Over at Amazon, this Hitachi 4-1/2″ angle grinder kit, with 5 abrasive wheels and a carrying case, is currently on sale for $30.
If I were looking for a new angle grinder, I can’t say that Hitachi would be at the top of my mind, but I also can’t argue with the low price of this kit. It’s rare to see a pro-brand of angle grinder sell for this little.

The same Hitachi G12SR4 kit is currently priced at $40 at Lowes, $39 at Acme tools, and $50 at Tool Nut.

There are many more options at the $50+ price level. But if $30 is your limit, this grinder’s probably going to be better than most if not all of the other models that are typically priced this low. Personally, I prefer paddle switches over lock-on slide switches, but I know that there are many who prefer this style better.
Update: The price was $29 (11/19), then it was out of stock, then back to $40, and now down to $30 (11/21).

I have two of these. The grinders themselves are okay, but the wheels included are absolute trash and I threw all of them away.
FWIW, I think I paid about $30 around 5 years ago.

I had one tile subcontractor that always bought the cheapest angle grinders he could find. He called them “burners” – I think because he ran them until they burnt out. When I’d see him on a job -I think that he’d always have some new one. In the pipe/metal fabrication shop – we liked Fein and Milwaukee electrics – but they could not hold a candle to the Dotco pneumatics.
Now if Hitachi could offer their sister company’s products at this sort of price point then I might start believing in Santa Claus again

It’s not on sale. It’s $10 more than that. Might want to remove this blog post since it’s not valid.

Hitachi grinders either individually as as a pair 41/2 and 9″ have been the stand out value angle grinders from the specialist tool retailers over here for several years and if I had to buy one they would be on my list as the reports are always good.
With regard to the blades, the accessory on any power tool being where the rubber meets the road can impact the overall performance of the tool either positively or negatively, in this respect I find angle grinder blades to be even more of a lottery than screwdriver bits and saw blades with no consistency even within expensive brand name discs where one pack performs well, lasts well and then the next pack wears out in a tenth of the time.
With saw blades and abrasive discs I do not use no name brands as I put a high value on my eyes and hands however I am beginning to think that there is are a limited number of sources for the discs regardless of label and which have very variable quality control.

I have a several year old Hitachi 5amp grinder. It has many hours of use on it and still works fine.
