Klein Coaxial Cutter VDV600-096

Klein has come out with new coaxial cable cutters, model VDV600-096. The new pliers have two cutting zones – a notched area that’s perfectly sized for cutting coaxial cables, and a shears section that’s ideal for cutting individual wires, twisted wire pairs, and spread bundles of wires.

The notched cable-cutting section is specially designed so that it doesn’t squash or deform cable ends, making it easier to terminate cable assemblies with connectors.

Although designed specifically for coax cable work, you can also use these cutters for other common cable and wire cutting applications as well, as long as the cables are around the same size or smaller. The straight shear-style blade section is great for cutting thin signal and network cable wires.

Klein Coaxial Cable Cutter and Small Wires

Klein says the notched blade section can withstand steel cable cutting, but they are specifically referring to copper-clad steel coax cables and wiring. You won’t want to use these on heavier duty materials, such as steel piano wire.

The pliers are made in the USA and are priced at around $26.

Klein sent over a sample pair of these new coax cutters, and while I haven’t put them to much use yet, they seem to be nicely designed. The handles have a high-leverage pivot, and the cutter blades are very sharp. Because the shear blade section is so sharp, the pliers do a great job cleanly trimming thinner wires. I don’t think I’ve seen cleaner cuts

Looks like an alternative to the 2 other Klein Coax Shears (#63028 and #63030)
