Home Depot’s PRO Black Friday 2018 tool deals event starts Monday, 11/12/2018. While the sale pricing has not yet been revealed for many of the items, at least we now know what most of the deal items will be.
I’ll update the post as early as I can on Monday.

Please note that the sale pricing won’t kick in before 11/12/2018! Some of the deals are already live, and I’ve speculated where reasonable predictions can be made based on historical sales events of this nature.
Update (11/12/18): Prices are in, and sales are live!!

Milwaukee PRO Black Friday 2018 Tool Deals
There’s a great deal on the Milwaukee M18 0880-2oP cordless HEPA-rated wet/dry vacuum. It comes with the vac plus an M18 5.0Ah XC battery and a charger.
The starter kit retails for $139, but will soon be a $99 special. Still, that’s a $99 cordless vac plus a $99 on-sale 5Ah battery and charger starter kit.
Sale Price: $149
Acme Tools and Tool Nut have the same deal, and it’s already live. Home Depot’s deal is available in-store, but not online yet. This is going to be a HOT deal, given its value.
Also, this is the updated vac – more on that in a separate post.

Milwaukee’s M18 5.0Ah XC battery pack and charger starter set is displayed in the holiday tool deals section, alongside cordless power tool battery 2-packs that typically sell for $99. So, we strongly suspect that this battery and charger duo will also retail for that price.
That would be a great price on a 5Ah battery pack and charger combo, and I’d expect it to sell particularly well.
In this same Pro Black Friday 2018 display, there are bare tools, mainly Milwaukee M18 saws.
Will the starter set drop to its Black Friday price? OR will there be some kind of “buy this, get that” promo? We really won’t know until Monday.

There’s a new Milwaukee Shockwave 50pc impact duty screwdriver bit set on sale this year. Or at least I believe it’s new – its model number (48-32-4024) isn’t showing up in any of my records.
It’s a 50pc set with a few drill bits, screwdriver insert bits, screwdriver power bits, nut drivers, and even a socket adapter. In other words, it’s a little of everything – a Milwaukee Shockwave sampler kit if you will.

The pricing doesn’t make sense. $119 for the battery and charger starter kit, or $119 for a complete hammer drill kit that gives you more for the money?
Looking at Amazon, the DCB230C starter set is $80 via Amazon directly, and even a little lower via 3rd party sellers. I’d say that Home Depot will likely match that price. $80 for the battery and charger set and $119 for the hammer drill combo kit (or maybe even a little lower) makes more sense.

Ridgid PRO Black Friday 2018 Tool Deals
Similar to last year, there’s a Ridgid 6 gallon air compressor, OF60150HB. Last year’s sale price on the OF60150HA was $99. (It’s unclear as to what might have been changed compared to last year’s model.)

There’s a Ridgid JobMax 4A corded oscillating multi-tool kit on sale. I kept reading the display as “free tool head,” but couldn’t find them. Whoops, you get the “tool-free head,” and not a free tool head. Still, $79 is a good price for an oscillating multi-tool that can be converted into a new tool when attached to a different JobMax tool attachment.

Bosch PRO Black Friday 2018 Tool Deals
They have a Bosch 6pc Daredevil spade drill bit set, for $10. I’m hoping that the price drops down a little, since this isn’t as good a deal as last year’s.
The stores in my area have huge quantities – from 65 to 180 in stock. If they can get the price-per-bit as low as last year’s deal, I’d be in for a couple of these sets. They’re great bits, and I use them in projects and for testing drills and drivers.

Great overview. Thanks. I didn’t notice the duct tape at my store. They had a 2 pack of 3M duct tape for for 7.97$. I’m not sure how that holds up to the Nashua heavy duty tape.
I picked up a couple rolls since I’m running low, and I also thought I should keep one in the tool box for the car.
This leads me to question. Is it ok to store duct tape in a tool box in a car in the winter time? Will all the freezing and thawing of a Michigan winter affect the tape?
I’m guessing it should be alright, but I’ve never thought about it before.

Temperature wouldn’t have any effect

I hope we actually get the PackOut containers in-store. We never seem to get them in stock in our local store. Definitely going for the AAA and AA batteries.
A number of other items look great too. I grabbed the aluminium platform deal last year and I will tell you if you have thought about, do it. I use mine all the time for everything around the gaff. Handy beyond description.
Travis
Agree on that Gorilla work platform. I picked up one last year and have used it non stop. I will be sure to grab two more this year. Fantastic for painting and even great to use when working on heavy equipment. Keeps tools and parts at a nice level. Also used it a bunch for electrical work.
Matthew
My local HD had 60 packs of the HDX batteries. If you’re not brand specific that’s a good deal.
Toolfreak
I don’t shop HD on Black Friday since they are so consumer-hostile about the whole thing. This year they even sent out preemptive cease-and-desist letters warning blogs and reviewers and sites not to post about their products or deals until they are publicly released.
I guess Toolguyd gets a pass since there is an agreement with HD to review/market tools, or maybe they actually can’t do much about someone posting images anyone could have taken with their cel phone, but I still think the way they do business is pretty stupid, threatening the people that are basically giving them free advertising.
About all I do is pick up any after-holiday bargains when they’re at insanely low prices.
stotea
HD does that every year.
Toolfreak
This is the first year they’ve sent threats out before anyone even did a single thing.
Stuart
Thankfully, I’ve never heard from Home Depot about our Black Friday or PRO Black Friday coverage.
My local Home Depot had their PRO Black Friday 2018 displays out in the open. It’s not like the displays were wrapped in black plastic as some doorbusters typically are just before Black Friday.
There’s no “pass” for us, or special treatment of any kind.
Mattd
Last year or the year before I remember u posting their add and then having to take it down.
Stuart
That was done pre-emptively as soon as someone mentioned that deals sites were getting C&Ds for posting advanced copies of the sales flyer.
jayne
A nice selection of tools and junk. This a great time to get tools. I may get the duct tape. Thank you
Aaron
HD won’t match internet pricing from Amazon. I bought a 20v max dewalt sawzall bare tool at full price $129 then a week later saw it on amazon for $78 and HD.com for $99. They would only price match their online store and I got $30 back. Still glad to get the savings. The in store price was still $129.
stotea
Was it actually SOLD BY Amazon, though? That’s usually a requirement for any store price matching Amazon. Regardless, I’ve had issues with HD price matching even Lowes, Menards, and Fleet Farm prices. They just really don’t want to do it sometimes.
TZi
Might drop by and pick up the new Dewalt MaxFit 110pc screwdriver bit set sometime. Already have quite a lot of unused bits from buying bit sets for the cases, but that new case design looks interesting. Looks similar to the new cases that they also use for Craftsman, and seems like they may have finally made a case with the bits easier to put back in.
Paul Campbell
No guards on a grinder? At most of the more “progressive” plants around here (chemical plants, mines, refineries, tire plants), you would be thrown out and your company banned from working there again if you tried to use a grinder without a guard. This is in North Carolina, the South, where we’re not exactly known for doing things safely mind you. In addition many of them don’t allow cutoff saw blades less than a certain diameter except the steel diamond ones.
The problem is every so often due to undetectable defects in the blade compounding a defect can happen which causes the saw blade to fly apart. Or if you accidentally or purposely try to grind (cut sideways) it breaks off pieces of the blade that eject from the tool. It is impossible for the blade manufacturer to detect it. In fact one of the things every guy I know does when using one is whenever you change the blade, hold the grinder away from you and spin it all the way up to the highest speed and watch to see if the blade wobbles or flies apart before use.
Getting a blade piece embedded in a leg or an arm is a common injury especially among steel workers. Had many friends get hit. It goes very deep so bleeding out is a risk never mind the time and cost and lost work involved. It doesn’t happen all the time but I’d say probably one out of every 10 times I’ve used mine especially if I use the blade down to the bitter end because I’m too lazy to change to a new one. But since I’d get us run off for not using it on many sites, I keep the stupid guard on and have never had an issue.
The reason you may not see guards is because that other than concrete saws which really can only be used one way, you use these tools at almost any angle and the guard gets in the way depending on how you are using it, so you have to rotate it around to cover yourself at almost every task. It takes time to unlock, rotate, and relock it which most guys aren’t willing to do so they take it off. That doesn’t mean it isn’t an important safety item when using one.
Every grinder I’ve ever had or bought came with a guard, whether of the 4/5″ variety or the 7/9/12″ sizes. It would be financially suicidal (class action territory) to sell one without a guard. So my suspicion isn’t that you’ve bought one that didn’t come with a guard but that the owner probably threw it away on day one.
Stuart
That’s not what I meant.
Very many of the cordless cut-off tools and angle grinders come with a grinding wheel guard, and that’s it. Finding a cut-off wheel guard can require some deep searching online, trying to find an obscure part number that none of your favorite stores carry.
A cut-off wheel guard (type 1) is more enclosed than a grinding wheel guard (type 27) surrounding cut-off wheels on the bottom as well as the side. Grinding wheel guards are open on the bottom.
This is one of those things that really grabs my attention in a very positive way.
fred
The Makita parts list for the tool does indeed show 2 different guards:
Part # 126687-1 and Part # 126686-3
It does not call out either one as being sold as options – so my take is that they are included.
MT_Noob
I checked out the BL grinder that was tool only in the Makita section. It also had the dual gaurds. If they have any specials on that item as tool only I think I’ll grab one.
MT_Noob
I ended up getting one of the combo kits and grinder did indeed come with both a guard for cut-off wheels and another guard for grinding. The only annoyance is that the cut-off wheel guard requires a screwdriver for adjustment and the grinding wheel guard had a no tool needed lever adjustment. But indeed it is great to have both of them supplied with the grinder.
Rich L Schoonover
Buy Metabo, best guard I’ve seen. It has a locking rotating guard,
Tom
+1. Metabo still makes the best corded grinders out there in my opinion. The ones with the ball bearings to reduce vibration are amazing. Less white knuckle and longer wheel life on the abrasives you already use.
Doresoom
That M18 5Ah battery and charger kit includes the Rapid Charger, which is typically more expensive than the standard charger too.
I also found this really good deal on 142 Shockwave bits for $30 when browsing the HD website earlier: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-SHOCKWAVE-IMPACT-DUTY-Driver-Bit-Set-142-Piece-48-32-4075/305227364
Not sure if that one’s online only or also in-store some places.
ktash
I bought those recently at my local hd, but still mulling over whether to return it. It has a lot of the 1″ bits and not much variety. Since the cases are modular, I can add some different things to it. I do like the shockwave bits in general.
Stuart
This kit has a lot of Phillips #2 (20 insert bits), but also a bunch of convenient hex and Torx bits to have around.
I was recently picking up supplies for more drill testing, and couldn’t find any T25 power bits, or T30 bits of any kind. I didn’t want to have to rely on my ability to find enough bits at home (I’m still working on organizing everything), and so I had to choose different screws because the GRK ones I wanted needed the T30. I have T25 at home, but needed a couple (5+). I ordered bulk packs of T20 and T25 online, but it wouldn’t arrive in time for when I wanted testing to be completed by.
My store also didn’t have T15 Shockwave bits, and so I ended up going with Phillips Spax instead of GRK cabinet screws.
It seems like the set could come in handy.
Stuart
Yep, I expect them to fly off the shelves. Right now it looks like it’s in-store only, since it’s marked as “express delivery,” which I believe ships from store inventories.
I don’t think I saw that Shockwave bit set in stores yet, but I have one in my living room thanks to Home Depot.
Diamond Dave
Great job with the preview! I love to walk in to my local Home Depot this time of the year to browse through the Christmas Packouts! Wasn’t really impressed with last years selection but always end up purchasing a few items.
I like the Husky handtools generally however the last couple of years they have been featuring more of the HDX in these packouts and they are throw away handtools IMO. I am fairly full with handtools currently but your never know what catches your eye every year at this time.
Stuart
Thanks! The post took a while, but I hope it’s helpful. Last year I missed out on a deal that sold out early. Hopefully this will give readers an advantage.
I’m probably going to buy the Milwaukee cordless vac, and maybe the Bernzomatic torch set.
I always stock up on drill bits and screwdriver bits, but I still have a lot from last year, and I haven’t seen a good Shockwave set yet, at least not one that’s focused on the 2″ bits I like using more.
Adam
I like the 2” Shockwave bits as well. I tried to buy a bunch last time I was at HD, but the shelf was empty, and they couldn’t find the 27 packs the computer said they had.
Thom
The husky saw horses are a good deal. I have 4 of them and the fold up nice for storage. The Gorilla ladders platform is also a handy thing to have around when painting or doing any ceiling work.
Ron
Seems like you can’t get the Milwaukee 2 ah battery on good deal
Bolt
I know it’s contrary to the business model but I would love it if one of those bit sets would come with just #2 Phillips , #2 square, and t25 bits.
Julian Tracy
The work platforms from last year at $20 each were a great deal. They were so cheap I bought a couple and cut one down to be an 11″ tall model. Perfect for cutting in paint on ceilings. (I’m 6’4 tall)
Easy to do and the cut was just below the angled leg support, so no decrease in stability.
I may switch out my un-modified tall one for the higher weight rating $30 unit this year though.
Frank D
Thanks for the overview!
HD may have learned a lesson and finally started a bit early with their displays. Before everything remained under wraps till the day itself. I was in store the other day when I spotted the packout items still in shippinb boxes, and had a chat with the Milwaukee rep who was changing the MW display in store.
Sadly no regular size packout organizers, but did buy a shallow one.
Similar thing, no standalone boxes. Looked like only three box bundles were going to be sold.
Now if they would stop sending C&D letters, and let copies of their flyers get published early, they’d get a lot more positive attention and traffic.
Stuart
After I was done with my post, I took a social media break and saw on Instagram that some stores’ displays are wrapped in plastic or covered in other ways.
mattd
I am thinking about getting one of the work platforms to use as a scaffold type platform between 2 ladders as I have one of those multi position ladders that can be split and figure this would be cheaper than the official ones and more stable than a 2×12.
mattd
These displays have been out for maybe a day and already you can see people have just left random merchandise and trash on them. I don’t know how retail workers can put up with that nonsense. It also makes me wounder about the customers. If it was a contractor that did this you have to wounder how horrible they would mess up a job when they cannot figure out how to put something they don’t want to buy back where they got it. (you can see a can of what looks like paint on the small packout displays, a pack of screws on the duct tape and random other fittings on other ones)
Stuart
That kind of stuff happens all the time. I try to be diligent about putting things back where they belong, or at least giving them to a cashier or front-end associate to add to a “throwback” cart.
There was more “let me put this unwanted item wherever I want” junk than the photos show; I had moved them for photo purposes.
Bill
How do you feel about “open box” deals? I just purchased a 9ah Milwaukee battery from International Tool, and it was just such an item priced very attractively at $109 minus a $20 discount. International Tool states: “What is an OPEN BOX ITEM? This may have been a display item we’ve repackaged. Item may have a blemished box. These items come with the full manufacture warranty, same as new materials. All items are in working order.”
I feel confident I’m getting a good deal on a new item but I have never purchased an item like this before.
Adam
It probably came from a kit with a defective tool. Being listed as ‘open box’ rather than refurbished is what makes me think that. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a refurbished battery offered come to think of it
Joe
Nice list,great info…?

The husky extension cord looks like a great deal

Stopped by HD this morning. Pro Black Friday items are in carboard boxes with 11-12-2018 on the sides. Imasked the clerkmabout the PackOut thin organisers and he didn’t even know what they were. Let alone know if they had them in stock. I asked because when you go to the link Stuart provided they show as ‘there may be a few left in your store’. I have no idea if they are in the pkain boxes with tomorrow’s date but I doubt it. We never get the great items at our store.
Also, looked at the PackOut multiple tool kits at $299, 399, & 499. This is the first full size PackOut containers I have seen at our store. No empties or assortments though. Two things for those who are looking at them. They are really large and bulky compared to the DeWalt Tough Cases. And somewhat heavier. I grabbed up a Tough Case loaded with two tools and compared it to the similar offfering from Milwaukee in the smallest PackOut box. The PO was thicker and a bit heavier. I tried carrying it like a suitcase and it was noticeable. Looks to be very well made and stout but try before you buy.

Surprise. They had the thin PackOut organisers set out this morning. Both full and half footprint sizes. Picked up the full sized one.
They also had the three box PackOut set for 199. They had four on display. I suspect they will go pretty quickly. And my observation about the PackOut size and weight stands. Outstanding mouldings and lid fitment. But they are at the outside limit of dimensions and weigt for carrying around. Even the ‘small’ one. If you buy in, get the set and use them with the built in dolly wheels of the biggest box.

BTW, the PackOut interlocking system of the boxes isnsecond to none in fitment and ease of use. Seriously, go to the Depot and try them out. Amazingly fast and convenient.

The Bosch Daredevil 6 bit set was $4.97 at my HD this morning. Picked up a set.
My store’s online count for the Gorilla platform was 41, but in store they couldn’t be found anywhere. So I grabbed the closest matching one from Gorilla, slightly different specs but with the center carrying hole and they price matched it.
Bought the Diablo recip blade pack too, seems an ok deal. Gives me a chance to try out the carbide recip blades.
I do greatly appreciate your time in laying out all these items/prices and such!

Was just thinking baout the MW vacuum again … shame it is not part of the packout system.

Bought the daredevil bits and was very in-impressed. Drilled a couple holes with my Irwin’s and then them. They rip the heck out of whatever type wood you drill into. Drive same sized Irwin speedbor and it was a nice clean smooth hole.

I have to agree. They serve the purpose for only for fast rough in holes that contractors would need for electrical and plumbing as examples. Otherwise they just tear wood edges which doesn’t serve certain needs.

I stopped by Home Depot this morning to pick a few things and thought I would check out what else might be in the aisle for Black Friday. They had everything covered in black plastic so you couldn’t see what would be offered. Seems a little ridiculous, since their ad is already out. Do they usually include other sale items on the floor that aren’t in the ad? Seemed a little extreme to me.
Stuart
Sometimes there are a few surprised. I can think of several reasons why they’re covered. Some might want the lower pricing that’s not in effect yet, others might get upset if they buy an item at full price only to see the price drop later in the week. Or, some items might sell out before Black Friday, frustrating shoppers who make a special trip in-store.
Displays are set up a few days ahead of time because it takes time and effort to do so. Would you want to be roped into doing that on Thanksgiving?
Are there any reasons why they should be uncovered ahead of Black Friday?
