Duck Painters Tape

Did you know that Duck makes Clean Release blue painter’s tape?

Did I?

There’s nothing else surprising here – they advertise the tape as being ideal for use on a variety of surfaces, such as painted walls and other surfaces, trim, glass, wood, and metal.

It’s UV-resistant, and rated as delivering 14-day clean removal without any residue, when used in a location that has indirect or no sunlight.

This is a medium-adhesion tape that should be good for all the kinds of tasks one would use painter’s tape for.

While I know that 3M and Scotch aren’t the only maker of tape like this, I don’t think I’ve seen Duck-branded painter’s tape before.

If you’ve tried this tape, how do you like it?

P.S. What’s your take on Frog Tape, and other 3M/Scotch alternatives?

I get a lot of 3m blue tape from work. It’s ok. But if I’m buying my own i usually get the green 3M tape #2060. It’s super sticky and usually a little cheaper than frog tape and just as good if not better, especially on stuff like brick and stucco but I use it on everything.

I have no problem buying frog tape it’s actually really good even though I hate to admit it for some reason.

For bulk masking it’s hard to beat the 3M 2020 tape. It’s the cheapo stuff but sticks very well. However I wouldn’t leave it on anything for more than a day. It’s meant to mask, paint, pull off in same day. If not it can leave a residue or even worse break apart when you go to pull it off.

I get all these tapes in the 1″ format. No need for more than that usually.

PS any green tape is great for labelling as well as it’s easier to see.

Thanks Nick fir some great info. Getting ready to help with a paintjng project at church and I pushing for good masking of everything in sight. Volunteers are great but sometimes become shallbwe say, over zeslous in the application of product.

If you get a hand masker the 3m one is good with the blade that’s designed to cut plastic film (avoid the paper one it’s not as sharp and the plastic one can cut both). I’ll run that along the top of base with a 9″ paper sticking straight out if I have volunteers. I’ll use that with the 2020 tape. The masker is pricy but pays for itself in no time.

Nice thing about the 2020 tape is you can double it up if they’re applying super heavy without feeling guilty (some people like to basically paint the entire tape, lol and it will bleed through no matter what)

Am I the only one that feels like this particular article is a bit of Deja Vu?

I did a search of the site for previous mentions of Duck brand Blue Painter’s Tape and got nothing, but I could swear Stuart has announced this stuff before.

Anybody else got this feeling, or am I going crazy? Crazy, by the way, is a totally valid response that I will not take offense to. I genuinely don’t know if I’ve seen this here on ToolGuyd before, I just have a gut feeling like I have.

    Anybody else?

Got nothing for you, but I fall into that “crazy” category sometimes myself, so maybe I’m not the best source or reference on that! ?
