Thank you TOOLGUYD for managing to arrange such a promo. It helped me expand my tool arsenal and now I have a never-ending supply of “sticker packs.”

@KCTOOL keep up the great work! I am watching for the next “Tool of the day!”

KC Tool has always been a reliable supplier of tool;s made in the EU. With or without the Toolguyd coupon – I hope that they will continue to prosper.

I was more a Buck Rogers (radio program) sort of kid – then a video ranger for the Captain Video TV show. By the time Leonard Nimoy made the “live long and prosper” phrase popular I had been working for a batch of years, recently married and SciFi TV seemed less pertinent – but your suggestion is nonetheless appealing.

          fred from the Golden Age.

Just came here to see whats up with the TooldGuyd code. I’ll place my KC Tool order anyway but I have not been impressed with their previous packaging/boxing. I will continue to buy though because..why not.

missed the tool of the day by 5 minutes. Twice now that’s happened – had the tool, and things in my cart, reset password by email. went back to cart and deal gone. emptied cart. Luxury shopping so no biggie. I am going to get some Ballistol oil eventually. I guess

Why end it? This blog is a big reason I’ve placed so many orders at KC Tool.

Because this seems KC Tools has gone corporate . You know I remember when this was a young small business that welcomed the average hard working blue collar guy.

Well if they are too good for Toolguy’d they must not need or want my money anymore. Lot of companies have told me and other blue collar men and women the same for many years now so it’s nothing new.

        I wasn’t blindsided.

They explained why, and have been extremely gracious about it. They didn’t owe me any explanation or warning.

It wasn’t personal, they sunsetted all active coupon codes.

Cheers to KC Tool, it’s been an excellent perk of reading this site to be able to use this coupon code for as long as it has been available.

While I am sad to see it go I also understand that some good things must come to an end. I’ve used the discount multiple times, and I have always been very happy with my purchases and KC Tools. I’ll continue to keep them on my list of favorite vendors.

Thank you Stuart and KC tools for deals while they lasted.

Given the reality of modern day marketing and ever diminishing hard-goods margins I think KC Tool has probably gone a little longer with this near classic discount than their CPA and/or banker would have advised. I know I’ve certainly appreciated it while it lasted.

I see it as nothing more. No slight to anyone.

Amen If you are always having a sale than you are never really having a sale. The idea of sales and coupons are to achieve some particular objective at the time of the sale or coupon offer. If you continue a sale ad infinitum it is likely to become ineffective. Initially, they may have wanted to see how a blog like Toolguyd might help promote their business and see if ToolGuyd readers bought more or more often because of the coupon. After an extended period – the coupon code probably became more widely known via the internet and more less effective in providing intelligence about the demographics of the buyers who were applying it to their purchases. They could have just adjusted prices up to cover the 10% off discount and their shrinking margins (if that was the case) but that would have had other consequences – perhaps reducing overall sales/profits and needlessly impacting less-savvy buyers. It was nice while it lasted – and I see no reason to fault them for their business decision.

Another factor can be people sharing codes with others getting out of hand. When I had my machining business we made some “catalog” parts for motorsports applications which we sold directly as well as through dealers. We did sponsor certain forums from time to time, as well as various groups and organizations. But after a while it became clear that some of those discount codes became essentially 100% public knowledge among our customer base so everybody was getting a deal which made the whole thing pointless. So we discontinued codes from time to time and we would periodically update those for the specific forums and organizations we sponsored. So for example if we found that nearly everyone and not just Toolguyd users were using the old code we’d update it to “toolguyd4ever” or something like that. That way the people regularly using the forum would still get it but it would set back the discount aggregator websites a bit.

I sometimes use a Capital One Mastercharge for online purchases (if the site doesn’t accept AMEX). When I go to checkout – Capital One seems to cycle through a plethora of stored promo codes seeing if any of them apply. Usually, they do not. If none apply – then a message pops up saying: “you have the best price.” I see this mostly as a gimmick on Capital One’s part to promote use of their credit cards. I actually find it mildly annoying – but I guess that I tolerate it based on the hope that someday it might save me a buck or two.
