Whoever it is at Sears that sets prices must have lost their minds. Or, more realistically, Sears is taking its battle against other retailers for customers’ attention to the next level. A couple of Gearwrench sets are currently phenomenally priced – they’re selling for less than I have ever seen them at ever before!
I just got home from Lowe’s, where a couple of Kobalt wrench sets were too cheap to pass up. I ended up bringing home a Crossform wrench set, which is regularly price at $80 and still on sale for $25.

I tried to order via the Sears website but each time I tried the pricing was incorrect. I sent Sears an email hopefully I will hear back. The pricing was great, I checked this morning and the prices are back up.
Stuart
Ron, the sale appears to have ended at about midnight last night. If that’s about the time when you tried to order, the pricing system was perhaps in the middle of being updated. I’ve seen that before during changeovers, where the product page has one price and the checkout has another.

damn, missed the sale while I was at the race track 🙁

advanced autoparts has 5 pc for $14.99

I talked to Sears today, my pricing in the cart was all messed up so I never placed the order. Now they say they don’t have record of the pricing over the weekend. If I want to order at full pice they’ll isssue a gift card to help with the difference. Not sure what I will do yet. At one point the price for the metric X-beam wrench was showing 17.99 in my cart when I tried to order. Sounds like Sears.com had some issues over the weekend.
Stuart
Yikes! Full price doesn’t sound good, though, unless they offer gift cards to defray 70% of the price. Even then, I probably wouldn’t be too happy either.
I saw a graphic over the weekend that showed the 70%-off discount, and after searching for a few minutes I found it still on Sears’ site – link. You can use that and a link to this post as proof. If they need more, I can send you a screenshot of my order confirmation if you think it will help.

Suart, thanks for the link. I am debating but it’s a huge price difference. I am not going to pay full price for them at this point that’s just insane. I tried 4xs during Saturday to place the order over the span of about 8 hrs to get the order in and each time the pricing was incorrect.

Do you think the $27.00 price was a mistake?
I was able to get the metric set ordered, I ordered Fri, 12/2/11.
Picked them up Monday night.
They were indeed $89.99, on the shelf when I picked up the metrics Monday night.
Almost felt like I was doing something dishonest.
Don’t see how they can sell them for $27.00?
That’s $63.00 off the shelf price.
So for that price, I should have got the Standards too!
BTY that store at the Highlands off Rt. 70 where Cabelas is, is pretty nice.
It’s one of those little sears stores, where they just sell a few appliances, tools, power mowers and tractors, and a few TV’s .
They just opened, the owner seemed pretty nice.
He said it was independently owned and operated.
Stuart
Sears’ online sale promo did say “up to 70% off select Gearwrench sets,” or something to that effect. And 70%-off $90 is $27. Right now the flex ratcheting wrenches are again on sale for $30 each.
It wasn’t a mistake, it was an incentive to spend more. I know I didn’t just buy the two wrench sets! Most people would have spent more to qualify for the $99 free shipping threshold. If not and they opted for in-store pickup, then the sale gets them to the store. Once you’re in the store, there’s a good chance you’ll see something else to buy.
This is all speculation, of course, but it’s a sound theory.
And yes, there are independently owned “Sears Hometown” stores around the country. If I recall correctly, we mentioned one of their promotions a while back where they were giving away an entire store!
Rob
Looks like these are back on sale, not as cheap but close. When I ordered last night the flex head was $29.99 plus free shipping if you spend $49. There were also some deals on the Craftsman 4 volt tools, the headphones and soldering already sold out.
