Over at Amazon, they think it’s time for you to get a new pocket knife. And it should be a Kershaw. To help convince you to make the step, they’ve kicked off their $10 off $50+ discount promo.

Add $50 or more in Kershaw knives that are sold directly from Amazon, and the $10 discount will automatically apply to your order at checkout.

I own a couple of Kershaw knives, and have tried one or two additional models. In a nutshell, most Kerhsaw pocket knives are very well made, they’re functional, they look good, and they’re inexpensive without being cheap.

Kershaw makes a couple of knives in the USA, others are imported. I can’t really pick a favorite, but I can tell you that I really like a their Ken Onion-designed knives.

The Leek, which I reviewed back in 2012, is a fantastic model, and was my gateway knife. I owned a couple of multi-tools and Gerber knives before buying my first Leek in 2009, and it was Leek’s the elegance and uncompromised quality that convinced me to get into knives.

If your idea of a pocket knife is whichever folding utility knife you can buy on sale, then it’s time you stepped up to something better. Since most Kershaw knives are under $50, maybe buy one for yourself, one for a buddy, family member, or well-liked in-law.

If you’re looking for ideas, I think the original Kershaw Knockout might be a nice self-gifting treat. Too bad the olive version isn’t in-stock or eligible for the deal. Kershaw’s Blur knives are usually well recommended.

One thing to point out is that many, if not most, Kershaw folding knives have SpeedSafe spring-assisted opening mechanisms. They’re not automatic knives, but they’re also not completely manual folders. It’s always good to check your local laws before adding a pocket knife to your EDC (everyday carry) tool kit.

Are you a Kershaw knife fan? Which models would you recommend?

Kershaw’s Scallion (non-serrated) and Leak are my EDC choices, I can’t see paying over $100 for something that will be lost or broken within 5 years.
