Thanks for posting this. Which of the ~$99 drills would you recommend? I was looking at the Makita 18-Volt, Milwaukee M12 combo kit, or the Rigid 12-Volt combo.
Usage would just be typical household chores and I was thinking of building a workbench over the winter and hopefully a deck in the spring. Thanks!

You’re welcome! Takes a while to write out the list and cross-reference to online listings, but I know it’s appreciated and so it’s well worth the effort.
I’d go for that that Milwaukee M12 kit (https://toolguyd.com/milwaukee-m12-drill-impact-battery-kit-bundle-deal-update-112014/), as it’s the most appealing product line to me. Should be plenty powerful enough for the usage you described.

Go with the Milwaukee M12 combo, that’s an amazing value for the price and will be able to handle just about any household chores you put it up to. It will have no problem with your workbench either.

A lot of them are good deals, but there aren’t any real “run out to Home Depot” deals unless you’re looking for a specific type of tool.
For instance, if you’re looking for a bench grinder, the $30 Ryobi model is a great bargain. But if you’re not really interested in a grinder, that deal’s not good enough to convince shoppers to buy one anyway. Certain tools are that good, such as the $99 Milwaukee m12 drill + impact + free bonus battery bundle.

The ad is showing the Bosch 12″ gliding miter saw for $599 (plus free blade) but your text says it’s $499 (plus free blade). Is there some fine print in the ad that’s reducing it another $100?

I’ve checked out the 12″ at a woodworking show and briefly tested a 10″. I plan to test the 10″ more after the new year.
I really like the pivoting motion – it really helps these saws keep a more compact front-back footprint, and the motion is very fluidic.
But the axial glide saws are also heavier than they look, and I believe heavier than traditional sliding miter saws as well. I would say they’re better for shop use than on-the-go.

I never did a side by side weight comparison – but our impression was that they were quite a bit heavier than the Makita sliders that they replaced. We had them mounted on the fold-up gravity rise stands and 2 crew members usually unloaded them from the truck. On long-term jobsites – we often brought a Unisaw too – so we were used to unloading heavy machinery – but for a carpenter who works alone this saw might prove to be a challenge. In my home shop – I used it to replace a somewhat ancient Sears RAS – so while its on a gravity-rise stand – it sits in the unfolded position and is only moved over a bit when in use. Here again my shop is over 2000 square feet – so someone with a small shop – having it folded up might be a different experience.

I’ve noticed that this Bosch 12″ Axial Glide miter saw is now available on Lowes.com for $549.00. They don’t show the price on the product page, but once you add it to the cart, you can see the $549.00. Not sure how long this price is good for.
I’m close to pulling the trigger…but trying to show some discipline to see if it hits $499.

I picked up this saw today at Home Depot. It was $599. I price matched Lowe’s for $549 and since Home Depot has a “meet and beat” price match, I got another 10% off the $549. Home Depot is also offering a free Diablo blade, up to $100 bucks. So, out the door, with tax, I was in for $530 with the saw and blade. That is unbeatable. I have the Milwaukee 12″ Double Bevel sliding that is a beast, but I never truly loved. The space savings are worth it alone, but the Milwaukee just lacks a few things (clamp, dust hose port, and a wonky right side fence that blocks angled cuts) that make it less appealing as time goes on. Putting it up for sale and excited to have the Bosch.

There is very little here that hasn’t been on sale for the last 2 weeks. A lot of the items are just stuff that Home Depot had in their holiday gift section. I know for sure because I bought them already. Then there is a whole slew of stuff that Home Depot had as “1 day” deals,. I remember reading about the $40 shop-vac and the $99 M12 Drill/impact driver deal, and the discount on Dewalt tool cabinets on this very website. The only thing I’ve noticed is the Bosch Spade drill bit set is $5 lower and the Leatherman Wingman is $5 lower (there may be others but I remember the prices on those 2 so they caught my eye). This is not to say that they don’t have some nice combo deals, like I said I’ve bought some already. But there doesn’t seem to be anything to drive the frenzy of Black Friday that they like to show on the news.
So overall the “Black Friday” strategy over at Home Depot (and Lowes too by the way) is to put out a flyer that has the words “while supplies last” splashed over a lot of stuff that they’ve had on sale for 2-3 weeks, and supplies have been lasting… And as memory serves me from years past, the prices really start going down December 26th.

I think that it is a good deal. I bought one last year on Black Friday for $125 from Home Depot and have not seen a better price since. It is currently $159 at Lowes. They are a bit heavy, but they are extremely versatile.

I can’t speak to if it’s a hot deal or not, but I have that Werner 4′ ladder and I love it. If you only have taller ladders, or even a Little Giant-style ladder, I’d still recommend the 4′ ladder… it’s the perfect size for doing things around the house that require getting a little closer to a 8 or 9 foot ceiling, and it’s very light weight and easy to maneuver around the house. I know it looks like a baby ladder, but it’s my most-used indoor ladder.

The only deal I found that i pulled the trigger on was the 36v makita saw for 229. They are giving you 2 18v batteries for free during the holidays making this in my opinion the best deal there.

The 12″ bosch sliding table saw is the best table saw ever made with exception to their new axel glide one. My boss owns one and all the controls are in the front and work awesome. 599 is an awesome deal, my work paid 7 something for it over 2 years ago. Spot on right out of the box and more power than you’ll ever need and it say’s bosch on it so it’s a no brainer. If I didn’t have their 12 inch non slider and could justify needing a bigger one I’d buy it in a heart beat.
