Home Depot stores have finally set up their pre-Black Friday 2019 tool deals and “special buys.” Some stores have also started putting their Pro Black Friday 2019 tool deals on the sales floor, although the lowest pricing has not yet been activated.
Due to the timing of Halloween and a later Thanksgiving this year, Home Depot stores have been slow to put out their 2019 holiday “Special Buy” tool section.
I checked out two different Home Depots on Monday the 4th, and one was just clearing out the space for the deals and the other was maybe 2/3rds finished setting up the displays. Stuart was seeing a similar delay. I was able to go back Tuesday to get a better look, though.

Many of Home Depot’s Black Friday and Holiday season tool deals are very similar to last year’s, but there are some new deals to be had too. Every year each Home Depot seems to carry their own mix of deals, so you might need to visit several stores to find all the deals you are looking for.
As in past years, many prices will probably creep down as Thanksgiving and Black Friday weekend nears. Unless you need something now, the smart money is on waiting. The displays marked “Special Buy” are unlikely to see further discounting.
I’ve organized the tools into the following categories and am only going to talk about the products we think are worth consideration or keeping an eye on.

Last year I had a Tool Storage and Organization category, but from what I saw, the selection this year is very limited this, and so I didn’t include it. We might see some more deals emerge as Black Friday nears. As the Pro Black Friday 2019 tool deals sell out, or are moved to other locations, perhaps more tool storage deals will take their place.

Interestingly, last year they initially started offering these batteries at $139 then lowered them for Black Friday and before Christmas. Does this mean they might go even lower this year?
It’s worth remembering these are not the top-of-the-line batteries from either of these manufacturers, but if you just need to up your battery count, they aren’t bad deals.

At least at one of my local stores, they have a Makita 18V 6.0Ah battery 2-pack for $179, which is not a bad price. The online price still shows $299.

As is the case ever year, Home Depot also has a Ryobi 18V 4.0Ah battery 2-packs for $99. The difference this year is that they are the black-bodied P145 batteries when they have been the silver-bodied P192 Lithium+ HP batteries in the past.

This isn’t really a deal on these two M18 CP3.0 High Output batteries, but it is one to watch. Acme Tools has this pair of batteries for $119 right now, and I’d hope Home Depot will go lower than that for Black Friday.

Milwaukee M12 XC 3.0Ah Battery 2-Pack
They had a 2-pack of Milwaukee M12 XC 3.0Ah batteries for $99.
$99 is standard for these M12 3.0Ah 6-cell batteries, although they started out at $89 last year. We would expect for the price to drop a little in the near future.

Dewalt 20V Max Compact 3.0Ah Battery 2-Pack
I spied these Dewalt 20V Max 3.0Ah compact batteries with no price on them. After digging around on the Home Depot site, I found them for $99, which seems like an okay deal.

There weren’t any good Dewalt FlexVolt battery deals I could find. Well I did see a display of 9Ah FlexVolt batteries, but they were priced at $200. Given the better deals we’ll hopefully see this season, it didn’t even seem worth wasting the load time for a photo.

Ridgid JobMax Multi-Tool Kit
No this is not a cordless tool — but it’s one of the few exceptions. This Ridgid JobMax corded multi-tool with oscillating tool head might be a good way to get into the JobMax ecosystem. Right now it’s $79 supposedly down from $99, but I can’t find proof that it was ever at that price. This might be one to watch for in the after-Christmas clearance.
Makita 12V Max CXT Cordless Power Tools
It looks like this season might be a good chance to get some of Makita’s CXT 12V cordless power tools for less. You can get a Makita cordless drill and impact driver combo kit with 2 batteries, charger, and a case for $99.
If you have already bought into Makita’s 12V Max CXT system you can grab a 3/8″ impact wrench or 3-3/8″ circular saw for $59. Both are bare tools.

Dewalt Atomic Cordless Power Tools
Several Dewalt Atomic tools found their way to the Holiday deals section this year. The drill kit, impact kit, and bare oscillating tool are priced at $99 each. The new Dewalt Atomic reciprocating saw and circular saw bare tools are $129 each.
They had a Dewalt Atomic cordless drill and impact driver combo kit for $179. The kits come with two 1.3 Ah batteries and charger.

This Milwaukee magnetic tape measure 2-pack looks like a pretty good deal – you get two for the price of one. Normally these run about $20 each.
These are Milwaukee’s compact tape measures. On the plus side, they’re a lot quieter to use than Milwaukee’s nylon-coated premium tape measures.

Empire Level 2pc Promo Bundle
Here’s an Empire 48″ and 24″ aluminum I-beam level set for $25 — the same price as the 48″ level alone.
Last year’s Empire 48″ and 24″ level bundle deal was priced at $20 for the Pro Black Friday sales event. Last year’s deal featured slightly different levels, but a search of both styles turned up comparably-priced models.
Empire Level Torpedo Level and Rafter Square Bundles
Empire’s two-for-$10 measuring tools deal is back. You can get two made-in-USA torpedo levels, or a square and a level.
I couldn’t find the typical bundle of two squares but maybe a display will turn up later in the season or in a different aisle. I always pick up the two squares for $10, because squares seem to be like tape measures, you can never find one when you need it.

Klein Electrical Tool Bundles
These two tool kits from Klein look to be a way to save money compared to buying the same tools separately. For instance, looking online the dual range non-contact voltage tester is at least $20 by itself. And I can’t tell without the packaging, but it looks like the driver is the 11-in-1 which sells for $15 alone.

Obviously the above list of deals is not comprehensive. They are just some of the tool deals that we think are most interesting and should be watched over the coming weeks for price drops. For instance, I didn’t even cover the 20+ some displays of gloves and other clothing, the questionable LED lights and flashlights, or the endless displays of Husky mechanics tools.

Despite them being listed as unavailable on the website, my HD has them stored on an overstock shelf in a brown cardboard box with a hand written SKU # and “New Product”. I just had an employee grab one out of the box for me. Just have them look up the SKU on their hand held, they may actually have them. They also may not.

That Ryobi ‘deal’ is weird.
Home Depot accidentally/temporarily had a Ryobi $99 2-pack of 3.0 AH HP batteries, charger + two free bare tools (like jigsaw, multi tool, work light, grease gun, etc) listed on their website yesterday. At least a dozen different combos of starter kit plus two different tools for $99. I tried to add one to a cart and an error came up. The listings are all gone today.
A similar $149 starter kit + a single bare tool shows up today. I can’t imagine somebody went to all the trouble of making all of those other detailed listings if something similar weren’t coming.

If you search on (Internet 308056104) for the Ryobi starter set with two 3.0 batteries and their little charger + bag, at $149, you can get certain tools free. Mkae sure it is the P166 kit and not the P165 kit. It’s nowhere as good as their Father Day’s promotion, where I think the kit was $99 and the tool selection was a lot more diverse. The best “free” tool was the 7″ Brushless Circular Saw. The starter kit was internet only. Hopefully something better will be coming for Black Friday, with the offer being available in stores.

I have a corded Makita belt sander and pad sander that I beat to death finishing raw oak flooring in my whole house more than two decades ago. They still both run.
A year ago I bought the 18volt cordless brushless drill/driver and are very pleased With its performance. They are well built.

I’m sure it could $99 someday, but it’s still too new right now. You can watch for other promos on it too. I bought mine for $149 + a free 2.0 DCB203 battery. Returned the battery for $55, so the saw only cost $94.

When you purchase the special buy items, rather than one item showing up as free, they both ring up at a discounted price (in my case the saw went from $149 to $94 and the battery went from $89 to $55, for a total discount of $89 i.e. the price of the battery). You can then return one of the items to essentially get the other one at a discounted price. I’m not sure if they like when you do it, but I’ve never had an issue with it.

At Home Depot Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Ridgid, and Ryobi all have buy a battery charger kit, get a free tool. All but Ryobi have a buy a big combo kit $400+ and get two free tools.

FYI – what’s the difference between silver Ryobi P192 batteries and black P145 batteries? HP Technology. Silver batteries have it, black ones do not.
What is HP Technology? I have no idea. But I watched a 2 minute Youtube video that said HP Technology works w/ Ryobi Brushless tools to increase power, longevity etc etc.
However, looking at Homedepot.com, HP Technology does not work w/ Brushless lawn and garden tools.
Looking at ryobiTools.com, I can’t even find p145 as a stand-alone, only as a 2-pack. I wonder what that means?
Finally, according to HD.com, the silver P192 packs recharge in 80 minutes whereas the black P145 packs take 50 minutes. Not sure what to make of that as they’re both 4ah packs.

the p145 packs have been around for at least a few years but they are only sporadically available. It originally shipped only with a particular high draw tool — I think it was the impact wrench? My understanding is that they have a higher current available. Not as good as the 3-6-9ah new packs, but better than the other 4ah.
Testing has been done but because the packs aren’t usually individually available they haven’t gotten much scrutiny.

So, it probably delivers greater current to certain brushless tools?
If it’s the same price, I don’t see the downside in going with the updated batteries.

It’s not just the “HP Technology” but also that the P192 are Lithium+ (plus!) while the P145 are “just” Lithium (no plus!).
I couldn’t find the marketingese to explain it, but that + is a real differentiator. 3ah+ packs with the plus (regardless of the later “HP” feature) drive my lawn tools substantially better than the previous non-plus black models.
I wouldn’t spend money on the black non-plus models any longer, they just don’t compare.

The Diablo metal diamond cutoff wheels are amazing, I bought one recently and feel $15 for one is more than fair. I going to load up on those in the two pack. I usually also get whatever Diablo circular saw blades are 2 for 1.
I have been slowly making my two (very small) kids each an all-USA basic toolset, usually with holiday buys. Each will get an Empire level/square combo for each.
I use DeWalt for my primary heavy use power tools, but I have a growing number of Ryobi tools that fill the gaps for things I rarely use. I have the DeWalt power station, but if the 150w Ryobi inverter is available for “free” with a battery two-pack I am going to buy one.
There are a few things in the holiday section I will get if they drop in price. Kreg Rip-Cut would be one. Also either Atomic saw. I already have the Bosch Flexiclick. If I did not, I would strongly consider the holiday kit for the M12 competitor. Much of this seems to be substantially similar each year now, but it is great time to buy consumables and the odd discounted tool. I really look forward to what KC Tools offers since that is different every year and usually includes a lot of things I decide to order.

I have the Ryobi 150w inverter from last year’s battery deal. Having tried it a bit, I’d be cautious about plugging anything sensitive to power quality into it – trying it with a CCFL lamp showed a lot of flicker and off-color light. It would be interesting to get someone with strong electronics testing chops to see how stable the power output from it actually is.
I’d like to try the Dewalt power station myself as an alternative, but don’t have the investment into the battery ecosystem to make it make sense (yet).

I was just at one my local HD stores and I found the new Milwaukee Super Charger bundled with one 8.0Ah HO battery in the same blister pack. The Milwaukee item number is: 48-59-1880SC, the store sku: 1004522893. They had yet to post a price on this display but when I asked an associate to scan the item for a price he said it was $199. However, when I looked it up on the HD website, it shows $299 so the sale price might vary from area to area.

They only had three of these in stock and on display when I was there, and a quick check online showed that all the stores nearby only had two or three in stock as well. So go online to HD and search the sku listed above for all the stores in your area and you should be able to see who has it listed in stock. Just know that even if you find several local stores showing a few in stock, this time of year it may not be easy to locate once you are in the store. If you really want it you may have to push a little to get a HD associate to do the work of finding one for you.
