The Esee Izula is an iconic fixed blade that’s made in the USA.
Technically, it’s for “adventurers,” and also sold as a survival knife, but I think it could also be an excellent pick for random general outdoorsy tasks.
It comes with a molded sheath, but you’ll need to source your own handle. Or not – you can hold the skeletonized handle as-is, it’s just not as comfortable.

When I bought mine, the only option was to wrap the handle in paracord.

These days, there’s an option where you can get G10 handle scales separately or in a bundle with the knife.
I know what you’re thinking – “that color!” Don’t worry, they have plenty of color options.

How do you like this one?

Here are some more color options.
The Esee Izula is made from 1095 high carbon steel, and there’s another version made from S35V stainless steel.

1095 is a high carbon steel with great hardness and toughness, and is well-suited for knives and cutting tools. It’s prone to rusting, which is why most of the knife’s surface is coated.
I lasted posted about the Izula over 15 years ago. It doesn’t look like Esee has changed it much over the years.
I bought one and really liked it, but I found I like the idea of fixed blade knives more than I actually use them. Inexpensive Morakniv knives are more my speed. I still have my Izula around here, and go through periods where I’ll use it for a stretch and then store it away again.
That said, I have zero regrets. Actually, that’s not true – I got mine in a boring plain color. If buying the Izula today, I’d get it in a brighter color, maybe Venom Green or Fire Ant Red.
Esee was one of the first fixed blade knives I tried out.
Price: usually $64 to $72 for the knife, more if you want the handle or accessories package
I did some digging, and from what I’ve read the seller on Amazon is an authorized Esee dealer.
There’s another version of the Izula, called the Izula 2. They both have the same ~2-7/8″ blade length, but the Izula 2 has a longer handle.
I tried a couple of other Esee knives years ago, and several handle styles too. Please let me know if anyone wants me to dig them up for lengthier discussion.
