This time of year, there are plenty of tool storage products on sale at the big box stores, including large ball bearing drawered setups.
Gary wrote in after scoping out the deals at his nearest Home Depot (thanks, Gary!). We’ve generally heard decent things about Husky tool storage combos, with “great bang for the buck” sticking out in mind.

FYI: Today I saw a new Husky tool box combo set at Home Depot. Black, large, and nice looking on a quick look. Price for the combo was $498. COO Vietnam.
Shown above is Husky’s 52-inch tool storage combo, with 13 drawers and a single cabinet. Its drawers are rated for 100 lbs loads, and the bottom cabinet has 6 caster wheels for better support and mobility.

This is the one I saw at my local Home Depot as well. I didn’t spend too much time manhandling it, but it looked relatively solid and with some nice features too.
The top lid has gas strut stays, and the doored cabinet part has a shelf, with the door itself looked to have a pegboard hole pattern.

The setup looks convenient, but that lockable door seems like it could be a cost-cutting measure. Then again, this is a sizable tool storage unit. Perhaps having a tall door instead of another bank of drawers will come in handy.
If you want drawers in that part of the combo, it’ll cost you $100 more. Shown here is Husky’s 18-drawer 52-inch combo.
Price: $598

And then there is this 41-inch 16-drawer tool storage combo, which saves a little space. It’s large enough to hold a lot of tools, small enough to not dominate your workspace.
The 52-inch combo is the one that is mentioned in the reader’s email, but this one looks to be a good bargain too. It’s a little smaller, but you get more drawers instead of a large doored space in the bottom roller cabinet.

What do you think of these combos? Hot bargains, or meh?

I have to say I am really no longer impressed with the tool store offerings when it comes to chests and cabinets.
I have the 5 drawer service cart from HF and a 42″ roller and while I’m not a fan of their tools I don’t think anyone comes close in terms of “bang for your buck” anymore.
I do understand the premiums for higher quality chests with more features but I just don’t understand the added cost for husky/craftsman ect. when they are only marginally better in quality or sometimes not as good for more money.

That is a great deal. I’d probably buy it, if I didn’t already buy the Milwaukee one a few months ago. 🙂

It should be noted the picture above is wrong. It shows the unit with the drawers in the lower cabinet on the right. The one in question, on the site, doesn’t have multiple drawers….

My mistake it looks like that is an option with the drawers on the right – my apologies

52″, 13 drawers, door ar lower right: $500
52″, 18 drawers, drawers at lower right: $600
I think the one with the door is a holiday special, with a couple of doors taken out to achieve the lower price, and that the 18pc with full drawers is the regularly stocked option.

Thanks!
This was a recap of the 2015 tool storage deals. Still, good to know that the 52″ 18-drawer combo is on sale for $498!
I don’t have experience with that model, but I did discuss my views of the 52″ 15-drawer unit here: https://toolguyd.com/home-depot-holiday-2016-tool-storage-deals/

Where was this when I needed it about eight years ago. Maybe it’s time to upgrade!

I have one of these. I like my HF box better but for the price this is excellent. The big top compartment is nice for all my Milwaukee drivers, drills, etc.
Biggest beef is that it has very few deeper drawers. Most are pretty shallow.
