Over at Amazon, they’re running a one-day deal on select styles of Kershaw Blur assisted-opening folding pocket knives.
This is one of the most highly regarded folding pocket knives at the ~$50 price point, and it’s made in the USA. I’m a big Kershaw fan, and it’s rare for me to find anything about their knives to complain about.

Update: This post was originally published on 11/17/2018, and republished on 11/17/2018 when the deal returned. Thank you Jeff for the tip! Additional styles are on sale this time around!
Note: The deal has expired. Here are some other recommended pocket knives to consider:

Specs include a 3.4″ blade length, 4.5″ closed length, 3.9 oz weight, and reversible pocket clip. Kershaw’s SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism allows for quick opening with a push of the thumb stud.
This is an assisted-opener, not an automatic knife, and so it shouldn’t be a problem. Still, always be aware of your local knife laws if you carry a knife for work or recreation.
I should also warn you. If this will be your first “real” pocket knife, the taste of quality might leave you wanting more. My Kershaw Leek knife (reviewed here) was a gateway knife for me, despite my owning several folding pocket knives (mainly Gerber) before.

These days, I prefer 3″ blade length knives, flipper knives, and manual openers. But if I had a $50 or less budget, and wanted the biggest bang for the buck, this would be my pick.
I couldn’t pass up the deal, and ordered one (plain edge blade, black handle) as a shop knife (and for eventual ToolGuyd review).

I have a blur. In sv90. Good knife. Only drawback is the lock up on them isnt the best .

Live in MA and Amazon is saying cannot ship to your address? Does it have to do with knife laws?
Stuart
Possibly – you might want to contact Amazon customer service to see what they say.
I know that some vendors won’t ship knives to NY because of problems with inaccurate classifications in the past. Rather than deal with all kinds of trouble, they simply don’t ship to certain states or cities, but usually it’ll say so.
A Home Depot FastBack knife listing, for example, says: We’re unable to ship this item to: AK GU HI PR VI
Their listing on an assisted opener says: We’re unable to ship this item to: AK GU HI NY PR VI
And on a different assisted opener, it says: We’re unable to ship this item to: AK GU HI PR VI
But that’s Home Depot. I didn’t see anything similar on the Kershaw Blur page on Amazon, which is why I advise you to check with Amazon customer service. It could be a glitch, or they might have an explanation for you.

Just following up on this, not sure if you read the old comments or not but Amazon claims that since the knife is sharp they need special handling and can’t get special handling to my location. Which is bizzare because I’m 5 miles from Boston.

I’ve bought 2 Kershaw Blurs from Amazon in the past and I live in MA.

Extremely tempted to order the model with s30v steel, great price comparatively to elsewhere and it’s supposedly one of the best steels. I’m sure I’ll end up picking it up if it doesn’t sell out soon.
Stuart
Oh, so that’s why that one is $55. I assumed maybe that one just wasn’t included in the sale, but looking closer, I see that $55 is the sale price.
Adam g
Yeah its significantly more elsewhere.

So, This post sent me on a rabbit trail that ended in me ordering a spyderco paramilitary 2 in cpm s110v steel. Can’t wait to get it in hand.
Stuart
Enjoy!
I bought a Paramilitary 3 recently, and plan to review it after the new year.
The Paramilitary 2 is immensely popular, but I tend to favor smaller-bladed knives.

Yep…. just picked up two!

See that assisted bit keeps me from having any interest in Kershaws. Kept me from the Dividend and will keep me from this.

I own several kershaw knives, the 1935 model is the best to date. Ordering this one as well. Yet my heart lies with the 1935 model
