I said… WE RECOMMEND PELTOR EARMUFF HEARING PROTECTION!

Peltor H10A Earmuff Hearing Protection

There is actually little to be said about these Peltor earmuffs – they’re earmuffs, they provide a high level of hearing protection (29dB) for under $20, they’re incredibly comfortable, tough and durable, and… that’s about it.

It’s really surprising how many people will use loud power tools without hearing protection. It’s not as if these are a one-trick pony – they are just as handy in the kitchen when operating a blender or food processor or when I forget my wedding anniversary**.

I also have a box of disposable earplugs for when earmuffs are too bulky, and even occasionally combine them when I feel the need for extra protection. Peltor also makes child-sized earmuffs, although they offer slightly lower protection.

When I ordered my Peltor H10A Optime earmuff roughly 3-1/2 years ago, it was made in Sweden. I’m not sure where these earmuffs are made these days, but if their quality hasn’t changed (and judging by Amazon reviews it hasn’t), then I still strongly recommend ’em!

** Just kidding, that’ll never happen unless I also forget my own birthday!

Pure genius getting married on your birthday. I was hitched on my gma’s so I would lessen the chance of forgetting.

Getting back to the post, I’m wearing the AO Safety branded ones currently with the digital tuner and input jack. I wear them all day in the office and they keep the distractions and interruptions to a minimum. Granted I don’t use them for hearing protection every day but they work just as well for that when I crank up the tools or equipment.

It was actually the day before, but still, serves as a solid frame of reference!

I’ve heard good things about AO Safety’s “WorkTunes” line as well, but that’s not something I’ve found myself needing with only intermittent earmuff use.

The ones shown above are slightly more effective with a NRR of 30dB compared to the WorkTunes which offer NRR of 22 dB, but most users may not need the higher protection.

The new “3M Peltor” packages say “Made in Poland”

Ah, thanks for mentioning that! I haven’t read any complaints about Peltor, so they might have kept quality up after shifting factories.

I actually wasn’t aware that 3M purchased Peltor’s parent company. I’ve been pretty pleased with 3M safety products and wouldn’t hesitate to buy these earmuffs again.
