Husky RTA Garage Storage Setup with Hutch and Pegboard Back with Tools Display

Over at Home Depot, they have Husky garage storage deals of the day, featuring workbenches, cabinets, and storage combo. The deals are valid thru 3am ET 6/1/22 unless supplies sell out sooner.

Some of the offerings, such as Husky’s standard steel leg and wood top workbenches, will be familiar to anyone who’s shopped the brand before.

There are also some new offerings, or at least options that are completely unfamiliar to me, such as the above-shown RTA (ready to assemble) workbench combo.

This combo features a central cabinet, shelves on both both sides, a workbench top, pegboard backing with shelves, and a small top hutch with individually-opening doors. It’s priced at $600.

Husky also has a cabinet with wood top, pegboard, shelf, and top hutch compartment for $300.

Ready-to-assemble garage storage products generally feature light to medium duty build quality, but they’re less expensive and easier to ship than pre-assembled storage cabinets.

Husky Welded Garage Cabinet with 1 Drawer and 2 Doors

Husky’s heavy duty welded garage storage cabinets and combos are also included in today’s promo.

Husky sent over test samples 2 years ago, and I have been completely pleased with them.

Most of Husky’s welded steel garage cabinets are built with 20 or 18 gauge steel panels, depending on the style of cabinet, compared to the RTA cabinets’ 24 gauge construction.

The Husky welded steel cabinets with doors are excellent, and I have also been happy with the drawered cabinets. One thing to note is that the drawers on mine are not full-extension, which helps to prevent tip-over. The 5-drawer units have bolt-on weights at the bottom, lowering their center of gravity and improving the cabinets’ stability when placed on casters. I have them under a workbench with feet at the moment, but will put them back on casters in the future.

Home Depot’s Husky storage deals of the day expire at 3am ET 6/1/2022, unless supplies sell out sooner.

I can’t say much about their cabinets, but I recently remodeled my mancave and used two of their worktops to make an L shaped desk for my PC and tinkering setup.

Good quality tops. Flat, durable and easy to machine.

Honestly looks a bit flimsy compared to https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-61-in-11-Drawer-1-Door-22-in-D-Mobile-Workbench-with-Sliding-Pegboard-Back-Wall-in-Red-Black-48-22-8561/304094257 (which is almost twice as much to be fair, but there’s a similar one without the pegboard that’s starting to look like a real good deal).

It really depends on what you’re looking for.

When it comes to workbenches and garage storage, I’m of the mindset that the more you see, the better you can sort out the best setup for your needs and space.

I first heard about this philosophy from Adam Savage at a talk he gave years ago and it’s really proven to be effective for me. Tools in boxes may seem better organized but they’re less likely to be used than those that are visible. And the visibility seems to speed up the process of finding solutions. I’ve even incorporated it into my professional life.

I more meant that the more different options you see, the more you can better plan your space.

Adam Savage’s first order retrieval system definitely has benefits. But, he also has a large space with multiple workstations and presumably no kids around that can get hurt.

I very strongly prefer drawer-based organization, even for frequently used tools, but I do like keeping some tools out and immediately accessible.

These workbenches are so shallow. Who wants to work on a bench that is only 24″ deep or less?

Someone who parks their car(s) in a garage and cannot spare a lot of depth along the walls.
