The Ion Job Rocker is a Bluetooth radio and sound system that is said to be up to any jobsite or rough and tough conditions. It sports a 50W speaker, 2 built-in rubber dust flap-covered power outlets, large and rubberized controls, and a slew of connectivity options.
It’s built with a wood cabinet, chrome-plated steel handles with rubber grips, and protective corner bumpers. Not a fan of the orange color scheme? Ion makes a couple of other like-styled speaker systems with different features and color options.

Oh, and there’s also a built-in battery that provides up to 50 hours of runtime per charge.

Keep in mind that the AC outlets will only work when the Job rocker is plugged into a wall outlet – they won’t work when the system is running on built-in battery power.
There’s no official word as to how big or heavy the Job Rocker is, but Amazon says it’s 12″ x 14.5″ x 15″ in size and with a weight of around 21 pounds.

People commenting on the Amazon reviews state that the battery is easily replaced by removing 4 screws on the bottom, and that it is sealed lead-acid. Those are pretty common with Uninterruptible Power Supplies, so I would imagine a replacement may not be too hard to find or adapt.
Doesn’t seem to have mobile device protection, but being a Bluetooth radio, part of the draw is that you can keep your device on your person.

i actually purchased one of these units, not sure if it was this one, but they are very small and i wasn’t very impressed with the sound any more so than my big dewalt radio and some other jobsite radios I’ve tried. the sound is very good but it’s when you try to turn it up to reach larger area it distorts like many other “smaller” devices. they do have some nice functionality and there is a whole line of these with different wattages and functionality that, although they are not “jobsite” radios seem to be pretty well built and would work well at a site. This unit is typically reduced in price at the buying clubs (Sam’s, BJ’s, etc) – right now it’s only $130.00 at BJ’s

I’ve seen and heard something similar to this on occasions, the original design was a portable, battery powered musical instrument practice/gig amp. Most likely the same power supply, amp, speaker and cabinet, the original input section, tone controls, preamp and jacks were removed and additional electronics and controls were added to provide radio and BT functions. Add an extra handle up front to protect the speaker and you have a jobsite radio. Hearing it as the instrument amp leads me to believe the radio will be quite loud, if not exactly hi-fi.

How would you compare the features, sound quality, and bass of the Job Rocker to the Makita XRM04B? I have Makita tools so it’s either that or this…

I purchased one and was amazed to find out the outlets don’t work when the unit is not plugged in. Seems like a major flaw in the design. What’s the value of the plugs working when the unit is glugged into other power. Does anyone have a work around, I am only looking to power my iphone so that it doesnt die when I am streaming music.

The cheapest solution would be for you to buy a separate and small battery backup pack.
Maybe the next version of this will have a USB jack for device charging.
