Klein Tools Holiday 2016 Electrician’s Tool Set is a FANTASTIC Deal

Home Depot is offering a new Klein Tools electrical tool bundle for the 2016 Black Friday and holiday shopping season.

Okay, so what’s with the shouting in the title? When I came across the display, which can only be found at 1 of the 3 nearest Home Depot locations, I thought it was an okay deal.

It still seemed post-worthy, since a couple of readers have been asking about whether there was a promo Klein tool set for this year.

And then, when I started outlining the post and pricing out the components, I was surprised at how great of a deal this really is.

Buy Soon(via Home Depot)

The special Klein tool assortment isn’t available online yet, and I only found it at one nearby Home Depot location so far. Maybe it’ll be more available later this month.

klein-tools-j2000-9ne-journeyman-side-cutting-pliers

The set seems to be centered around the new multi-size nut driver, but I think the lineman’s style side-cutting pliers are the star.

These J2000-9NE 9-inch Klein Journeyman pliers are said to have a high leverage and heavy duty design. They definitely look to have upgraded grips compared to my more basic Klein side cutters.

These side cutting pliers retail for $41 and change! That’s what surprised me about this deal – that it includes $41 cutters plus 2 tools for $50.

klein-tools-11054-wire-stripper

Next up is the 11054 wire strippers, which can strip solid wire from 8 to 16 AWG, and stranded wire from 10 to 18 AWG.

It also features machine screw cutters, small gripping jaws, and wire cutter. The handles are curved in a typical “Klein Kurve” fashion.

This wire stripper retails for $18 via Amazon, and is around the same price elsewhere.

It wouldn’t be my first choice of wire stripper, but that’s mostly because I need sizes outside of typical residential and construction needs. As you can see in my wire strippers and combo electrical tools post, I’ve got 2 complementary strippers that together cover wire sizes 10 to 30 AWG solid and 12 to 32 AWG stranded.

I also recently bought Klein Romex-style wire stripper (I paid $24, it’s currently $22 via Amazon), and have been pleased with it.

Klein switched suppliers for some or all of their Klein Kurve wire strippers, from using an OEM to now manufacturing them in-house, and I can’t see any downsides.

While I wouldn’t buy this set for just the wire strippers, I’d find a use for them.

Compare(via Amazon)

klein-tools-32801-5-in-1-multi-nut-driver

You also get Klein’s new 32801 5-in-1 multi-nut driver. This new driver is kind of like a multi-bit screwdriver, but with swappable nut driver bits.

It’s priced at around $22.

Compare(via Amazon)

This is what the display looks like. I didn’t find it in the holiday tool deals section, it was setup at the rear of a random aisle, possibly for temporary placement or storage.

So for $50, you get 3 usable tools that would separately retail for a little over $80.

The way I see it, this is a great deal for anyone that can use at least 2 of the 3 tools. If you just want the side cutting pliers, then you get the 2 other tools for less than $10 extra.

The pliers and wire stripper are made in the USA, the nut driver is not.

I need a new pair of linemans.

This is pretty fantastic. Good look.

I bought a similar Greenlee set a few years ago. The screwdriver isn’t as versatile as this Klein, but it came with a belt holster/sheath. It was a steal compared to the individual items if bought separately.

Is this the kit? It’s a little cheaper ($43.06) but the nut driver has a different number, 32557 rather than 32801.

Not quite. The one you linked to has cheaper plain-handle cutters and a multi-bit screwdriver.

Honestly, unless you like the Journeyman grips (I don’t) or really need a 9/16″ nut driver, that looks like a better deal.

I think the nut driver is kinda pointless. The other drivers do 1/4 in., 5/16 in., and 3/8 nuts and also phillips/slotted, and the 11-n-1 also does square (very helpful for electrical) and T10/15 (I’d prefer something else like ECX). They all seem a lot more versatile while doing all the common nut driver tasks for electrical work.

I’d pay a few bucks more, or better yet the same price, for it to include the 11-n-1.

Yeah, at least their new 6-in-1 nut driver adds 7/16″, which is a size Id use more than 3/16″. Heck I probably use a 11/32″ nut driver more than a 3/16″. Who is coming up with these new products? 11/32″ has been completely overlooked in all their new nut drivers.

The more I look at this set, the less of a deal it is.

Booo! This deal may be good fiscally but it isn’t very useful. Last year’s deal was perfect for outfitting a helper. Now I’m twice as mad that I missed it.

I do not like the thick gripped linesman’s or the nut driver tool…

If they come out with a set with the D-2000 dipped grip linesman’s, curve strippers, and a third tool that I would actually use…

OK, this is weird: at the Home Depot in Vernon Hills last night, this set had a yellow tag with a date of 10/20 and was marked down to $38! I picked one up, and there were two left that I could see.

I saw the same thing last weekend at a local Home Depot. There was just one set available and I was puzzled as to the discounted yellow tag price on it. But I honestly don’t remember if it was the exact same set as the one you have pictured.

Didn’t seem to be, and it rang up for $38 at the self-checkout.

Just grabbed the last one from my local store, marked down to $38 and the display was gone I had to dig for it near where they display all the klein tools. My feeling is this deal is gone when they’re sold since they have the 7 piece deal just coming out.

Jeff if you still have your receipt take it back and get an even better deal. The 3pc set with the nut driver is now $25.04 and soon it will go down one more time before it pennies out. I know this because I work at Home Depot doing pricing. Last year I bought the Klien 5pc set and it eventually priced down from 49.99 to 38 to 25.04 and finally to 13.02. The trick is to get it before it marks down to a penny which at that point they wont give you the difference.

Got the last one today at $25.04 plus the 10 % military discount. Outstanding! Thinking of getting the 7 piece set for $50 too. I may try to wait to see if it’s discounted more after Thanksgiving, but I’m afraid they’ll be sold out.

I bought 2 of these last week. I’m no pro but the price was too good. I needed one of the pliers and wire cutters. When do you think these will drop to $13.02?

The three piece set marked down to $13.02 on December 2. You probably wont find anymore but if you take your receipt back they’ll give you the difference.

so my wife ordered a set of these off the internet as part of my christmas. i opened it on christmas day to find a non-journeyman set of lineman’s pliers, and a multibit screwdriver instead of the nut driver. They had the right strippers, as far as i can tell, but everything was individually packaged. So i’m guessing they ran out of the special packaging version and still had orders to fill, but I feel a little ripped off that they sent me the non-journeyman pliers and a bit driver instead of the nut driver…that was the entire point of asking for the set was the nicer lineman’s and the nut driver. i really didn’t need yet another wire stripper…

I didn’t have the heart to tell my wife, because apparently I am a struggle to buy for at the holidays; so I opened them and dutifully put them in my toolbox.
