Gladiator 65-inch WorkBench for $150 (and Free Shipping)

Gladiator Starter Suite Workbench

Great, the one year I want to buy a 6-foot Gladiator maple-topped workbench or two (here’s my review of the 4-foot bamboo model), nobody has it on sale this year, at least not at the Black Friday price I was hoping for.

But I did notice this Gladiator Starter Suite 65-inch (~5-1/2″ feet) rubberwood top workbench, for $150, or around half-off (according to the list price), with free shipping.

The same workbench is on sale for $200 at Sears, with both being listed with a “regular price” of $300.

What the heck is rubberwood? According to Wikipedia, it’s a medium-density tropical hardwood that’s environmentally friendly because it makes use of rubber trees that have already served a useful function. So it’s not maple, or bamboo, but a different hardwood. At least it’s not MDF or particle board!

I’m still going to hold out in case there’s a good sale on the adjustable height workbenches, but if I wanted a light to medium duty workbench on a budget, I might spring for one of these.

Specs

  • 65″ long x 19″ deep x 39″ high
  • Holds up to 1500 pounds
  • Granite Hammertone powdercoated finish on the steel legs
  • Leveling feet
  • Hassle-free 10-year limited warranty

As for the 65-inch length, I’m thinking that this might have been done to keep the size and weight within conventional shipping limits. According to Amazon, the workbench weight is 79.1 pounds. Your UPS or FedEx delivery guy might not be very pleased with you, but at least you probably wouldn’t have to spend more or have to make arrangements with freight shipping
