Mora Knife Craftline Basic Knife Red and Black

Over at Amazon, the Mora Craftline fixed blade knife is on sale, for $7.65. At this price it’s around $3 cheaper than the other colors.

Mora is a very popular brand of inexpensive no-nonsense fixed blade knives.

This model, the Craftline, has a 3.6″ high carbon steel blade, and an impact-resistant TPE rubber handle for optimized grip. There’s a large finger guard, for added safety. it comes with a plastic sheath.

It’s made in Sweden.

At less than $8, this seems like a real steal. Heck, it’s a great price at the usual $10-12.

These knives are good for general purpose tasks. I’ve heard of them being used around the house, in construction, and for outdoors hobbies and activities.

Mora knives aren’t the fanciest around, but they’re darned good, especially for how much (or little) they cost.

Thanks to Hilton, we now know that the lime green/black version is also on sale for ~$8.

Mora Companion Knife Blue

The Mora Companion knife is also a very good knife, and one I have a bit of experience with. It has a slightly longer blade, and you have the option of stainless steel or carbon steel. I like the stainless steel version.

While it’s true that you get what you pay for, Mora knives are among the best values I have ever seen.

Now I’ve got a Christmas present for myself. I love Mora knives. They can take a beating and if something goes wrong you didn’t lay out a bunch of money so you don’t feel bad. Ive got a few and have never had anything bad happen to one. I think I’m adding a couple more.

The Companion is a great bushcraft knife.

The ease of sharpening on the high carbon knife makes it a great knife for kids to learn to care for a knife, keeping it dry/oiled to prevent rust and a very clear blade edge for learning to hold a consistent edge when sharpening. The smaller version looks like an excellent choice for a smaller user. Good sheath as well.

Good to know. I personally don’t own any Mora knives, but have been very interested. I like the idea of the knife being easy to carry for, but also requiring care. Looks like the nephew will be getting one for Christmas.

If you are used to folding knives, the Companion is an absolute revelation in ergonomics. The handle is far more comfortable, secure and versatile than in any folding knife. The same is probably true for the Craftline, though it seems to be more geared to whittling and carving than the Companion.

If you ever have to use a knife outdoors for more than an hour or so, you should absolutely get a Companion or other Mora fixed-blade. (I imagine the only indoor use of that duration would be in cooking, and kitchen knives are a different subject.) If you discover you need a heavier-duty knife, you can move up to a Companion HD, Garberg or something similar.
