Klein Tools ModBox Folding Workbench Deal at Lowes

The Klein Tools ModBox folding workbench looks a lot like my favorite portable work table, but might be even better.

It features slots and dog holes to accommodate clamps for holding down workpieces, and a quick one-handle setup process.

The Klein workbench collapses into a compact package (4.5″ folded height) for easy storage.

The bench has a load capacity of 1,000 pounds, which sounds like plenty.

Klein also built a ModBox accessory rail into the side, which can accommodate a selection of hooks, bins, and other accessories (all sold separately) that could be convenient to keep close at hand.

At the time of this posting, Lowe’s is offering free delivery.

Price: $99 (ends Jan 7)

Buy it at Lowe’s
Buy it at Amazon
Buy it at Ohio Power Tool
Buy it at Acme Tools

According to my post from the start of the year (see Klein Tools also Launched a Folding Workbench), this launched at $120. Other retailers have it at $130 right now. Lowe’s has it on sale for $99 and says this reflects $30 savings. That sounds about right.

Seems like a great buy, what do you think?

It looks a LOT like the DeWalt folding workbench (which I assume is your alluded to favorite). I’m not clear on what you are referring to as the mod box accessory rail unless it’s 2 small strips on either side of the handle? Or is it the handle itself?

Do you have any information to compare pros and cons between this and the DeWalt version?

I have been happy with my dewalt but it’s currently $125 at Home Depot. Normally I think the holiday sales would bring it down to $99, but not sure about this year with tariffs (not trying to be political at all). If this Klein version has the same or better capabilities, it might be worth a look as a (possibly) cheaper alternative???

There are short ModBox accessory rails adjacent to the handles, and if you look closely at the other product images there’s a longer one on the other short side of the workbench,

I haven’t tested it and am unlikely to be able to form a solid hands-on opinion very quickly due to the timing.

I checked on the Dewalt at Home Depot and also saw that it’s $119. I don’t know if it’ll go on sale this year.

The two look comparable. I’m a fan of the Dewalt. I’d shop purely on price. The Klein has been around for long enough that I think the user reviews would reflect major problems.

This Klein shows about 2″ lower than the DeWalt specs. I just looked on HD site and the DW is listed at $89.99. I have a DW and at times wished I had a second one for various projects. The Klein seemed very solid in store

I have the identical Dewalt one and love it. I doubt it’ll ever be $99 again so I’m tempted with this one. But I don’t really *need* it… decisions, decisions…

Recently purchased 2 more Dewalt’s at Ace Hardware (of all places) w/ coupon for $99 ea. Love ’em especially the quick open/close. The key difference looks to be the Klein has those little bars on either side of the handle, but not the opposite side, to hang some – not all – of their MODBox accessories. Appears the cup holder and multi-hook MODBox’s could fit, but no other accessories – could be wrong about that. Also, I wonder if they’d be annoying if left attached when storing the table (catching on things, falling off, breaking, etc.).

There is a long ModBox rail on the opposite side. It fits up to two regular sized rail attachments.

So there are rails running the widths, but not the lengths, of the table.

Also, as far as breaking off… I know at least the hooks are very durable. They detach wau before the possibility of breaking. Haven’t had the opportunity to see if the other attachments fare as well

    I still miss the X horses …

If I had known they’d be discontinued, I would have bought several more.

The X horses had many iterations, the original aluminum leg versions were so much more rigid than the plastic leg versions. And also much lighter than the steel leg versions.

But yeah – they are pretty much the ideal worksite table/horse.

I buy them at estate sales or FB MP wherever I see them… have at least four currently; two I use daily

Nice product! It looks a bit unpolished, i feel like they could’ve shaped the top black plastic component a bit better to reflect the modbox aesthetic, would still purchase but wish they came in Klein orange!

        Good point!
I forgot about the plastic leg version, which may have been the cheapened version.
        My pair has aluminum legs.

I love mine. Yes it is exactly like the DeWalt but with ModBox rails, but I find it very handy.

On the two shorty rails, you can fit the hook, cupholder, or any of the belt pouches/drill holster. I leave two hooks on there all the time, since I never store it with that end down.

On the long rail, you can fit 2 regular size rail attachments, like the tool carrier or case adapter. Would probably also be a great spot for a small ladder with those new cart attachment ladder hooks.

You can also put things on the rail itself if they have hooks… Like a drill that has a belt hook, or a caulk gun with a curved push rod end.

I recently bought some awesome detachable locking casters for it from Weihe Designs…. They come on and off easy and stow with magnets when it’s folded up. (I wonder if these casters would also work with the DeWalt?).

All that makes for a great mini/mobile workstation cart for me. At $99 I think it’s a great value

I had to look up “x horse”, and that does look stout. And the table in the above story looks good too. There are lots of options. And from brands that are more specialized than a person would maybe first think of.
Although expensive, Kreg’s table, recently caught my eye. The T track looks handy. Not sure it justifies the higher price though.
I wouldn’t mind if someone put together a folding work table roundup article together. Just the basics maybe. Work surface area, weight of product and weight holding capability, price, etc etc.

Ok, to be fair to my own comment, I just now clicked on “workstands” at the very bottom of the article beside “sections:”. And it is already a pretty good roundup. The review of Kreg’s workstand has me even more intrigued now though. I might even have to keep an eye out for a holiday sale.

I purchased one last week and it was at $89 in my nearby Lowe’s.

WARNING TO VETERANS — Lowe’s WILL NOT honor the 10% Veteran’s Discount on any items already discounted. Home Depot will.

Thus you won’t be able to piggy-back an extra savings (Home Depot will allow you to piggy-back).

I bought one at Lowe’s for $99 and about $20 more for a small tool carrier attachment to hold my stains. The attachment is about 3/4 of an inch too tall so any work piece will butt into it so I’m going to have to belt sand down that part of it but it’s a nice setup and easy to stand up without having to lift it.

On Amazon com the DeWALT DWST11556 is $89.99 right now. It’s “Temporarily out of stock” but seems to be orderable at this price.
