Goldblatt Tools is a 125+ year old brand that produces masonry, tile, paint, drywall, and other trade tools. Goldblatt is currently undergoing a major renewal that will see the emergence of new products and tool designs, as well as a satisfaction and performance guarantee.
I’ve seen a preview of some of the new tool designs, and they do look quite innovative and promising. Most important is the company’s pledge to provide professional quality with no compromise.

It was a little unclear to me as to what prompted this renewal, but after a little digging around I found a press release (PDF) from September 2010 that detailed the purchase of Goldblatt Tool by a Chinese firm. The newly formed company, Goldblatt Industries, will continue to be operated from Kansas and Shanghai.

I have to admit – I’m not as familiar with Goldblatt Tools as I am with many of the other brands whose products we usually discuss. I found a Goldblatt drywall cutter on Amazon that has decent reviews, and a Drywall Talk forum thread that does not talk favorably about a particular tool set.
If you’ve used Goldblatt tools in the past, what do you think about them? Will you buy their tools now that the company is being renewed with new products and a new attitude?

I’ve used Goldblatt tools for over 30 years. They were available via catalog (from their Kansas City Location) and via many local dealers. They were focused on the “trowel trades”. We have about 50 of their tools still in use – based on my inventory. Their competition was from folks like Marshalltown and Bontool – and to a lesser extent Walboard Tools
My inventory – says we have about the same number of items from Marshalltown and Bontool – and about half that number from Walboard. Golblatt was at one point acquired by Stanley – and as you note more recently spun off.

I had a great mud pan that they made with a round bottom. Someone stepped on it and I spent hours trying to get my hands on another, but with no luck. It was a little like the marshalltown, but didn’t have any corners at all. Totally round bottom.

Thanks for the great comments on Goldblatt Tools. I think some of the new items we are launching this year will be of great interest and Joe we just re-launched our round bottom mud pan (and added some non slip grip for good measure!). It is item G05226 and will be ready and in stock shortly!

The most unusual old Goldblatt tool that I recall was their (I think) 07-449 – which was a jig that clamped onto the edge of a scaffolding plank and allowed you to insert a thin steel rod into the plank using a drill. This added strength (weight too) to the plank and help with cracking. We now use aluminum planks and staging planks – but it was a one-time innovative idea.
