FYI – Do You Know What “Pitch” Means?

In our recent review of C.H. Hanson’s Precision Ball Level, we mention that the level can measure angles in degrees or in pitch. Well, following is the definition of pitch for those that are unfamiliar with the term as used in this context.

Pitch as measured by the ball level, refers to the slope of a roof. Pitch is defined as the vertical rise of a roof compared to its horizontal span. Normalized, pitch is the height of a slope across a 12″ span. In other words, a “2 pitch” or “2:12″ slope will rise 2″ across a 12” span. A “12 pitch” slope indicates a 45° angle.

In case you are wondering, no, we did not know about pitch either.
