The other day we discussed the Atom multi-tool. This Atom is different, it’s a micro-sized photoelectric smoke alarm.
Most smoke alarms are disc-shaped devices that attach to the wall or ceiling. First Alert’s P1000 Atom is still designed to be attached up high, but has a much smaller footprint. The Atom is 7.19″ tall, 2.5″ wide, and is powered by a 3V CR2 battery.
Online prices are a bit high (~$30), so this is something you would probably want to buy locally instead.
I first saw this smoke alarm on the shelf at the local Target, and it really is quite small. It looked to be about the size of one of those small 8oz soda cans.
As cutesy as these are, I would prefer to use a double sensor ionization and photoelectric alarm ($26 via Amazon), or a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm ($30 via Amazon) as primary sensors. Even so, the Atom seems decent for additional placements.
P.S. when’s the last time you replaced your smoke, fire, and CO alarms? If it was more than 10 years ago, make it a point to buy a couple of new ones right away!
