Knife Rights Contests NYC DA’s Claims & Tactics

As expected, Knight Rights released a statement in response to the mass seizure of folding knives from retail stores by the NYC DA’s office.

Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter said: “the outrageous claims made by [District Attorney] Vance to rationalize his shakedown of honest knife retailers during his press conference were all deliberate misrepresentations or half-truths, if not outright lies. If the general media in attendance wasn’t so unfortunately uninformed of the issues and the law, as well as the technical aspects of folding knives, he might have had a more difficult time getting them to swallow the unmitigated fabrications he was dishing out.”

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. As Knife Rights points out, the vast majority of violent knife crimes are committed with kitchen knives or simple old fashioned folding knives. Knife Rights also goes on to suggest that the DA’s claims and agenda seem to be politically motivated, an allegation we agree with.

We’re all for getting illegal knives off the streets, but folding knives and assisted opening knives are LEGAL. All knives are dangerous, but so are pencils, hot coffee, household cleaners, cars, sports, frying pans, banana peels, matches, medicines, and text messaging.
