If you’ve been following along these past few weeks, you probably already read that we partnered up with KC Tool for a quick banner ad (that part’s over), some ToolGuyd-selected tool deals (those are over already too), and some test samples for review (you’ll see more of those this week and next).
There was one more thing we arranged for you guys – a reader giveaway!
And no, this isn’t just any giveaway, it’s a pick your prize giveaway! That means that you get to choose what you win. So go ahead, take some time to browse around the KC Tools website, and leave a comment telling us what you would want your prize to be, and why.
Upcoming reviews will feature tools by Wiha, Wera, and Gedore. Don’t worry, if you see a review and want to change your prize request, you’ll have an opportunity to do so at the end of the giveaway period. You can our KC Tool tool reviews all listed here as they’re published.
Not sure what you want to win? That’s okay, I put together a couple of ideas of my own for a surprise me option.
There is a $75 limit. So no, you’re not going to be able to win a $1300+ Wiha 80pc insulated tool set. If you’re set on a prize that’s a couple of dollars over $75, maybe I’ll cover the extra cost myself, or maybe your entry will be disqualified for being over budget, we’ll have to see. Please keep in mind that $75 limit. And don’t feel the need to reach that limit if your ideal prize is lower priced.
Here’s how to enter: browse KC Tool’s website and comment here, telling us what you want to win, and a little bit about why you want it or how you would use it. It’s as simple as that.
And if you want to go the “surprise me” route, say something to that effect and add a little something to make your entry interesting. Maybe a haiku poem? Or maybe a quick 1-paragraph fictional story about your favorite tool. I read each and every giveaway entry, and it gets boring if all everyone says is “pick me” or “I want to win.”
I already have a “surprise me” prize package in mind, but might change it up.
Winner Selection: There will be (4) winners, who will be chosen at random. Who knows, maybe I’ll pick a 5th winner if I find an entry I really like.
Rules: Entry period ends 6/26/2015. Only those with continental USA addresses are eligible to win. KC Tool is handling prize fulfillment, so you’ll receive your prize directly from them.
Thank you KC Tools for funding this giveaway! If you’re not the type to enter online giveaways, make an exception this time. A strong response might go a long way to convince them to throw another giveaway just for you guys in the future.

If you find something you like on the KC Tools website that you must have NOW, they offer free shipping on $50+ orders. Also check out our KC Tool feedback post – readers have some good things to say about the company.

If I win, I’ll gladly take the “surprise me” prize. I have a basic assortment of tools (pliers, screwdrivers, etc.), but most are not high quality tools from European manufacturers, like those sold by KC.

i want to win ill take the knipex pliers wrench lol i have 10 inche ones so maybe 7 inch ones

Knipex 86-05-150 6″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip
I have the 12″ version and absolutely love ’em. I think I need these in every size available!

Man- this would be a tough call to pick one thing from the KC tools site, but I would really love the Wiha T-Handle soft hex drivers. I am getting tired of searching for the correct wrench, or running around to my car/upstairs/far-corners-of-the-shop to find my metric set whenever I need to adjust the lathe.

I would love a knipex pliers wrench or water pump pliers in any size. Of course also cool with surprises, too. Basically what I’m saying is there’s nothing better than new tools, unless they’re free new tools.

I am starting a side business replacing cell phone glass in order to earn a little bit of extra money for my family. I would love to win…Wiha 26793 8 Piece PicoFinish Precision Torx Screwdriver Pouch Set…It has the super small torx bits that I am having trouble with. I bought the cheap ones and they keep breaking. I know this brand will last! Thank you very much.

Lots of good options, but tough to stay under the price limit. I might have to go with the same answer I use when overwhelmed at a restaurant: “Surprise Me”
It usually works out great, and is a good test of the waitstaff?
Dazrin
What I really need is a good set of JIS screwdrivers since the readily available Phillips screwdrivers are not adequate when working on Japanese cars/trucks. Unfortunately JIS screwdrivers don’t appear to be available and since I don’t have all day to browse I would have to choose the “surprise me” package.
Kevin
Hmm…if I got the nod, I’d say that I could put a good set of Wiha insulated screwdrivers to use. Otherwise, I’ve never owned/seen/tried a Gedore tool – how about one of their Engineer hammers – maybe the 500g one?
In any case – thanks!
Dave
Stuey and KC Tools,
Thanks for the giveaway! I am interested in the following hand tool: Gedore 8248-160 JC Combination pliers.
I think the pliers are great for assembling (along with a multi-bit screwdriver) anything with the tool’s thin head, ergonomic design (with cushion handles), 2 jaw types, and cutters behind the jaws. I would also use the pliers for automotive work for anything requiring squeezing, cutting, or tightening in a confined area.

So sexy… Knipex 86-05-150 6″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip

Simple. Gedore 706 Thread gauge. I’m inheriting a ton of nuts and bolts, and I’d like to be obsessive enough to organize and label them.

I’ve been wanting a pair of Knipex Cobras for a while now. There are just so many times that regular old groove joint pliers aren’t up to the job…

I was talking to my good friend Mr. T. He has recently become a big fan of Toolguyd. We were discussing all the really excellent tool options offered by KC Tool and I expressed my excitement at seeing their full selection of Knipex plierwrenches, to which he commented emphatically, “I pity the fool that asks for a plier wrench. Everyone wants one. Pick something else, be different, be an individual, man up and get a mohawk.” At that point I woke up. Realizing Mr. T probably doesn’t use tools too often himself and equally glad I didn’t dream about Vanilla Ice and his thoughts on tools I will complete disregard my otherworld advice and respectly submit that I could really use a Knipex 86-05-150 6″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip. This would complement the used 10 inch Knipex Pliers Wrench I purchased off that major web auction site and give me a set of German manufactured plier wrenches to use and dream about forever.

Knipex 13-82-8 Pliers for Electrical Installation – MultiGrip
My electrical work these days is almost all maintenance — this (and an interchangeable-bit screwdriver) would let me retire an ENTIRE tool belt and none of us want that draggin’ my pants down anymore. OK, so it’s a little over the $75, but only pennies.
Adabhael
After a whole lunch spent browsing, and feeling slightly overwhelmed, I think I would get the most use out of a Knipex Pliers Wrench. Nearly all my tool use ends up being on the move, and I am trying hard to slim down my main tool bag. It seems like this would let me replace several pounds of wrench for all but the most mechanically-intensive of jobs, while simultaneously offering versatility for all manner of holding, squeezing, pinching, gripping, crimping, nipping, and other controlled applications of pressure. Thanks to both you and KC for running this giveaway.
Justin S
I have to say it’s a clever promotion since to enter I have to look at pages and pages of very pretty tools. Which I’m sure is the idea. But while I had heard of several of these brands, I’d never heard of KC Tool.
I’m not sure if the $75 is on the list price or “discounted price” that things are presently on sale for. If it is on the discounted price, then a
Knipex 09-08-240 High Leverage Lineman New England Heads-1,000V Insulated would solve the big void in my electrical toolkit. In the event that it’s on list price, pretend that I didn’t just reference a $75.40 part and instead pretend I completely referred to Knipex 09-02-240 9.4″ Lineman’s Pliers – MultiGrip which fit under the radar there!
Good stuff :).

I’ve done everything from working on $450k nuclear power valves to changing the oil on my car. I’ve calibrated 0.1″h2o pressure sensors and CNC micro machined parts from Inconel 718. I fly and design custom special purpose remote control helicopters. Though lately, I’ve been building some new carcasses for our kitchen cabinets.
If there is anything I’ve learned over the years, it is that it isn’t just having the right tool for the job. You need the BEST tool for the job and this website helps me to see new tools that I would otherwise never know were an option.
So, I’m going to say surprise me. The only things on my tool shopping list that I know KC Tool sells are Wiha 26799 8 Piece Precision Torx Screwdriver Pouch Set and Knipex Wrench Pliers (I immediately modified my first pair specifically for brushless motor rewinding). But I’m betting that you just might know of some other fun tool that KC Tool sells that will change how I work.

I’ve wanted a Torx T10 powerbit for my little Bosch impact driver to make working on my Thunder Tiger e700 easier. Well, KC Tools wins. Their ‘filter’ function is amazing.
http://www.kctoolco.com/1-4-Drive-Power-Bits-2-6-Wiha-Wera-s/3294.htm?searching=Y&sort=5&cat=3294&show=33&page=1&f-T10%20Torx=2884
So, I’ve gone from thinking this tool was unobtainable to not knowing which to get. Thanks Stuart and KC Tool. 😀
I love the Wera pouch sets with the 89mm long bits but I wish there was a way to pick exactly which bits came in your pouch. Sort of like how you can pick 6 different beers and put them in your cardboard thing at the grocery store. I would want 1.5mm to 5mm hex, some Torx and some Philips.
Kent
I love the German tools.
At the moment, I’m working on a project where I need to bend some small diameter pipe, and the Gedore 241500 Pipe bending pliers (GR1442007) would be *perfect*.
Cheers, and thanks for sharing with us.

I would love to win the WIHA 74996 35pc. Bit ratchet compact storage box set. I have a Thule kayak rack on my Toyota Tacoma and the upright support clamps have 7/32 hex drive bolts that are tight against the inner bed walls. This set would speed up installation and removal of my rack.
Any surprise Quality tool would also be great. Thanks for the opportunity to win a Quality Tool. You can never have too many”good” tools!
Richard G.
Great! Love your site Stuart!
Found it about two months ago and already bought several items recommended buy you and fellow readers. Very helpful reviews and detailed description of tools and other things.
If I would be one of the prize winners, I’d love to have Wera 950 multicolor hex set in metric and SAE, if there is no SAE, I’d love to match it with Wiha 36986 color coded hex set, so I would have two great brands to use. I keep investing in Knipex and Wiha tools, I already have several pipe wrenches, which brings joy for me to work with and jelous vews from a coworkers 😉 , couple ratches, couple adjustable pliers, recently, with your mentioning on NWS combination pliers, I bought a set for myself. I also already have a several sets of Wiha micro screwdrivers, love them! I used to work on BMWs, so the love to German cars and tools is still inside of me. Couple of years ago, we had a guy at our place to service our strap Bander which is made in Germany, and he had a lot of nice German tools with him, I was jelous )) that’s when I saw theese color coded hex l-shape keys, and fell in love. That time I forgot where he bought them, but now, I hope, I have a chance to have theese sets.
For me, German quality is like a standard for others to folow, would it be a machinery or a tools or something else. Have a nice day!
Andrew H
I would have to go with surprise me, because when I start browsing tool websites, I inevitably buy useful things that I really could make do without.
Scott
I have a nice assortment of tools (mostly thanks to your reviews) except when it comes to working with electric. I’d really appreciate a set of Weras (Wera 160 i/6 VDE Insulated Slotted/Phillips Screwdriver Set + Rack) to keep me safe.
Keith
I would love to be surprised. What fun is a gift if you already know what it is. Also there is way to much that I would like from there to even begin to make a list.

Way too many Shiny tools, but I think I’d get the most use out of a Knipex pliers wrench, just like everyone else…
The 10″ multi grip (86-05-250) is $75.79. I’d happily cover the difference.
I’m coveting the Wera bit sets, but they’re out of the budget, so the pliers wrench it is.
Thanks Stuart and KC Tool for the giveaway 🙂
Mike
I’ve always wanted to have the smallest
Knipex 86-05-150 6″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip.
Thank you, Toolguyd, for doing this
Hayden
Plier wrench! Not
High strength shears for Kevlar, carbon fiber and glass would be awesome. I laminate with these materials often and they kill regular shears quick.
Also the all steel wera zyklop 8004 ratchets handle looks very ergonomic 1/4 or 1/2 drive would be excellent to try.
I would not turn down a plier wrench I was just kidding earlier. Love my cobras.
avi
While I am tempted by the surprise me option if only to find out what it is. I would have to go with the knipex pliers with plastic grips, (the multi-grips look a bit bulky.) I have been drooling over them ever since I heard about them on Toolguyd.
But I would love if you could recommend a size.
I am an all-around handy man so they would function as my main plumbing pliers but also get a lot of work on smaller fasteners because it is usually too difficult to drag out the box-wrench and socket sets. I currently make do with an oxo (yes they make kitchen utensils) adjustable wrench with about a 1.5″ capacity and a cheap pair of 10″ tongue-and-groove pliers.
Even if I don’t win I’d love suggestions as to which size to maybe one day splurge on. Thanks
Tomato14
Knipex 86-03-125 5″ Pliers Wrench. Having used the 12″, 10″, and 7″, I would be interested to see how useful the smaller size is. I usually find the 12″ to be very oversized for the tasks I typically do, and often gravitate towards the 7″ as my go-to pair. Surely the 5″ would be exceedingly handy as well.
Ton
Surprise me, I’ve only had knipex and nws, and would love to try wiha, wera, or gedore.
Zachary
I would like a 10″ knipex plier wrench, I would love have on to replace my old adjustables and so I can have something light and useful while working on ladders.
Daniel Lawson
I could use the Wiha 61620 maxi flex ruler I had an older style ruler similar to this and can’t find it for the life of me. I am a wood worker and this would help tremendously in setting up my table saw and getting some good solid ruler numbers at the longer lengths.
Bradley Hanstad
As I had said in my Klein post, I am a mechanically engineering student that gets by mainly using older friends’ tools. I have gotten by with cheaper tools, and upon getting a real internship last summer working on very expensive equipment, I decided I needed to start the long haul of acquiring tools.
As the second season of Battlebots is on the horizon before the first season even airs, I know I can use some tools that can take abuse at times. As such, I would spring for the surprise option as I could use almost anything of quality which is what KC offers. However, I also have been eyeing some rather expensive compact socket sets and would honestly love to use the prize money to go towards a more expensive purchase perhaps?
Either way, I am appreciative of KC and toolguyd for coming up with these discounts and giveaways.

I’ve been lusting for the wera rainbow hex keys after picking up a set of their torx keys. http://www.kctoolco.com/wera-950-spkl-9-multicolor-metric-l-key-clip-set-p/wr073593.htm

Stuart,
I have been eyeing a Were ratchet screwdriver set such as this one http://www.kctoolco.com/wera-25-stainless-steel-bit-driver-set-p/wr071115.htm though if I win feel free to surprise me with some other ratchet screwdriver set that you think is better.

The screw driver will be something for my EDC kit. That’s why I am leaning toward something with a small foot print. I have been looking for a compact bolt cutter as well. What is your opinion between Knipex vs Gedore
http://www.kctoolco.com/knipex-8-cobolt-bolt-cutters-recessed-spring-p/7132200.htm
http://www.kctoolco.com/gedore-8340-200-jl-bolt-cutter-p/gr2541300.htm
I never had Gedore but I do own several Knipex. From the spec they look very similar. I would love to get your thought on those.
Iron-Iceberg
I’ve been looking at these small hand held bolt cutters for a long time now.
Knipex 71-21-200 8″ Cobolt Compact Bolt Cutters 20 Degree Angled – Plastic Grip
If I win I can give you an everyday use review. With pictures. I need something to cut small bolts without sparks.

Surprise me……. I’m sure anything received would be super and a surprise! Thanks!

Like a kid in a candy store…… I’m over whelmed with this offer/opportunity. So many unique great tools!
First impressions are powerful……I’d be tickled to get the pliers wrench you discussed or surprise me! Thanks Stuart!

So many shiny german tools for sale… there are a lot of tempting options, but what I really need is the German Bottle Opener Set
http://www.kctoolco.com/kc-tool-german-bottle-opener-set-p/bottleopenerset.htm
That, one of the Wera screwdriver sets, and maybe the Felo bottle opener as well
I’ve already got one of the Wera bottle openers, and the thing is just wonderful to use.
I mean, does the Knipex Pliers wrench open beers? Probably. But not with the ergonomics and grace of a properly designed german tool.
Priorities.

First off I would like to thank Toolguyd and KC Tools for teaming up and bringing us tool users and tool addicts a great giveaway. I am a machinist apprentice and will soon be working in an industrial maintenance enviroment so the tools I would choose if I am chosen would be a pair of Knipex Alligator pliers of any size . I would use these for anything from chip pullers to breaking loose corroded fasteners if I couldn’t get to it with a ratchet, wrench etc. Another option would be a set of Felo 31844 precision screwdrivers . I would use these to disassemble and repair indicators , calipers etc. Lastly a set of Felo 22155 or 31270 screwdrivers would be a great addition to my tool chest. I have always wanted a set of genuine wood handled screwdrivers and not the cheapo sets often found at flea markets etc. Likewise the 31270’s would be a great set of rough use screwdrivers that would shrug off daily abuse with ease. So there are my picks and I would be equally happy with any combo of those or just one item. Its yalls giveaway do I will let you decide which would suit my needs best. Thanks again KC and Toolguyd.

Stuart,
Thanks for the opportunity. I would like the surprise me gift as it seems I cant stop buying the tools I actually need/ or just think I might need. So a surprise would be great.

When i was young…
I Remember when used to work together with my father how contractor and he bought a little set of screwdrivers, a good brand. One day, before leave the place of work, my father ask me where i left his new set. I lost them. Now, my father still work like contractor and this could be a good gift for him, i am pretty sure that he will remember that old screwdriver set.
I want to win this for him… Wiha 32093 10 Piece Insulated Slotted and Phillips Set
Toolfreak
I could use something
for pulling and cutting wires
so I’d take seventy five dollars worth
of brand new Knipex pliers!
Either that or the revised Suprise package.

I can’t count how many times I’ve twisted the head off an old screw or bolt while doing a demo/rehab project. I’ve always had to MacGyver it, but if I win….no more!
Gedore 8551-66 Bolt extractor set 6 pcs M3-M24
With these little guys, I can get those broken screws/bolts out correctly, and get on with my job.
When the job’s done, I’d then move on the to the second tool that I’d get.
Wiha 104703 Bottle Opener
Not really much that needs to be said about that tool….
Thanks ToolGuyd!

I’d love to try out these..
Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench – Plastic Grip

Very interested in the Knipex Pliers I’ve seen here, since parallel jaw pressure with high leverage is critical to repairing certain projects properly, especially without marring like traditional pliers or vise grips do.

Wow! Another fun giveaway!
I have been lusting after a Wera Kraftform Kompakt 25 Stainless Steel Bit Driver Set(WR071115 )
or
the Knipex 86-05-250 10″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip (8605250 ) to match my 6″ version.
I am the resident handyman/mechanic among all of my friends which keeps me on my toes as I never know what projects I will get myself into. I love helping people and have a hard time saying ‘no’.
Thanks Stuart, ToolGuyd, and KC Tools!

I’m a farmer, not a professional tool user but when I need them it’s gotta be heavy duty and good quality. I’d love the Knipex Cobras but it’s hard to justify buying them for occasional farm use. Winning them would be great!
Knipex 00-31-20-V01 2 Piece Cobra Pliers Set

I would love a Knipex 7″ and 10″ – the design looks incredible, I could basically throw out my channel locks and adjustable wrenches and never look back!
Pat
I was cleaning up in my garage, and I realized that I really don’t like my mismatched cheap screw drivers.
The Wiha 53096 6 Piece SoftFinish Extra Heavy Duty Slotted/Phillips Screwdriver Set would be a good start to getting some good screw drivers.
Of course, this would be expensive since then I would want to upgrade most of the rest of my tools also.
mike aka Fazzman
After your post this morning Stu,I realize I could really use one of the knipex pliers wrenches in my inventory. Id be happy with any of them the 10″ multigrip is like max for this on sale it looks like. The smaller 5 or 6 inch ones could be very handy as well.

Wiha 54095 8 Piece SoftGrip Ball End Hex Metric Dual Drive T-handle Set
I’m interested in a good set of ball end drivers. I try to keep things in good repair around the house and the T-handle ball end drivers are my favorites for bike work. I’ve got a cheap knock-off set that I’ve sheared a few balls off of so now it’s time for a real set made with good hardened steel. These Wiha’s look pretty good. Thanks!

Great contest; so much to choose from… I am always losing my adjustable wrenches so I would love to win :
Gedore 60 S 12 JC Adjustable spanner, open end, chrome-plated with 2C-handle
Nice sized tools, looks sturdy.
Thanks.

I’d love to have the Wera Tools Kraftform Kompakt 27 RA Ratcheting Screwdriver- great for Ikea assembly, electronic disassembly with the right bit selection.
Jason
I have only tried to set’s of Wiha tools and they are amazing quality. I have two sets of their bits, and they have held up with a ton of use and abuse. If I am selected, I would like the following Wiha products:
Wiha 44501 tweezers
Wiha Screwdriver 38018
skfarmer
thanks for the offer.
if we are “around” 75 dollars the wera tool-check bit ratchet set #wro56490 on sale for 82.99 is a want. it looks like an excellent set up.
otherwise the the felo “woody ” screwdrivers are old school cool and would be a nice fit for well under the 75 dollar mark.
Watts
Watts is alone in his shed on an average Thursday night, finishing making final adjustments to his lawn mower for the weekend. The sun has set but the storm is still raging. The radio broadcaster mentions something about a rash of random violent attacks, but after a clap of thunder static is that comes out of the radio. Watts reaches up and switches off the radio. Returning to his task, Watts hears something above the din of the storm but doesn’t give it much notice.
Moments later he hears a scratching at the door. As he turns around and gets up, a zombie burst into the shed. Not having any time to react, Watts instinctively reaches for the first thing his hand finds, his trusty Knipex 86-05-150 6″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip. The zombie lunges at Watts, but he manages to stumble out of the way and avoid the zombies gore stained hands. The zombie clumsily turns, but Watts is faster. He quickly and savagely dispatches the zombie with a few quick blows to the head.
After regaining his composure, Watts reaches for a rag to wipe the sweat from his brow. Looking down he realizes he is still holding the 6″ pliers wrench with a death grip. “I bet they didn’t have that in mind when they put “almost unlimited application possibilities” on the back of the packaging!” he says to himself with a smirk and returns to adjusting the carburetor.
Dave L.
I think I would be quite happy with the Wiha 91253 16″ Heavy Duty Canvas Tool Bag. Always nice to have a sturdy tool bag.
Ben
I’ve been hankering for a Knipex Pliers Wrench since I first read about them – but unfortunately rags for wiping up the drool are cheaper. The 7″ pliers seem right on the money, and if you’re buying might as well spring for the Multigrips – 86-05-180!
Brent
Too many choices of too many fine tools!
I have a 7″ Knipex Pliers Wrench, so a 10″ to compliment would be great.
On the other hand, I have more use for the Wiha 54095 8 Piece SoftGrip Ball End Hex Metric Dual Drive T-handle Set.

In all honesty I would love to win a “surprise me” package where there a combination of various tools . I didn’t realize that the KC Tool site is so large, I really like how detailed and organized every category is. The Wiha 30993 3 Piece Pliers/Cutter Set – Industrial SoftGrip looked great. I also liked the 7 Piece Precision Slotted & Phillips Set + Free Ergo Pro 6.3″ Pliers. I am a DIYer who does a bit of everything around the house from fixing cars, to doing remodeling and electrical in my home or on my rental property. I would love to use any combination of tools on my project. I am slowly building up my tool set and love the ergonomics and quality of German made tools. I am also in the process of building my home and would love to have some new tools through out the process. I think that the KC tool site is going to be my new go to place for my tool needs, only issue is that I’m really watching my budget this the time. I really hope I win and thank you for the opportunity.
Luke
Stu, sorry about the delay on entering. The problem is KC Tools has so much good stuff, it takes at least 24 hours to lust over all of their offerings.
My choice is the 7″ Knipex pliers (86-03-180) with the plastic grip.
Why? Because everywhere I go I find myself helping someone fix something. Sometimes it’s a friend’s lawn mower that wont start or helping my sister hang my nephew’s swing. It’s gotten to the point where I have a dedicated toolbox in my car that has a mechanics tool set and full sets of brad point, spade, concrete, and traditional drill bits – just to name a few things. That one 7″ Knipex pliers will replace just about every open and boxed end wrench that I carry in my toolbox. The weight savings alone is worth it not to mention the versatility of the tool. Those things are truly amazing.
LoveLearn
My favorite pliers of all time up to this date of ever-evolving plier-design evolution are the Knipex Plier-Wrenches. That’s why I bought their 3-size array so I use, treasure and enjoy my 7″, 10″ and 12″ models. I can and have used them as delicate portable presses yet I can develop enough force to flatten the edge of a penny! But for “Every Day Carry,” the 7″ model is still just too large for me. What I’d LOVE to have now is one of the new and wonderful Knipex 86-03-125 5″ Pliers Wrench. Five Inches Long? My old 4″ Vice Grip is worn smooth from years of pocket carry. I didn’t think it would ever be surplanted, but this new 5″ Knipex Plier Wrench would probably emerge as my new favorite. High praise indeed. Thanks for this fun and interesting mind-trip. I didn’t know the new 5″ model even exists before today.
Conor
I would love a Switch Lever 3/8″ ratchet from Wera. I have an old black Husky set that has been serving me well, wrenching on my car and beyond, but the ratchet switch on my 3/8″ is wearing out and I’d like to use this as an opportunity to upgrade. You’ve spoken highly of Wera’s tools in the past, and I think it’s time to give them a whirl 🙂
Thanks for being such a consistent, enjoyable source of tool news! It’s been great to see the content quantity and quality evolve over the last few years.
Tomas
I would love the “Wiha 26193 8 Piece PicoFinish Precision Slotted and Phillips Screwdriver Pouch Set”
I’m a hardware tech and deal with mainly laptops, I’ve been searching for the perfect screwdriver to get at all the little size 0 and 00 philips screws for years. The newest models from Lenovo also require you to crack the entire case open to get to multiple components (hardrive, motherboard, fan, etc) for that you need a thin tool, like one of the slotted screwdrivers that come in this set. I think this combo set would work realy well.
I haven’t been able to bring myself to spend the $45, so I’m using a mix of various things, including a single Wiha (non pico finish) screwdriver which works great for cracking those cases apart. Having a complete set would be sweet…fingers crossed!!

After using my uncles wera screwdrivers i fell in love with them, just never got around to buying them
I like the 334/6 for a simple set that looks great and feels really nice

I have a small collection of grandfathers 1930’s-40’s tools. One in particular is a vey old but well built pipe wrench that I still use to this day. It’s highly oxidized and the large adjustment screw is like pushing a 75 pound rock with just my thumb. It’s cast, heavy and should be in a museum . If I’m picked as the winner I’d certainly hang a hook or two near the ceiling of my garage and retire/display this old guy proudly.
That being said I’d love to win this new pipe wrench
Knipex 83-60-010 13″ Pipe Wrench S-Type w/ Fast Adjustment
James C
Knipex 7″ pliers wrench. I actually had the idea before seeing the post on them but didn’t get around to entering. Anyway, I’ve been eyeing these for a while. They would be a prefect Father’s Day gift for my FIL to throw in his motorcycle toolbox – much more compact than a separate adjustable wrench and pair of pliers.
Dennis
I’d love to win one or two Gedore ET-1100 W Lid tool board(s). I’m about 95% certain that these are the tool walls that attach to L-Boxx lids (branded Gedore). I’ve been searching for a retailer that sells them in the US, so I’d be pretty excited to get my hands on some and retrofit a couple L-Boxxes.
Mahalo
I sure could use the Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers! I looked at some of the Wera tool offerings, and noticed that the Zyklops are out of the price range, which is another tool that I have been really impressed by. I also like the Knipex 86-05-250 10″ Pliers with the multi-grip, but that’s over the threshold, too.
Anyway, thanks for arranging yet another great giveaway, and good luck to everybody!

Hi there! I recently bought a house and work in the IT field, so I’ve been starting to window shop for some premium tools. I posted on the garage journal forum asking for advice for a replacement screwdriver for the one that was stolen (PB Swiss Insider 3). Since you’re being generous and giving out freebies, I thought I’d ask for a
Felo 50624 9 pc Smart Belt Pouch Set – Slotted, Phillips, & Torx Tip Blades
Seems perfect for me to take to work.
Thanks again!

I would love to win either the Knipex 10″ Raptor Pliers or the 10″ Quick Adjust Cobra’s. The orginal Cobra’s are hands down the best pliers I have ever used and got me hooked on Knipex instantly. The quick adjust Cobra’s seem like they would take a lot of the guess work out of finding the perfect size for the Cobra’s when gripping onto something.
The Raptor pliers are something I think look awesome but really have been able to justify getting them for myself yet. I can imagine they are the type of tool you wouldn’t use everyday but when you need them they are probably a life saver.
Hang Fire
So much to choose from, but I’d for for the Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench, I’ve had my eyes on this for a while to replace my standard adjustable wrench for oddball sizes.

This is the tool I’d like to have: http://www.kctoolco.com/knipex-7-pliers-wrench-multigrip-p/8605180.htm
I’d use this tool to tighten some nuts. And I’m sure I’d use it for any number of unpredictable situations since it looks pretty dang handy.
BikerDad
I’d definitely love to get my hands on one/some of the Knipex Pliers wrenches , they are actually on my “want list.” I didn’t comment yesterday as I was pretty busy.
Otherwise, the Wiha precision driver you just profiled seems like it would make a good addition to my EDC bag.
BenB
Knipex Pliers Wrench 10″ would be great.
Xilu
Could definitely use a pair of the Knipex 85-01-250 10″ SmartGrip Pliers – Auto Adjusting pliers around the house, much easier than having to switch back and forth, especially when doing plumbing work!
chad
Are you a patriot? Or… do you want to be even more patriotic?
This plier, if awarded to my will form the “red” next to my and “white” Lindstrom and “blue” channeloc proudly hanging on my tool wall. I will then open up my shop to free tours on all of the patriotic holidays. Image the glory… Freedom baby!
eh… its a nice series of plier/wrench and I’d love to have a few.
Joshua Latham
I would love to get some
Knipex 09-01-240 9.4″ Lineman’s Pliers – Plastic Grip and
Knipex 70-01-160 6.3″ Diagonal Cutters – Plastic Grip
Just under $75.
It kind of sucks that i need these because my Klein linesman pliers and diagonal cutters, Thomas and Betts crimper, and Greenlee wire stripper were recently stolen out of my shop. And that was just my electrician tools that were stolen, I wont get into the mechanics tools that were taken, i’m still steaming about the whole thing.
Anyway thanks Stuart and keep it up. Site just keeps getting better and better.

A few poems by me.
My wife jealousy is becoming bleak.
With every new tool I buy she will shriek.
I thought this time I would win
A new tool from Berlin
But she said I am too meek
My wife cries with disbelief.
The light! The light!
The light went dim.
My Wiha driver replaces the switch.
The light comes back and I see my wife.
A true mistake I made.
All the world’s a woodshop, and all the men and women merely craftsmen: they have their hammers and their screws; and one man in his time fixes many parts, his craft being seven ages.
I just bought an old home
With a a foundation of stone
Any tool would be fine
And if I fix what is mine
This house will become a home
As you can tell I just bought my first home so any tool with be of help! Especially since I am converting the basement into a shop!

I don’t think many people appreciate the physics of the pliers wrench like I do. As a grad student I am a bit of a dork, but the tool employ’s a simple concept in physics of torque (=radius*force*sin of theta) with fulcrum point that is very unique. I have a lot of respect for the tool’s unique design, and as a grad student it is hard to earn my respect (there is a lot of shady research out there especially if you understand the statistical presentation in a lot of research studies). As far as use goes, I cannot imagine ANYONE not needed this unique tool.
thanks
Cole
I am a tool man who loves a good prize,
Pliers to ratchets I have every size,
American made is my style,
Obviously they go the extra mile,
German made won’t do,
After all they lost World War Two,
But I do have to say,
I love my shepherd,
even if she is a stray,
Maybe I shouldn’t be so cruel,
It is possible they make a good tool,
So send one my way,
Let’s see what I have to say.
A Gedore 525 H-500 hammer kombi-plus 500g would be greatly appreciated

I would like the SOG SwitchPlier 2.0 Multi-Tool . I have carried a pouch on my side for the 30 years I worked in air conditioning and for the last 4 years I have been retired it includes a multitool flashlight white out pen marker and regular pen. I have been laughed at till they need one of the tools for an emergency and I do not getting any more comment after that. I have worn this set to church for the last 30 years as well it is me. I am happy to be surprised with a gift I am a tool junky

I’d probably pick Wiha (Heyco) 35096 7 Piece Open End Wrench Set – Metric because that is one set of wrenches I don’t have.

Because I’m just getting started in arduino project. Still breadboarding circuits, but will soon fab my own pcbs. First project is synchronizing my window AC unit with my nest thermostat. NEST->Nest Server->Google App Engine->my wifi network->esp8266->IR LED->Window AC. What can possibly go wrong? 😀

The Knipex Pliers Wrench
I’m in the “replace with better tools” zone for my homeowner’s toolkit. I think these will let me get rid of a few crummy big-box store, made-in-China specials. Those crummy hunks of metal have served me well, and will likely get handed over to one of my brothers.
Hopefully, the replacement tools will be my last – even better if my son or daughter steals them from me. I’m still using my father’s Craftsman Vice Grips from the 1980s and my grandfather’s claw hammer from at least the 1960s (my father stole that hammer from him and I took it with me to college).
Come to think of it, why am I not cruising garage sales for good tools? Have you ever done a post on “classic” tools? Might be a cool column, if not.
I digress…
Dan
Did I win yet??? Oh boy, that’s great. Anything, i mean anything would greatly be appreciated. Thanks Stuart for the great site.
Doc
I’m in for the Knipex Pliers Wrench 86 05 250, 10″ with soft grips.
I’ve spent a good amount of time researching to upgrade and build out my toolbox over the last ~2 years. As part of that I upgraded my adjustable wrenches to the Irega-made Channellocks. While widely considered the best in it’s category (and they are much better than others I’ve used), I still find adjustable wrenches clunky and frustrating to use at times. Maybe I’m buying into the hype, but if the Pliers Wrench is half as revolutionary as the reviews suggest I’ll be very happy to have them.
Thanks Stu!
Manuel Alberto Delgado
Thanjs for this great opportunity
The Wiha 7 piece insulated tool set would be a great set since I worked around or with electricity almost daily. Sometimes I have to work with the component or wire energized. Having an insulated tool makes my job safer.
Thanks guys
Larry Johnston
Thank you for doing a give away. I am so glad i ran across your site. There are many tools that i could have used, and never even knew they were out there.
i would love to win a pair of Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench – Plastic Grip. but also looking on your site i seen the wrench extender, the threadmate, ratcheting adjustable wrenches, and bosch laser measures. So many specialized tool i didnt even know about. thank you for website and reviews.
Mike D
I pick the Knipex 09-08-240 High Leverage Lineman New England Heads-1,000V Insulated. I work on trains.
SteveR
Stuart–I read your follow-up post about the Knipex pliers wrench, and thought I’d toss my hat in the ring for one. I’d like to be the winner of a #86-05-150 model (the 6-inch multi-grip handle), as this is a great wrench. I have the 10-inch version, which comes in handy, but the smaller version can be useful in tight areas. They come up more often than we remember when we buy tools. I suspect it’s the “bigger hammer” mentality that keeps us buying the larger versions of hand and power tools.
It has all the widely-discussed capabilities, but one thing I noticed in using mine is how rigid the lower (movable) jaw becomes when you grip the handles. That jaw becomes locked in by the rounded nib that is at the forward end of the upper handle; it just won’t move, and that means a lot when you’re tightening or loosening a nut or bolt. That doesn’t happen with an adjustable (Crescent) wrench; there’s always a bit of slop in them, but not with the Knipex.
I was initially impressed by the smooth jaws; you can grip chrome fixtures and not scar or otherwise damage them. I have several pairs of standard (toothed) pliers, but only use them on things like baling wire or corroded fasteners.
Oh, and here’s my haiku:
The DIYer approached his task with trepidation.
He placed his wrench on the stuck fastener and removed it, fixing his garbage disposal.
The DIYer succeeded in his task where others had failed.
Anyway, that’s my selection. Many thanks to you and KC Tools for making the giveaway possible; I know all the readers appreciate it.
RAFAEL
Some Knipex 71-31-200 8″ Cobolt Compact Bolt Cutters Recessed Blade – Plastic Grip, would be nice. I have been wanting some cutters that would cut through screws, small bolts, nails or thick wire. discount price puts it at under 75 so hopefully that counts if not a surprise me would be nice. I have heard of KC tools though Tool guys but have never worked with them so it would be nice to try them .

I would like to have the Gedore 8248-160 JC Combination pliers , angled, 160 mm. I suffer from a disabled left arm and broken back, and anything to help me be able to work on things brings a great deal of joy. I purchased the Husky pistol grip pliers last year and look for a reason to use them, even though they are a tad bit too long. They allow me to grip things a lot easier. The Gedore pliers would be a great addition and another reason to get back to the shop.
Tim
The 1 pound Gedore ball pein hammer would fit nicely in my toolbox

KNIPEX 86 05 150 Pliers Wrench Comfort Grip pls!
Joel Spangler
So close to just buying a few things like a folding rule with the slide insert, the awl with the nice big round handle and a bunch of 49mm (is that round 2 inch?) bits that hopefully wouldn’t wear out as quickly as the junk the local stores sell. I’d also be interested to play with the Pliers Wrench – I”m thinking that would be way better than the adjustable wrenches I always seem to wind up using because I can’t find the size wrench that I actually need.
James Heisey
I absolutely HATE adjustable wrenches, but the Knipex pliers wrench looks intriguing. I’m prepared to have my mind changed.
Surprise me!
James Meriweather
I am currently planning a trip across country on foot. I will travel the American Discovery trail and start in Connecticut and end in California. I have training for this trip for 6 months, and I anticipate a start date of February 2016. I have been trying to assemble a kit of tools that I believe could have multiple uses and high durability. Those Knipex plier wrenches look very handy, and I would like to get my hands on a pair for the trip. If not the Knipex plier wrenches, then maybe another tool that you think could be even more useful for my journey 🙂 I have already secured a nice multi-tool, but that’s as far as I’ve gone so far. Thanks for the consideration!
RD
I’d put the 12″ or larger Knipex Pliers Wrench to work right away. You know – even the small ones have a place I can think of. I actually broke a cheap plier once – bet these outlast me.
Aaron
I’d love to win a 367/6 Kraftform Plus Torx HF Screwdriver Set + Rack, it’d get me one step closer to a complete set of Wera drivers. Plus I need torx drivers to put the roof rack on my car. Thanks!
Ross
Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench – Plastic Grip
I have a lot of adjustable wrenches, but none are as fast or as capable as the Knipex pliers wrenches. I have some smaller sizes, and find those very useful for plumbing and hydraulic systems. A larger 10″ one would allow me to use them in more places on bigger hydraulic components!
Alex F.
Stuart & KC Tool: What an awesome oppurtunity! I am very new to Tool Guyd (past month or so), and have loved seeing all of your reviews! Plus you do these cool giveaways and promotions!
I am currently a college student studying mechanical engineering, and I am trying to build my tool collection, and have yet to pick up a set of quality precision screwdrivers. Although I mostly work on mountain bikes and cars, little itty bitty screws always seem to pop up, and I always have to “rob” my dad’s tool box to use his… (getting old now that I’m almost 22!).
If given the wink, I’d love to have a set of the “Wiha 26193 8 Piece PicoFinish Precision Slotted and Phillips Screwdriver Pouch Set” as that would always let me be prepared (and let me stay out of my father’s box). Plus, I have never owned anything Wiha brand, and have only read thrilling reviews; wether now or later, I am really excited to give the brand a try!
Thanks!
Jerry
Wow, another tool giveaway? This is great! If I were a lucky winner, I would choose a pair of CoBolt pliers from Knipex. Not sure on the exact model number, but the ones I was eyeing were the flush cut ones, with the angled handles, so the user wouldn’t skin knuckles when cutting something flush with a flat surface.
Dennis
Hello, I could really use this to replace some old worn out tools. Being an hvac tech I use just about every tool in my bag every day!

Knipex 86-05-150 6″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip

I could use a set of hex drivers, mine keep breaking. Or a surprise. Either way, I win.

You sir are a Tool Wizard, I look forward to your emails daily and a high percentage of the tools I own are because of those emails. Based on that I’d Love to see what you have planned for a surprise. I work in the cable industry which requires compact, reliable tools often in tight or difficult work spaces. I use my pliers very often but at 10″ they can be difficult to maneuver with. This has lead to me removing them from the tool belt and leaving them behind on more than one occasion. (Never leave a tool behind. I ALWAYS GO BACK) I’ve dreamed of a plier/wrench combo. This is a tool that would round off my collection beautifully.

Ken
Thank you so much for your generous offer! Your site has been so helpful in my tool selections and so hard on my wallet! I am just finally getting around to buying higher quality tools. Bought Knipex Alligators last week and was very impressed, especially compared to my deWalt and Irwin versions. I really want to try the Pliers Wrench, but they’re out of my budget. I was going to choose the 5″ mini to try EDCing with my Leatherman Wave, but the 7″ with the padded handle ( Knipex 86-05-180 7″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip) would probably get way more use.
Thanks for the chance!
Ken

Just got a nitro revo… woohoo!!! Would love a small pair of knipex… not to change subject, but did i see a different kind of cordless impact driver by ridgid many moons ago?

Fein Hard MultiMaster Carrying Case – FMM w/ insert. As I’m starting to build my collection of tools I forgo storage for more tools. So my tools are all over the place.
Geoffrey Redding
I’ve use the 10 inch Knipex plied wrench at work now. I would love the six inch mini plier wrench. That would be a great tool working line maintenance on planes. Good job on the reviews and remember there’s a bunch of us out there that like the 1/4 ratchets and sockets.
AMJ
I’m an avid DIYer, but that means most of my stuff is lower grade craftsman. Since I started reading the your blog a couple months back I’m starting to get tool envy for some higher end stuff. Pliers Wrench? I’d never imagined such a tool existed. I’ll take it, or anything else that will not bend or break. Other great option would be a great pear of needle nose pliers.
Thanks for keeping us informed and taken care of.
Norm
Yes!
YEs!
YES!
I want the Knipex Pliers Wrench. I Have the 10″, thankfully work bought it, but I don’t think they’d pony up for the smaller one so fast. I use it as a secondary to my ratcheting wrenches so I don’t mar nuts or bolts like other types of pliers can do.
What else I found them good for is a great wire terminal crimper. Squeezing that last bit, puts and excellent amount of force on them and doesn’t distort them like other crimpers I’ve used (in fact I hate most wire crimpers, and since I work at a shop, if at all possible I’ll pre-crimp on a vice).
While the 10″ is good. I think the 7″ would be ideal as I work with conduit fittings in the 1/2″ to 3/4″ range (trade size) and they fit in with-in the 1-3/8″ jaw opening. Plus when I do go bigger, I still have my 10″ pair.
Beyond that, I generally work with smaller nuts at bolts…. #10’s, #8’s, smaller metrics. Having a one-all wrench is a time saver.
This will pass, but I just got done with carpel tunnel surgery on one hand, other is due in a few weeks. (Screw driving, drilling, wrenching, wire stripping/crimping, plus computer work, on top of that at home, video games…. my hands take a beating!). While I’ve lost some hand strength (which will return), it’d be just easier to handle a smaller set of pliers.
Norm
To clarify, I’m requesting for the 7″ (86-03-180).
Thank You
Dave rod
Haven’t used the Knipex brand before. But the quality looks to be good. If I don’t win it, I’ll just buy the crimping plier I need. Tired of cheap crimpers flexing and not making a clean crimp on 12v wires I run for trailers and boat wiring.

Ever since I read your review of the Wiha magic ring ball end hex keys, I’ve wanted them. But wouldn’t buy them since my “upgrade” level is from the hex keys you get free with furniture that you put together (only partly joking) to Tekton ball head ones. I love the long hex keys and the ball heads usually work well. But I’d love the Wihas more and it would be great to have something so high quality. Too bad they don’t come color coded, too. http://www.kctoolco.com/wiha-ergostar-magicring-ball-end-hex-key-22-piece-p/66992.htm
So here’s a haiku to go with my entry.
Wiha magic ring:
Does a Hobbit come with it?
That is, if I win.

Pliers wrench, you pick which one(s) (non cushion grip)
I’ve heard such great things about them but it’s hard to pull the trigger without using one due to the price,
Josh Ross
I would really love to win the “Ox Head OX 370-2250 Drawing knife 225mm”. I teach forestry managment and some wood working in wisconsin at an at risk boys home. We have a limited budget for non essential tools, but this would be a great addition. We have some cedar poles that this would be great for. Thanks for the consideration.
Daniel
So many choices…though as a DIY homeowner, I would get the most from Wiha 32982 3 Piece Insulated Pliers/Cutters/Voltage Detector Set + Wiha 30903 7″ Combo Pliers – Industrial SoftGrip.
This way I don’t inadvertently kill myself working on the aluminum wiring around my house.
Jason
I would like the Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench. It’s been one of those tools on my “to buy list” but I never seem to justify spending the money on them when there are other things that I need. I think this would be a tool I would use often and with Knipex quality I know I wouldn’t be disappointed. I’d probably even look for things to try them out on that don’t even need fixing. I can’t be the only one that does that, looking for things to try a new tool out on!
tarbellb
Lots of great tools in there!

I have a few knippex tools. It’s nice to just fly over the other tools in my “Pliers” drawer and go for the Knippex knowing there won’t be any drama using a tool, they just “get the job done”.
I had not seen the Pliers Wrench though, it looks very interesting.
I’d like to try the Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench
Thanx for this opportunity!

I am ordering two knipex 10 inch wrench pliers today.one for me and one for my buddy who showed them to me last night.he came over to help me build an upper and lower cabinet to match my existing. Since my woodworking skills are novice at best he saved my bacon( happy wife = happy life).I also hate my crescent wrenches but I have to have them in my electricians bag.I love having better tools than my boss.he will grumble about paying me too much and say “how did you hear about those?”my response as always” it’s called the internet old man”. He finally got a smartphone last month and he is excited about the calculator and flashlight.Kidding aside, he is the best electrician in phoenix and a great boss who has taught me a lot.If I win I will give them to him, after I have rubbed his nose in mine. phoenix attics are beautiful this time of year, you can cook your lunch while you wok!
Tait
I just know I belong with Tait. But he never buys me.
Sure, he picks me up and looks at me, but then he buys another pair of Knipex plier-wrenches, and then 2, not just one, but two of those Knipex hard wire cutters.
After the tool roll, and the Wera screwdriver set, I thought “great, maybe NOW he’ll get me.” But, nope, he hasn’t bought anything since then.
And, worse, when he does look at tools, he looks at that flashy digital tape measure, and then at the drills. What does he need another drill for?
And then, to top it off, AND THEN, he stopped at the Dremel display. For a long time. What’s the matter with him?
Maybe it’s not him. Maybe it’s me. Will we ever be together?
Gustavo
My tools are a hodge podge collection that I have accumulated over the years, and often oddly specific. Really what I would loved to have is a matched set of pliers or a matched set of screwdrivers. I have many an opportunity to handle wiha and wera tools in my workplace and have long admired their quality and craftsmanship. It would be pretty cool to own some.

Man, the pliers wrench is a great idea. I have some knipex Cobras that I love but have been wanting something more bolt friendly. I’d love the medium or large size!
Also, I’ve never seen you mention it, but Sears carries a 2 pack of Cobras rebranded craftsman for about $35-40 instead of about $30 or more each.
James Terrell
I would love to have a pair Knipex 86-03-180 7″ Pliers Wrench. I have a couple of pairs of the cobras. These would be a great addition to the tool box.
Jason
I already have a Pliers wrench and love (though I wish I had more)
for this contest my first choice would be
Knipex 00-31-20-V01 2 Piece Cobra Pliers Set
My second choice would be
Knipex 71-01-200 8″ Cobolt Compact Bolt Cutters – Plastic Grip
Both tools I have been intrigued by for a long time but have never worked up the courage to spend the money to buy them
Stewart Pribe
I’m going to need a lot of time going through that site to see what I would want.
Geoff
The Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench sound like just the ticket. The nickel coating means you don’t need to worry about corrosion while the smooth face jaws might make this capable of working on plumbing fixtures that most jawed pliers might mar.
Thanks for the heads up on these!
Tom
For years, I’ve been using the usual Channellocks or more recently Irwin adjustable pliers because, well, they work reasonably well, and are , ahem, reasonably priced. One of their common attributes is that they “beat up” whatever you’re trying to hang on to. The smooth jaws of the Knipex pliers wrench appeal to me, but the price has always been the deal breaker. If I did get a Knipex, I would want the 7″ size – not too big, not too little, just right!
Ibiza L.
I would like the surprise me option or some kind of a kit that would have all the tools that I need to fix things around the house. I am a mom and would love to win some quality tools that would help me fix things around the house. Some pliers, a screwdriver set, snipers would really help me fix things as they need to be fixed. I went through the site and realized that this has more choices in tools then I’ve ever seen. I would love to win the Knipex pliers or something like the Knipex 4PC Automotive Pliers Set, or something similar, that I saw on the site. Thank you.

It is difficult to choose what I would want. I work as a handyman, and try to keep my tool kits as efficient as possible to reduce the bulk and weight that I carry around in people’s houses. The 10″ Knipex pliers wrench with the plastic grips look like they would be great for my uses, but I am also interested in the “surprise me” package. Either way I would really like to win some new tools. Thanks for another opportunity to win, Stuart.

I’d love to be chosen to receive a knipex mini pliers!! That would be an awesome fathers day gift seeing how my wife just gave birth to another bouncing baby boy 12 days ago. Now that I have two boys, I need to start growing my tool collection so that I can pass down quality, well used and much loved tools to them. Thank you for the consideration!

Back then when I bought the house 2 decades ago and renovated it with just a big AllTrade box tools as birthday gift, I used countless cheap tools brands such as Mastercraft, ToolTech. Home Depot was not even existed in Canada, and retail stores here only carry those low quality, low price. Through out the years, for myself and helping out relatives, I slowly build up a portable rectangular bucket with only carefully selected tools earning their places. They are mixed of ChannelLock, Estwing, Milwaukee, Makita, Olfa, Picquic and even 1 Woodpeckers ruler 🙂
Thanks to ToolGuyd finding about 2 years ago, I discovered european tools but can’t find local store to try out before buying except some such as ChannelLock WideAzz made in Spain. Knipex will be crème de la crème addition to my usefull box. I also intend to upgrade some to Wera.

This comes out to a few dollars over $75, but I’ll gladly just take the first:
The 5″ Knipex pliers wrench with plastic grip. I have small hands, and it’s hard for me to find tools that are comfortable for me to use. For example a fairly standard 8″ set of pliers can fatigue my hands pretty quick and something hefty like Stanley linesman pliers are practically unusable for me. Sometimes using larger tools is unavoidable, but it’s great to have a high-quality set of smaller pliers that I can try first.
Wiha 45811 Long Nose Pliers ESD Safe Proturn. I’ve started working on turntables and that sometimes involves manipulating components and wires as small as 33 gauge (such as the wires you might find in the tonearm). This is tricky work, and I’ve had my eye on these pliers as a way to help me hold tiny components in place.
mwm
Wera Joker Combination Wrench set to have a nice set of wrenches to replace my Ace Hardware brand. I worked with some Austrian’s who had these tools and I would always find a reason to work with them.

I got a job about 2 years ago in a secondary machine building & fabrication shop as a machine builders helper. I love it! I can see myself sticking with the trade for good. So I started building my tool collection, & I’ve enjoyed that part to!! I discovered toolguyd & I visit the sight everyday now. When it came around to buying hand tools, I fell in love with the german made stuff!!! That’s when I found kc tools. Shortly after all that, here we are, ya both are working together lol. I’d love to win this contest to add another quality piece to my growing collection. If I do get lucky, I think I’d go with the Wiha 54094 (8pc) or 54097 (10pc no stand) SoftGrip Ball End Hex SAE Dual Drive T-handle Stand Set. They would make my life easier that’s for sure…..

Surprise me. Surprise me with a nice gift or surprise me with what will go wrong with the house next. What surprise will come first? If $1 for each problem is equal to $1 in prizes then send the prize truck to the house……….
It started late last year when I purchased a 1972 ‘well kept good starter’ home from an older couple in a nice treelined neighborhood with a park. My intentions were to do a light touch up and move my mother in as my sis and I brought her back from VA after her husband passed suddenly, her health hit a bump and she needed to be with family and a place to call her own.
Well, while my intentions were good, the house had unfortunate suprises in store. Right after closing i headed over to the castle with the bag of keys i was given only to discover not a single key opens two locks in unison so i can enter the home. Enter the power drill…Im in!!
Day 1 after closing, the house decided to show its true colors by dumping water from a backup into the basement. The result was a backed up sewer line, a flooded basement and now a yard that looks like a war zone. Day 5 the house struck again. After readying myself in the masterbath before some shuteye after a hard days work, i realized water on the floor and then in the basement again. Lack of caulking, bad toilet seal, and an old bath fixture were helping throw water everywhere. Day 15, while running laundry to wash off the construction stains of the repairs, the house struck again. Water backed up through every drain and toilet and shower in the house and once again poured into the basement like Niagra Falls. After digging up the backyard and replacing 40ft of tree root lined pipe, I was ready for a break but none would be had. Day 30, while tearing the basement down to bare concrete walls and floors due to all of the water, she struck again. Behind the 1970s panneling she was hiding loose wires, botched electrical upgrades, and a discovery that basement power was being supplied from 1 upstairs outlet. No wonder the circut breakers blow all the time. Day 45 the house strikes again. The first good rains come and is that water i hear again? Well of course, the gutters in the front of the house havent been cleaned since it was built. Now water is flowing over them slamming on the ground like a Hawaiian wave on Waikiki beach. While engaged in a quick repair, i realize there is no drip edge and no felt paper extending to the roofs edge. Could this be the case everywhere? Of course it is!!!! Time to fix gutters, the roof edge will have to wait. Day 60 shes back at it; a pipe burts in the basement. Day 75 her vengence is not complete. In 30 degree weather, the basketball goal falls off the garage roof just missing my car whilst ripping 6 holes in the roof. So i climb on the roof and start triage with roof caulk, aluminum flashing and 50 lb bags of asphalt used as weights to make sure a good adhesion is made. Day 90 hvac compressor goes out. Day 100 she tries to freeze me out. I cant light a fire as the chimney sweeps camera shows a missing chimney lining. Day 120 she still hasnt given up; its raining inside. Adjuster says roof leaks arent covered because the nails that have popped through the roof werent from mother nature herself. I guess im glad the 4 lowes 5 gallon buckets werent being used at the time. I needed them to catch rainwater pouring in through the living room and bedroom ceilings. An indoor water feature…cool! Now spring came and went and she still kept fighting showing me some new moves. The wood shed out back was so infested with wood bees that unknown to me, they put my neighbor in immediate care last year and this year chased her down the street. Well, now its summer and i put mother in an apt in the interim. My list has now grown exponentially, and i know my house is waiting to strike again. Currently, the 4 ash trees infested with the ash beetle have to come down, the windows that are all painted shut have to be opened, the basement floor and walls have to be finished, im praying for a hail storm so i can get a roof. I owe my friends beer and dinner for letting me continuosly do my wash and bathe at their homes and i hope the city doesnt condem my house. The roof edges from the winter battle need to be fixed as the steel wool placed by the previous homeowners to keep varmin out needs to be pulled out of all the holes around the roof line. The yard needs to be graded and seeded due to the new pipes being installed, the gutters have to be sloped correctly, the ceiling needs to be patched and the water logged insulation in the attic needs to be replaced. The garage needs mending and all those ‘previous owner updates’ are turning out to reveal problems.. I can honestly say, that there is not a room insde and outside of the house that does not need repair. I sleep there but i do not ‘live’ there. The demon house has been throwing everything at me and yet i have only given you a glimpse. If i win those tools, I can only say that i will be ready the next time she wants to dance. Like a knight heading to battle with a new sword, i shall wield my new tools and wave them defiantly in her face. I will have a renewed vigor while maintaining my will to forge ahead. I shall be victorious. Surprise me.
Boris
My personal pick would be Knipex 97 51 10 Crimping Pliers. I have a cheap no-name crimper which doesn’t really crimp. Sometimes the plug get’s stuck in it and I have to use small flat screwdriver to get it out. Its blades couldn’t cut cat5e cable since the day one.
Imagine doing it all while balancing on a ladder 12′ in air. I need a touch of fine german engineering in my life.

Man, I’m a sucker for pliers. It must be getting on my wife’s nerves by now. Twin Force pliers are tempting, but a tad over budget, so I’m going to go with the mini pliers wrench. Knipex 86-03-125

I would love to win the 10 inch Knipex pliers wrench.
I work as a technician in a particle accelerator lab. Basically, most of the equipment is either made on site or is low manufacturing volume stuff bought for an extreme price. It is really, really common to encounter broken equipment that was simply never built to be serviced by a human being.
Every tool I have has to serve many purposes and also fit into awkward spots. I carry a tool bag, so I can’t just buy one of everything and haul it around. The sheer adjustable awesomeness of the pliers wrench, combined with the crazy fasteners I see every day, sounds like a dream come true for my tool collection!
Thank you for hosting this contest and for teaching me about this incredible new tool. Even if I don’t win, I will be buying a pliers wrench in the name of science and atom smashing.
brian
wow, what a way to kill time, so much stuff on the site, hard to decide, so I decided that I would choose what I would probably use most.
my pick your prize would be:
Wiha 74996 35 Piece Bit Ratchet Compact Storage Box Set
http://www.kctoolco.com/wiha-bit-ratchet-go-box-set-35-piece-p/74996.htm
I do most of the work on my car and bikes and it seems like it could have every bit I would need for most applications that I would use them for. I do have a 1/4inch craftsman socket wrench that I would use in tight quarters, but sometimes the play makes it almost impossible to use, the 72 teeth would greatly help. I also have a offset craftsman bit driver for bits, but always have the problem of the directional switch always switching when I have it positioned in a tight quarters which always is a pain to get back in position. the portability and the selection of bits in one package would make a great addition to my toolbox.

Knipex is wery well made tools. Very reliable, you can always trust. Huge time saver and really I enjoy to do things with them. Comfortable grip, very comfortable to work. Recommended to profi and home owners!
In some period of time I was thinking of two items under 75$ limit which is
Knipex 86-03-250 10″ Pliers Wrench – Plastic Grip
also really want to have
Knipex 12-62-180 Automatic Wire Insulation Stripper – AWG 24-10
Wish you myself a good luck!
Roger
Wera Kraftform Micro-Set/12 SB 1 Screwdriver set for electronic applications
I’ve been working on a multitude of electronic audio components including speakers, receivers, amplifiers, and turntables lately. I would love to have a nice pair of precision screwdrivers (rather than the cheap ones I’m currently suffering with).
Please help my audio dreams come alive,
Roger

I would like to win the Knipex 5″ Pliers Wrench (with the regular grip). I appreciate small tools, and use them almost daily with various projects and repairs. I believe these would be a great addition to my collection.
MT_Noob
It is almost impossible to pick just one item, there are so many things I “need”, and many many more that I “want”. Recently I have needed a decent set of cutters that can cut piano wire. This Knipex model looks just like the ticket. Knipex 71-31-200 8″ Cobolt Compact Bolt Cutters… Although on the other hand, feel free to just surprise me! Maybe there is a a tool you want to review but not have to keep, I am sure I’d be happy with any of their offerings.
D
If Im picked to win, you can suprise me. I have to supply all my tools at work, and have alot of money tied up in them. I bought a house and have been slowly buying everything again so i have a great set at home too. When I have to, i take tools back and forth from work to home, which is hard. I would love a chance at any quality tools, my wife would love the price:)

I can’t do haiku. How about a limerick?
There once was a dentist with an amazing tool
Most people thought it was cool
Until one day he chose to be uncouth
And used his tool to pull the wrong tooth
And from then on everyone said, “stay away from that fool!”
If I win surprise me.

I like to ride the Tennesee mountain trails on my ATV to get away from the daily grind. A good set of angle pliers, could really come in handy while out on the trail and a nice tool pouch to store a few extra tools would really come in handy too. Heck since never win anything I would be happy with a KC bottle opener to errrrr…..open up my cold beverages while back at the “MANLAND” camp!!
Steven
As an Electrician I would have to pick the Knipex 7″ Pliers Wrench with MultiGrip handles. The uses would be endless, especially when doing trim out work. I wonder how well the Knipex pliers parallel jaw action would work when removing and re-crimping chain links when hanging chandeliers?
Levi
As an amateur about to dive head-first into rebuilding 2 Chevy 305’s, a 327, and a 350, I’d have to go with measurement tools like a dial caliper and feeler gauge! Though I have to admit, my most trustworthy never-fail tool has been what I call “god pliers”, 10-inch groove joint pliers, though they seem to go by cobra/wrench/box pliers on the website… I have used mine in place of a hammer, sockets, and tin snips with great success!
Even if I don’t win, I’d recommend a pair be part of the “surprise me” option!!

Grandma needs a toilet tank replaced . The 10 inch Knipex would go along way in helping complete the project.Remember Grandma Rules the roost and the project has to be done efficiently .If I do a Good job Grandma will bake me a blackberry pie.Soo Good.

My fiancé is a huge Knipex fan, I always buy a Knipex tool for him once a year on his birthday. It is his first year as a plumbing apprentice and I know he would be able to utilize the Knipex 00-11-06-V01 Universal Key “Construction” for all standard cabinets and shut-off systems. Our fourth anniversary is coming up this summer and it would be so fantastic to be able to get another tool for him this year.
Thank you for your consideration! 🙂

This limerick I wrote thoroughly sums up my feelings about this giveaway.
There once was a young AC tech
Who had only a too-small paycheck.
But with all this great stuff,
Saving money is tough.
Being broke is a pain in the neck!
The man eyed a sweet German wrench
But his wife said, ” Don’t buy more tools, mensch!”
So he’d hope and he’d pray
He could get it some day
Maybe once he gets rid of that wench*
She was the love of his life
But his tool-buying caused them much strife.
This tool giveaway!
This is the way!
To get that wrench and please my wife.
* apologies to my wife. It’s hard to find things to rhyme with wrench.
This is the wrench I am talking about:
http://www.kctoolco.com/gedore-152-12-high-speed-pipe-wrench-12-p/gr6419520.htm
I’m a young HVAC tech just getting started in the trade, and I would use it every day, particularly for gas pipe. Now, I have to borrow tools from my coworkers, which is inconvenient, but I just can’t afford to buy a good wrench. This would help me immensely.

I would love to get my uncle the Wiha 75965 65 Piece MicroBit Ratchet Set. He is always working on his rigs and everyone elses, including mine. He’s a great uncle and deserves a good Ratchet Set! Thanks for the chance 🙂
Jakob
I would be cool with anything. I am trying to grow my collection, but you know college has me money tight!

Without getting too wordy again, I’ll refer you to my email and your post about comparing Craftsman and Gearwrench sockets. I just want a decent set of sockets and ratchet.
Your posts about the Wera Zyklop series have always stuck out. If I had to choose I’d choose the 3/8″ Metal Zyklop Ratchet. The one with the reversible switch should fit pretty much any of my needs.
I appreciate the opportunity to jump start my new box with a higher quality tool than I’m used to!
Joe
The knipex pliers wrench would be the ultimate tool for my bicycle touring, it would fit every nut and bolt on my bike in 1 tool, and of course be so versatile around my shop and garage. I’ve gotta get one but winning one here would be awesome.
JamesOuzts
I would use a Knipex 86-05-250 10″ Pliers Wrench to do something a guarente no one else will. I will bend chicken feathers, leaves, flower petals, and tiger tails with them. I make sculptures out of stainless steel. Everything from small trees that sit on a shelf to a 12 foot globe. I work for an artist that does a lot of work in schools. He will spend a few days with a class helping them design a piece often having them even do some of the cutting and grinding. Then we assemble and shape the parts and he takes the finished sculpture back to the school. We also produce small pieces that people seam to love as gifts and awards. We often use various adjustable wrenches to give us the leverage to bend elements and create more depth and details. The first time I saw one of those plied wrenches I thought that it might be perfect for our applications but they are a bit pricey. A career in art is rewarding but not always lucrative so new tool (toys) are usually something you only buy when you have to replace something or know exactly what you need or your buddy at the pawn shop gives you a call to say he just got a welder in.
To sum it up. Give me a wrench and I’ll make something cool with it. Thanks.
Eric
First and foremost I would like to thank Stuart and KC Tool for making this giveaway possible.
I would like a “Knipex 86-05-250 10″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip”. I am going to need it to do DIY work as I just moved into a house from an apartment. The only tools I have right now are old, rusty, low-quality ones that are badly in need of replacement. I thought this tool would be a good choice for me because it is two tools in one: I will be able to use it as both an adjustable wrench and a set of tongue-and-groove pliers.
Here is my haiku:
Hot metal glows red
Forges hammer day and night
Brand new tools for all
Oh, and surprise me please!
Steve
7″ pliers wrench would be awesome. I keep coming across recommendations for these, but could never pony up the cash to try them out. This giveaway seems like a great opportunity!
rick carpenter
I’d like to win either the Knipex 6″ 86-03-150 or 7″ 86-03-180 Pliers Wrench for small OD steel/copper pipe plumbing. The 5″ would be too small for me I think. I have a 10″ Pliers Wrench and really like it but it’s too big in certain situations. Thanks.
David R
So many things to choose from…
It would have to be a pliers wrench for me. I could use some good impact drivers and a few Wiha (or Wera) screwdrivers. But that pliers wrench. Surprise would be fine too. It’s all good stuff.
I’ve struggled with Phillips screws my entire life and really just tended to avoid them when I could. It took me until pretty recently to realize that my screwdrivers are junk. One Wiha was all it took. This site, GJ, and a few others have been very educational. Thanks for that.

I know I could put the Knipex 20 01 200 flat nose pliers to work. Just this morning I was trying to remove staples from a board with a needle nose and I thought, “A flat nose pliers would really work well here.”
BorisL
I reallly would like to win a surprise me package, I have cheaper tools that I’ve bought over the years. I do have some craftsman tools but nothing compares to the European design and quality of tools like Knipex. The flat nose look good and so do the Wera tools are also high quality. I will be happy if I win.
Tom
I won things before from you, so I totally don’t deserve it, but I would go for the magic ring hex keys from Wiha:
http://www.kctoolco.com/wiha-ergostar-magicring-ball-end-hex-key-22-piece-p/66992.htm
They just look really clever and cool. Perhaps you could give them to someone who wins wanting a surprise!

I have borrowed a coworkers cobra style pliers and loved them. If I were to win these , he might be the one wanting to borrow mine next time.

Knipex 2001200 duckbill style pliers would be great to compare to my Channelock duckbill pliers. Some Knipex electrician pliers to go with the duckbills would be nice also.

I would like to try the Knipex 87-41-250 10″ Raptor Pliers. I saw a video a few days ago and they look really cool. I would ask for the Pliers Wrench but I have 2 of them already.
Seth
I was seriously considering ordering a Wiha 54097 ball-end hex t-handle set for work, but I’d much rather win them in a giveaway instead! I’m currently using a set of regular L keys, but I think the t-handles will speed things up and the ball ends can’t hurt.
Mike Burns
I would be purchasing the Knipex automatic wire strippers. These would be perfect for the project I’m about to begin on my dirt bike. I’m making it street legal and need to run a bunch of wiring to put lights/blinkers on the bike. Right now I only have a very old set of strippers from my dad’s tool box, which I’m sure are older than I am!! http://www.kctoolco.com/knipex-automatic-insulation-stripper-awg-24-10-p/1262180.htm

I would love to have a set of Wiha security bits, the 71992 list price comes in at just under $75. I am studying electrical engineering so having the tools to get into all sorts of electronic gadgets comes in handy.

Thanks to Stuart and KC Tool for organizing this giveaway.
I have no idea what I would want as a DIYer who also uses hand tools at work from time to time but a surprise of free high quality tools would make an awesome birthday present (6/26).
David
I’d love to be able to try the 5in pliers you reviewed today. I have a physical disability and as a result moved into a new home this year. I have been finding that I can better control smaller tools, and am starting to complement my old tools with tools that work better for me now.
Thanks for a well done, frequently updated site. I enjoy visiting every day!

Oh, to feel the fine craftsmanship and precision of the knipex pliers wrench. Surprise me with the size.

either way, I would be happy to foot the difference in cost.

If chosen as a winner in the free tool give away, I would pick either one, or both, of the Knipex tools, the plier wrench/Cobra pliers.
I have used these tools at work for many years, and find them indispensible tools to have and use. I find myself continually reaching for one or the other, depending on the circumstances, and would love to have a set of my own for personal use.
Thank you.

I would like to win a Knipex 86-05-250 10″ Pliers Wrench – MultiGrip.
I want this wrench because it very versatile and could actually replace much of my toolbox, which would save time and space while working. The cushion grips would also make work easier on my hands. I have been working with regular tools all my life and I am excited to try out Knipex tools since I have heard many good things about them.

My favorite tool is my everyday tool at work, the Wiha slotted screwdriver with a 4,5 mm blade x 125 mm long. With that, a Fluke T+ Pro and a little bit of problem solving, I can do my job each day. Since I was used to the Klein 3/16 cabinet tip, I bought multiple screwdrivers since I planned on replacing the Wiha after six months. Surprisingly (to me at least) I am still using the original screwdriver almost two years later. I like it so much I gave three of them to my fellow shift guys to use also. From speaking with them, they are impressed with Wiha also.

I want the Knipex 87-21-250 10″ Cobra QuickSet Water Pump Pliers.
I can win? Yes, why not? I like KC Tool. Before I bought on Amazon, now I will buy in KC Tool.
Mahalo
Hi Stuart, just wondering if KC has indicated when it will ship out prizes. I tried e-mailing you but hadn’t heard back and wondered if your spam filter was picking my emails off. Thanks!
Stuart
Sorry! Now that I have everyone’s info I sent it all to KC Tool. Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to want to send all winner info at once (sorry), but in the past I’ve found that one by one gets even messier.
Mahalo
Oh, no problem! I just wanted to make sure that the info I had sent went through. 🙂
Eric
So I take this to mean that the winners have already been notified?
Stuart
Yea, sorry. They should have all received their tool prizes too. There will be more giveaways though, so there’s time to find a new good luck charm.
