Harbor Freight has added a new 4.0Ah battery to their Hercules 12V cordless power tool lineup.
This is not major news, but it’s still an interesting development.
Harbor Freight’s Hercules 12V cordless power tool system is still quite small, with respect to the number of tool and compared to industry leaders such as Dewalt and Milwaukee.

A new Hercules 12V one-handed reciprocating saw launched earlier this year.
Here’s a list of all Hercules 12V tools, batteries, and chargers, as of March 2022:
- 3/8″ drill/driver
- 1/4″ hex cordless screwdriver
- 1/4″ hex Impact driver
- 1/4″ impact wrench
- 3/8″ impact wrench
- Variable speed polisher/sander
- 1/4″ ratchet
- 1/4″ extended reach ratchet
- 3/8″ ratchet
- 3/8″ extended reach ratchet
- 2.0Ah battery
- 4.0Ah battery (NEW)
- USB power source
- 20/12V fast charger
- 20/12V dual port fast charger
Harbor Freight has not yet introduced heavier duty 12V cordless power tools, such as a circular saw, but I’m sure heavier users will appreciate the longer runtime that a 4.0Ah battery pack can provide.
The price seems quite appealing, at just $35.

Hey, with a 3D-printed adapter, this might just be the battery cheap enough to revive some of my old Bosch 12V USA- and Swiss-made cordless tools.
John
It’s just more disposable Chinese junk that will be obsolete by HF in 2 or 3 years. Ryobi may be critiqued for being homeowner grade but their battery system is decades old and supported completely. How many lines of HF tool lines have been introduced and cancelled since?
Nathan
well hercules is what now 4 or 5 years old and it’s their name lead. so I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon.
John
In the hierarchy of tools, can someone name a tool system that harbor freight is better than? I would even take Skil over this…maybe some off brand amazon sold Chinese tools or the random junk you find at the job lot stores…..
Rog
I would 100% take Skil over any of HF’s offerings

you are really slighting Skil here. Skil’s 12v tool line is awesome, and mostly brushless unlike the Hercules tools.

I would probably take an HF offering over something like “Teccpo” or “GardenJoy” despite their thousands of 5-star ratings on Amazon.

do you know some of the bauer/hercules junk come from same skil factory?

Stuart, I don’t see the Hercules 12V Brushless Cordless Compact Reciprocating Saw on your list of released items.
It’s interesting to note that it is the first 12v brushless tool in the Hercules lineup and released in January 2022. Makes since to add the 4ah battery but seems like Harbor Freight is playing catch-up compared to what 12v Dewalt tools launched last year and Lowe’s has had some pretty good Dewalt 12v sales promos.

I’m not convinced that the 4Ah was designed to pair with the one-handed recip saw; I would guess that more heavier duty tools are on the way, similar to what followed after Dewalt launched their 12V Max 5Ah.
