Gyros MagnaLite Pro Cordless LED Work Light Review

Gyros MagnaLite Cordlss LED Work Light

I’ve been using the Gyros MagnaLite Pro cordless LED work light a bit more here and there, enough to form a complete opinion of it.

Build Quality and Features

The Gyros’ MagnaLite Pro LED work light is a lot more durable than I had originally anticipated. It feels solid in-hand, and can endure accidental drops, knocks, and bumps with ease.

The pivoting head is a little stiff to adjust, but this also means that it will stay put once adjusted. The on-button latches with a very satisfying click and has a nice touch. On the bottom of the battery is a magnet strong enough to hold the work light upside down. A plastic cover keeps the magnet from marring delicate work surfaces.

Brightness and LED Quality

36 LEDs provide surprisingly focused and diffuse center spot illumination, with soft but weak side-spill, making it well suited as a general purpose work light. It’s as good as a multi-LED work light can get.

Battery Life

Gyros claims up to 6-hours of use per charge for its 7.2V lithium-ion battery. I have not been keeping track, but I used the MagnaLite Pro for at least 5 hours over a month before I needed to recharge the unit. The cordless battery is user-replaceable, and is charged through a power port on the work light. A small removable plug protects the port from dust and debris, and is stowed on a little holder on the charger’s wire to prevent its loss.

Conclusion

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of multi-LED flashlights or work lights. But, Gyros swayed my stance, at least a little bit; the MagnaLite Pro is a good example of a multi-LED unit done right. Its illumination is even and focused, with very little light wasted to side spill. Its pivoting head and rechargeable battery make the MagnaLite Pro a nice addition to any home, workshop or garage. A minor complaint of the MagnaLite Pro is its ~$45-50 price, but rechargeable lithium ion batteries don’t come cheap.
