also greatly expanded their selection of oscillating multi-tool accessories which also now feature built-in universal adapters.

I honestly don’t know if the Bosch accessories ofter greater longevity, but it might be a fair assumption given the pro-user market they’re made for.

Glad to see that you sall “all current” models. Our old Feins have nothing but a screw and friction to hold blades in place – sometimes not too effectively if you apply a lot of lateral force. Fein sells a “star-shaped” adapter – but the adapter is still held down with the center screw and is not much better at resisting twisting. If the tools were not so long lasting – it would be easy to bite the bullet and upgrade them all.

That’s the language Dremel used in their press release, and it seemed too carefully worded not to mention here.

That does say a lot about the Feins, that your older models lasted this long. Bosch is coming out with universal accessories as well, but I’m afraid you’ll run into the same issue. If you go through a lot of Fein accessories, it might just be time to upgrade. That you said “upgrade them all” makes my wallet want to hide and close its eyes.

I purchased the Dremel as soon as it came out not wanting to spend the price of a Fein. Have since been very disappointed in Dremel accessories. Can not imagine any one wanting to use the Dremel accessories on the other models as they are typically inferior to the other ones on the market. Hoping some one will sell an adapter for the Dremel to use “other” accessories.

I bought Harbor Freights single speed version…they have a variable speed also. I’ve used the heck out of it on a boat restoration and I mean hard extended use. If it would have lasted 1 day I would have gotten my moneys worth. Still not one problem after a year! Noisy as hell…but that’s why God made ear plugs…
although He did not include them in this deal. The unit and a bunch of accessory blades and scrapers were less than $70. I read a negative review about the blades loosening while using the tool…never happened to me..not once! I can’t think of an inexpensive tool I have ever owned that has performed as well with zero grief. I give them as gifts to special friends…and no, I don’t work for Harbor Freight.

I bought the variable speed version of Harbor Freight’s Chicago Electric Multifunction Tool and it worked well for about 4 hours total running time…then died.
Attachments were one shot devices that wore out quickly. So lesson learned (relearned) about buying right the first time.
    Fein is my next choice.

I own the dremel, and I’ve had mixed results with these adapters, for the life of me I still don’t understand why bosch and dremel didnt get on the same page with their designs.
Funny thing is bout a month or so ago I noticed a Fein display at my home depot, it was a 200 dollar model with some basic assortment of attachments. Using Depot as a distro for their attachments is a smart move by Fein, seems like a similar arrangement that rockwell has with lowes, which has probably lead to more people buying the soniccrafter, where as before it was only available online/tollfree.

Deciding purchasing factor on the dremel was that I could find their attachments everywhere, and there were only a few models to chose from at the time.

Stuart–I haven’t heard anything new about the Porter-Cable adaptor plate that would allow one to use other brands of blades on their oscillating multi-tool. I see folks alluding to poor performance and higher pricing for P-C blades relative to the other blades available on the market. It has occurred to me that we may not see one, as it would divert sales of P-C blades to other manufacturers’ blades, possibly hurting sales of both blades and the tool itself. The adaptor may go the way of GM’s electric car of a few years back (i.e., until it suits P-C’s purposes to introduce it).

Is there an adaptor I can use on my Dremel multimax MM40 with a Quick lock to be able to use the Rockwell blades I have already purchased (in error) because yes, these should have a universal fit!

It looks like Bosch’s adapter ($0.99 via Amazon allows you to use Bosch OIS-compatible and universal-style blades with your Dremel tool.

I have two older Dremels, models #395 and
#300. I also need a universal adaptor! What would you recommend?
Would also like to find a kit of engraving tools that will work with either or both of
my Dremel models. Any suggestions? I need these for metal engraving.
    Thanks,

    Greetings of love.

I just bought a new Fein Oscillating Multi tool and wonder if it is possible to use the Dremel accessories I still have after my Dremel burned out.

Standards have changed a lot in recent years, but there is still a lot of cross-brand compatibility and “universal” interfaces.

If you have a new Fein multi-tool and Dremel accessories, the easiest way to answer your question would be to try it out.

That said, Dremel accessories should fit older Fein tools, unless it’s a modern/latest Starlock-compatible tool. I don’t know of any non-Starlock accessories that fit Fein and Bosch Starlock tools.
