Harbor Freight has revealed their new US General mini tool boxes colors that will be launching for the 2025 holiday shopping season – purple, grey, and lime green.
The discount tool retailer launched their mini tool box in its 3 original colors, red, black, and blue, seemingly in an attempt to copy the huge success Lowe’s had at their own stores with Kobalt mini tool boxes.
The US General tool boxes aren’t just an imitation of Kobalt’s; in my experience they’re a small step up in features (better drawer slides) and build quality.

After Harbor Freight saw frenetic response from customers last year, they made the expected decision to expand their color offerings.

So, this is what you’ll see soon hit stores – purple, grey, and lime green mini tool boxes.
I presume that the new tool boxes will be priced the same – the current lineup of mini tool boxes are $19 each at Harbor Freight stores.

My local stores had already began stockpiling the mini tool boxes in existing colors. By my count, they had 150 of the tool boxes in the original colors in the upper shelves, and that didn’t include the many others that were on the sales floor for immediate purchase.
Harbor Freight had a doorbuster discount on these last year, and they sold completely through – I checked but couldn’t find one to buy.
I think it’s reasonable to expect the same this year – not necessarily doorbuster pricing, but that they’ll sell through.

One more new color is on the way in 2026, but HF has not yet revealed which one customers voted on. See also: Vote for the Next Harbor Freight Mini Tool Box Color.

The discount tool company has also announced that a new color for their US General Series 3 storage cabinets will be launching in 2026. The new color will be revealed next month at SEMA.
I’m guessing it will be purple, which has not yet been added to their current generation of tool cabinets, chests, and accessories but is available in other US General product lines.

The one advantage the Kobalt has is that it has a second, base cabinet. These were a big hit with my wife as she decorated them (with her vinyl cutter) as Singer toolboxes for her quilting family and friends for Christmas presents.
Jason
Agreed. If HF adds a base cabinet I’ll pick those up too.

The Kobalt base-bottoms are a big plus for higher density “small format” storage — I use them for miscellaneous bits and bolts.
The one feature missing is the ability to “stack” multiple bases on top of each other to make a little tower (admittedly, this may not be especially stable beyond a certain point).
Dave
Yes, I hope they launch this addition next.

I was thinking something similar. I never actually bought a mini toolbox despite the temptation, and now the FOMO has dissipated and I feel like the only way I would is if it was a mini tool chest combo – can I get some mini casters too?

Menard’s has theirs on sale for $8.98 – $7.99 after rebate – right now:

Unfortunately it’s the same as the kobalt ones with friction slides.
Mike
Lowe’s released an update that does have drawer slides. I’m not sure if it’s all colors or just the new pastel colors unfortunately.
Mike
I wanted to like the HF mini toolbox, but the drawers only pull out like half way, making it quite difficult to fill the drawers. Lowe’s recently released an updated version of their mini box, which has ball bearing drawer slides. I’m not sure if they’re full extension or drawers or not though.
Jeff
I wish I had saved it but I did see a video somewhere showing how a guy modified the slides on the boxes to allow the drawers to open all the way.
Brandon Boultier
It’s actually really easy.. take the drawers out and on the slides their will be a black plastic “spacer” or “stopper” where the bearings are.. cut each side (front and back) just enough to keep the bearings covered. Re-install and bam, your drawers open up as far as the bottom does
Greg
Hell, I’d be interested in that black and white dazzle paint job in that picture lol
EBT
Yeah! That would cool as heck in the garage.
I’m gonna bet Purple. They are missing that out of their lineup. Or Light Grey. These colors exist on the lower line though, not the Series 3.

Development mule wrap for the win!

I hope harbor freight will make bottom mini tool boxes in every color.
John
Still waiting on a mini drawer toolbox without the hinged top, which I find to be impractical.
Greg
I’m really hoping they make one without a lid so I can stack them

I plan on buying two of these small boxes soon. They are very nice. I just missed their parking lot sale. They were around 12 or 13 dollars. So, I’ll wait until the sale comes up again. Many times, they repeat it the following weekend. But you have to use coupons. Big deal.

I hope the new box color is Multicam

Yeah I remember last holiday season finding ONE blue box for my daughter’s art supplies–her favorite color–and a red for my son. They were flying off the shelves, so I held off on a personal one so others had a chance to grab one.
This year, they’ve been as low as $13.99, so they’re a pretty consistent draw for HF. I might break down and get a couple for myself next time. They’d be a welcome addition to my Yukon tool chests to sit on top of the wood top instead of all the junk I’VE got there now! LOL
Jack D
Well, speak of the devil, This weekend, they’re at $12,99 with coupon. I’m down for that…
