I noticed there are 2 cordless Ryobi sets that include a circular saw and a drill.

One is $50, the other $80. I can’t tell the difference, except that the more expensive one might include an extra battery.

by the way, not sure if this was posted on toolguyd already.

For Ryobi tools, there’s a tiered discount thing for “friends and family,” depending on how much you spend.

The $50 kit is not the normal starter set and mentions a 3/8″ drill with the circ saw but does not mention how many batteries (if any) are included. It looks like the $90 kit is the standard one that’s always been available in-stores.

I was at HD on BF and the cheaper $50 kit only had one battery. The standard $90 kit has 2 batteries and a carrying case.

The drill part numbers were also different. I didn’t make note because I didn’t plan to buy either set.

I actually purchased then returned the $50 set. The differences between that/and the $90 set is that, as you pointed out, the $50 set only includes one battery. The drill is also Ryobi’s 3/8″ model while the costlier set has a 1/2″ drill.

The 3/8″ drill is sold separately for $40 while the saw with added laser sells for $60 or so. The set is a great bargain; but I returned it without opening it – details will be posted later.

The only thing I got was the $20 Ridgid shop vac. By comparison the Lowe’s shop vac for $30 had a smaller capacity, and less horsepower, so I think the Ridgid is
a pretty good deal (also lifetime warranty compared to 3 yrs).

I got to HD 12 minutes after they opened and saw a guy driving away with 2 vacs in his truck.

When I got inside every person had at least one in their cart.

I had tried to get the Ridgid vac midday and was told that it had sold out by 8am. The thing is, most of the specially priced shop vacs at all the various stores are under-featured products. Not crippled per se, but under-featured. The Ridgid at least seemed to break from that mold, which I suppose is why it sold out so quickly.
