Porter Cable Cordless Clamp Saw Straight Handle

Porter Cable’s ClampSaw compact reciprocating saw, which we reviewed late last year, dropped below $80 this weekend on Amazon. Normally priced at around $130, the ClampSaw is a very well-balanced tool that we liked quite a bit. While not as powerful or quick-cutting as an 18V or corded saw, this 12V version is no slouch and is suitable for most light to medium duty jobs.

As with many Amazon deals, there’s no telling how long the saw’s price will remain this low.

While I have no direct experience with this tool – I have come to like the Milwaukere 12V Hackzall – which may have some analogy. I had invested heaviliy into the Milawaukee M12 lineup and the Makita LXT 18V line. My cordless recip saws were therfore Makitas – and I at first dismissed the Hackzall as a homeowner’s tool – but one came bundled in a kit – and it really caught on for installers and plumbers. Now we have quite a number in use.

I have heard good things about the Hackzall and Bosch’s new version of it as well. What I liked about Porter Cable’s ClampSaw is that it can “clamp” onto small pipes, which did make cutting them a bit easier and more comfortable.
