Here’s a sneak preview of some of Home Depot’s Black Friday 2016 Tool Deals!
Home Depot typically closely guards a few secret sale items, which are put on display just days before Thanksgiving Day – under black coverings – and revealed on Black Friday.

A reader (thanks, Anode!) sent us an image of a spreadsheet that a Home Depot manager showed to them*, and it contained a list of some of the special tool-related deals we can expect to see on or around Black Friday.
*Correction: The original source seems to be a GJ member, Tirade. Thanks, Tirade!
Update: Some or all of these deals might go live as part of Home Depot’s Pro Black Friday event, starting Monday 11/14/2016.
Following are the on-sale tools that I could make out from the image. The prices were accurate as of this posting. Maybe they’ll be more deeply discounted around Black Friday?
At least one of these deals was less expensive last year (the Bosch spade bit set), and so I would expect for it to drop in price a little more on or around Black Friday, but some of the other prices are likely to be fixed. The Dewalt tape measure bundle, for example, is probably already priced as low as it will go.
Some of these deals are LIVE now, such as the Dewalt tape measure bundle, which you can purchase online.

A few can already be found on display in the Home Depot holiday tool deals center, but possibly not at their final price.

Milwaukee M18 2689-24P 4-Tool Combo Kit: $299
This mixed Milwaukee M18 cordless power tool combo kit comes with a drill (2606), impact driver (2656), compact Hackzall reciprocating saw (2625), and according to the HD listing, a free jobsite radio (2890).
Those are 1.5Ah compact battery packs.
All of the reviews seem to be aggregated from reviews from other products. One review comes from a review of a different hammer drill, impact driver, Hackzall, and LED flashlight combo kit, and others come from reviews of the individual products.
One of the reviews says: The drill has a lot of power, the hammer function works great. The hackzall is the perfect size. But keep in mind that that’s a different drill, and that other kit comes with M18 XC 3.0Ah battery packs, which often give drills and impact drivers a boost of up to 10% more power.
Home Depot thinks this is an okay practice, but I think it’s potentially misleading, and I told them as much.
This kit doesn’t seem to have been reviewed before, and the Milwaukee model number, 2689-24P, basically only turns up Home Depot pages in a Google search. In other words, it’s a new kit likely put together for Home Depot for the 2016 holiday shopping season.
Makita 18V XT505 5-Tool Combo Kit: $379 $299
This seemingly fully equipped kit comes with a hammer drill, impact driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw, xenon flashlight, charger, carrying bag, and (2) 3.0Ah battery packs.

This kit comes with a NON-LED flashlight (xenon bulb), and 3.0Ah battery packs, but at least the batteries look to have on-board fuel gauges.
There are zero reviews on Amazon, and zero reviews on Home Depot’s website, suggesting that this kit was specially put together for the holiday shopping season.
Avanti Pro 7-1/4″ Framing Blade 4-Pack: $15
These 24T Avanti Pro 7-1/4″ framing blades are already on display in the Home Depot tool deals center. They’re said to be suitable for cutting hardwood, softwood, and plywood.
The claim is that you get 4 blades for the price of 2.
Diablo Bi-Metal and Carbide Tipped Hole Saw Set: $40
This set, also already on the sales floor in the holiday tool deals section, comes with 4 bi-metal hole saws plus 1 carbide-tipped hole saw (2″), 1 mandrel, 1 pilot bit, and 2 adapter nuts.
Klein Combo Set
Note: This is NOT the kit that’s on sale. This is what last year’s special Klein Electrician Tool Test bundle looked like. That was a 6-piece kit.
We already talked about a new Klein electrician’s tool set for this year, but it looks like there will be another promo kit.
Update: Here it is:
Klein Tools 7pc Electrician’s Wiring and Testing Kit: $50
This year’s bundle is slightly different than last year’s. In this year’s kit, the diagonal pliers are replaced with electrician’s scissors and a stubby multi-bit screwdriver.
Milwaukee M-Spector 3ft Inspection Scope Kit: $100 $70
(Powered by 9V battery.)
This seems like a nice no-frills inspection scope at very attractive pricing. I imagine that the grip will be slightly smaller than if it were instead powered by an M12 battery pack.
It features a 2.7″ LCD display, 320 x 240 pixel resolution, 3ft flexible cable with 9mm diameter head, 4 LEDs for shadow-free illumination, and pipe guide attachment for easier routing through pipes. Compatible Milwaukee hook, magnet, and mirror attachments are sold separately.
Dewalt DWHT74441Q 25′ and 16′ Tape Measure Set: $20
This set is different than the 25′ tape measure 2-pack, as they’re “built in the USA” with global materials. I bought one of the 25′ tape measures recently, and it’s definitely a small but noticeably step better than the tape included in the 25′ 2-pack bundle.
The 25′ tape is normally priced at $20, and so is the 16′. A quick test at the store convinced me enough to buy a 25′ tape for use and potential review. I’m definitely going to order one of these 25′ and 16′ promo packs (if i remember to). You can see the 25-footer in my Home Depot Holiday Deal Center Haul image:
That 2-pack in the haul image is the other 25′ promo pack I mentioned.
Dewalt 72pc MaxFit Screwdriver Bit Set: $20
There’s not a lot of variety, but you get a bunch of Phillips, slotted, square, and Torx bits.
These Dewalt MaxFit bits can be used in your drill and impact driver, but they probably won’t last as long as true impact-specialized bits. For primarily impact driver use, look at Dewalt’s FlexTorq line.
Milwaukee 23pc Shockwave RedHelix Titanium Drill Bit Set: $35 $17.47
Milwaukee Shockwave RedHelix impact-rated drill bits perform pretty well. That means a lot coming from me, because I don’t often like using hex-shanked drill bits, and especially not in an impact driver.
Bosch 10pc Daredevil Spade Drill Bit Set: $15 $9.97
This set dropped in price to $10 right before Black Friday last year.
As far as paddle bits go, Bosch’s Daredevil bits are really good. They have a self-feeding screw tip, which makes them a little more aggressive than regular spade bits, requiring a little more drilling power in my experience, but they leave pretty clean holes.
I’ve steered away from spade bits in favor of other styles that work better for my needs, but when I’ve got to use one, I like these better.
It looks like Empire is combining one of these 9″ torpedo levels with…
one of these rafter squares. Or not. This is what we know:
Empire 9″ torpedo level and 7″ aluminum rafter square combo, SKU 292-216. I’m assuming it’s a combination promo pack, rather than a “buy one get one free” such as these.

Rigdid R4020 7″ Wet Tile Saw: $189 $99.88
I guess this saw will be on sale at a lower price?
Ridgid R4122 12″ Dual Bevel Miter Saw: $299 $199
This looks like a basic model, but it still offers plenty. It’ll be interesting to see if the price dips any lower for the holidays.
Dewalt DW745 10″ Portable Table Saw: $299
Also discussed in our Best Black Friday 2016 table saw deals post.
This is one of the best portable table saw deals out there, with great bang for the buck.

Dewalt DW716 12″ Double Bevel Miter Saw: $329 $299
There’s also an XPS version of this saw, with cross-cut lighting system, but it’ll cost you $51 more.
If the choice comes down to Ridgid’s 12″ saw for $299 or this one for $329, I’d go with this Dewalt. Either way, you’ll want to replace the stock blade with something better.

Dewalt DWX725B Heavy Duty Work Stand with Tool Mounting Brackets: $119 ($110 at Amazon)
This is a great work stand or metal saw horse that doubles as a miter saw stand. Or slap some plywood and mount whatever you want.
In a pinch I temporarily mounted a vise to the workstand, and it was sturdy enough for my needs.

Dewalt DWFP12233 18 Gauge Air Brad Nailer: $99
This looks to be the same as the “Precision Point” air nailer that were announced back in 2015. The special tip, which aims to make it easier for you to see what you’re nailing, is now described as being a “True Sight” tip.
If you want a Dewalt brad nailer with a regular style tip, you can find the previous generation model for as little as $69 or so.

Ridgid R350RHF Round Head Air Framing Nailer: $229 $169
Ridgid OF60150HA 6 Gallon Pancake-Style Air Compressor: $129 $99
Is it me, or does this Ridgid 6 gallon pancake-style air compressor look a little taller and narrower compared to other models? I’m intrigued.
The reviews all seem to be from the past few months, so this is a relatively new model. A search of my inbox tells me it was first announced at the end of September.
Quick Specs:
- 150 PSI
- 12 Amps
- Air Delivery: 3.5 SCFM at 40 PSI, 2.6 SCFM at 90 PSI
- 6 Gallons air capacity
- Oil-Free
- 2 universal quick couplers accept 1/4″ automotive and industrial fittings
Porter Cable PCFP12234 6 Gallon Air Compressor with Nailer and Stapler Combo Kit: $199
Are you surprised? Neither are we. This Porter Cable air compressor and nailer starter set seems to be a very popular holiday season staple. At just under $200, it provides DIYers with a good starting point.

There’s also a Bostitch version of combo, with a slightly different air compressor and similar-looking tools, also at $199 via Amazon.
Porter Cable C2002 6 Gallon Pancake Style Air Compressor: $99
If you just need an air compressor to power a trim nailer or for casual home or work use, you can’t do much better than this one for under $100.

If you prefer Bostitch, Amazon also has the Bostitch 6 gallon pancake air compressor on sale for the same $99 promo price.
Dewalt DWFP1450D PVC and Rubber 50-Foot Air Hose: $20
This is said to be a premium air hose made from a hybrid PVC and rubber blend. It’s supposed to stay flexible in extreme temperatures and reinforced for use at up to 300 PSI.
If I were looking for a new air hose, I’d go for a Tekton air hose, or Goodyear. Tekton’s USA-made hoses would be my first choice. Here’s more on the Goodyear hoses, and more on the Tekton brand
Nate818
Doesn’t seem so good this year.
Stuart
There are more to come, such as $99 drill kits, Ryobi combos, cheap ladders, and I’m sure a Ridgid vac.
Ryan
I also heard there may be a $599 deal on the top of the line flexvolt miter saw kit
Stuart
I see that in my saved adscan. There’s also a “free FlexVolt battery with FlexVolt tool kit” promo that the saw
looksdoes not look to be eligible for.JC
Can you confirm that this is an actual deal ($599 +additional flexvolt battery) as it may be just the thing to tip me to the flexvolt miter over the m18 miter. I wish the deal was on the fixed flexvolt miter but i guess the slider will work 🙂
Stuart
On closer inspection, I’m not convinced that the FlexVolt miter saw is eligible for the free battery promo.
In the ad itself, there’s a black order around the FlexVolt miter saw deal, and then a message about a free battery with tool kit, and red border around the other tools.
There are HD listings showing the free battery offerings, and the miter saw is not among them.
HD FlexVolt Bonus Battery Deals
We won’t know for sure until just before Black Friday, but I feel more confident in assuming it will NOT be eligible for a free FV battery.
Adam
If you can, grab the M18 miter saw with the M18 OneKey Fuel Kit. It will take $200 off the total. Then think about if you want to keep the Fuel Kit 😉 . I didn’t.

The Heavy-Duty Aluminum PRO Slim-Fold Work Platform with 300 lbs. Load Capacity (GLA-47PRO) for $27.88 is/was a great HD Pro pre-black Friday deal.
Chewed on picking up one of these folding work platforms for a few years, now I glad I waited as this has been the best overall I’ve seen. The 3.4″ folded width is awesome and the spring loaded locking legs makes it safer as well.
Stuart
Agreed!
I’ve been testing the regular model and like it a lot more than I anticipated. I have a post about the Pro model deal on my to-do list for tonight if I can get to it.
Link.
I was also waiting to hear back from Gorilla Ladders. I couldn’t understand why the standard model cost more than the Pro model that has a higher load rating.
Jonathan
If it is the 250# model supposed to be a HD BF deal at $18.88, I looked at that and the 375# fiberglass (not on ad) and the Lowe’s 225# Werner BF that is only 3.25′ for $19.98 BF and the 300# GLA-47PRO for $27.88 is just right and completes my ladder/scaffold work needs for the present.
Stuart
Yes, the standard/ 250 lb model is $19 for Black Friday.

I was looking at Busch’s spade set today because my Irwins are beyond dull. Is there a specific purpose or application for spade bits besides needing a larger diameter? I’m asking because that daredevil set comes with 1/2″ and smaller which typically come in most bit sets…
Stuart
I’ve found that smaller diameter spade bits start more precisely, due to the piercing point shape, but good Brad point drill bits are even better.
I’ve used 7/16″ spades, but I don’t think I’ve used the other sizes under 1/2″. If I had, it wasn’t notable.
fred
Spade bits have another interesting use. You can grind an appropriately sized one down to bore a tapered hole for holding candles.
Toolfreak
Be warned, Home Depot has a long track record of sending Cease & Desist letters to the owners of websites who post anything about their Black Friday deals ahead of the official release of the BF ad. They apparently even have a special team of people and a law firm hired just for that purpose. I’ve gotten so sick of it that I just don’t shop at HD on Black Friday , and as little as possible in general.
Stuart
It seems these deals start going live tonorrow. And from what I gather, a HD manager showed this to a customer and allowed the snapshot.
I’ve seen the cease and desists some adscan sites received in the past. Last year, possibly the year before too, I don’t remember, the ad wasn’t leaked or officially released until just before Thanksgiving.
Judging by the quality of the images just have, I think I ended up just posting images from the official sales flyer. It looks like that’ll be the case again this year.
Nobody at HD ever complained about my Black Friday coverage before, and I’m sure they know how to reach me if they really wanted to.
Noah
Any thoughts on that Dewalt hot glue gun they’re pushing?
Stuart
The one I mentioned in the hand tools roundup?
https://toolguyd.com/home-depot-hand-tool-deals-dewalt-milwaukee-husky-h2016/
Might be worth a try? It looks suitable for casual use, but for regular use I’d look at something a little better, or perhaps even cordless.
Noah
Yeah that’s the one. Guess I skimmed that post too fast the first time.
For $20 I think I’ll I’ve it a go.
fm2176
It’s not bad. I picked one up on clearance last year…it was a Special Buy with two trigger clamps and set me back all of $10. It works for my needs, heats up quickly, and doesn’t make a mess.
Josh
FYI Home Depot is selling the Dewalt miter saw (DW716) as a bundle with the stand for $299. I bought this bundle last year and can’t recommend it enough. The stand is great for a homeowner with limited space and folds up for easy storage. The saw just feels incredibly more solid than the rigid and the inclusion of the stand made it a no brainer for me.
